Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Senior Service? It is a term traditionally applied to the Royal Navy because they are arguably the senior of Britain's armed services. The U.S. Navy has certainly been around longer than the U.S. Air Force, but I wonder if they could or would make the same claim compared to the U.S. Army?
Per Ardua Ad Astra, eh
I'm with you, Texas Canuck!
By the way, I note with great interest and pride that the "Sic Itur Ad Astra" nonsense is out and "Per Ardua Ad Astra" has been returned to its proper place.
place
The Tooner is quite correct about the Royal Navy and its place as the senior service was inherited by the RCN. That is why the proper reference to the Forces in precedent is 'Navy, Army and Air Force'.
BCer I just checked the official RCAF site and 'Sice Itur Ad AStra' is still identified as the motto. Have you seen the change elsewhere?
By the way, I think that it was a natural way of thinking for Lance to think of the USN as the senior service for the USA. All of their armed forces were established in the 18th century and so they at least have, next to Britain, seniority in the world of armed forces...including the US Marine Corps.
Anyway, all this is best discussed over Brandy in the Ward Room, eh?
Oops! Sorry. Correction: Of course the US Air Force grew from the US Army Air Force following WW 2. Kind of like our Air Force growing out of the RFC.
I don't know why I know this, and had to google it to confirm I was right, but the US Naval Academy motto is: Ex scientia tridens. Translates to: From knowledge, seapower.
ND trounces Miami.
United States Navy 13 October 1775
United States Army 14 June 1775
Unfortunately, as a Navy guy myself, we have to concede this one to the Army.
I was at that game, and unequivocally, Navy did not "win." As a Zoomie it pains me to point out that we lost that game due to three fumbles and two missed field goals. The after game phone call from my USNA grad brother was not fun, but he conceded my point.
