Oberlin College: The Left's Nirvana Realized

Wow. What an excellent indictment of "liberal" views of society.

Oberlin College, stuck in the October 1917 mindset.
Stalin would be proud.

It appears this monument to Lib-Left idealism is also a monument to Lib-left idealism's major component - hypocrisy.

They praise free speech by silencing differing opinion, they denounce violence with violence, and they celebrate freedom with the tyranny of politically correct authoritarianism. All this self-destructive hypocrisy they are oblivious to because they have convinced themselves they are right and all differing ideals are wrong - much like fundamentalist theocrats.

Oberlin is hardly alone, but it is probably the leader among small liberal arts schools in its backward-facing "progressivism". Were it not for its music program, it may well have gone the way of Antioch College (and Goddard and Bennington and good colleges hijacked by the "New Left" in the 1960s.

Liberal Progressivism is a religion consisting of varied sects from passive believers to fanatical cults.

Their various denominations range from environmental fanaticism, to gay rights, abortion, socialism/ communism what have you, either individually or in combinations.

They compete with Christianity as a religion and use the “Liberal Progressive” political weaponry to tear down the status quo; regardless of the harm it does them personally, because their goal is to replace current western civilization with their own.

When you can get your head around the "moony" cult mindset of the left, you see he seriousness they pose to us all.

Oddly enough, I believe Michelle Malkin is an Oberlin graduate.

Sounds like hell to me.

That was an outstanding commentary.

extrapolating the "women only" building vs the male fraternity at bit wider... i can't get over how much people hate middle aged white guys but if we try to form a club just for ourselves (say ...to play golf) everybody else seems to want in. They can't hate us that much can they?

Higher Education at it's best.

Fortunately for us not them. They won't be able to get any jobs where they will wield power.
Jobs will be to hard to come by for political Marxists. The future will need real workers not ideologues. Tenured Professors are the only ones to profit from this sludge of phony schooling

I get all Chris Matthews like when I watch Bill Whittle.

Is Oberlin really so differnt than the rest ? Name me the equivalent college for the right ! Can't think of one? Neither can I.

I don't know how many Oberlin graduates would have problems making their way in the world - it is an expensive place, and their daddies should be able to smooth their passages into life.

Also, Oberlin gets good students.

Conservative colleges? Well, there are a whack of religious colleges, that are not known for liberalism. And then there is St. John's College, with two campuses (Annapolis and Santa Fe NM). I don't know whether it is conservative or liberal, but with its strong emphasis on classical studies and Great Books, it is hard to see how it could be liberal. They even teach classical three-dimensional geometry, which is hard! They sponsored an edition of Appolonius of Perga's work on conic sections for their own use!

And then, of course, there is Hillsdale College, a favorite of Mark Steyn (Victor Davis Hanson also has an association). To quote Wikipedia, "Hillsdale College has long been considered a major player in the history and development of American conservatism, a reputation that became most noticeable during the 1970s and continues to the present. Most of the curriculum is based on and centered around the teachings of the Western heritage as a product of both the Greco-Roman culture and the Judeo-Christian religion."
