I've been wondering why the administration bothered to spin the Benghazi raid. The explanation that they wanted to portray organized terrorism as being on the wane isn't terribly convincing. It's a poor reason for not being honest about a matter of vital public interest, and I don't think the Obama administration is that dumb (could be wrong).

That they were trying to cover up ineptitude is more plausible, although I can't see how claiming the raid was carried out by rioters helps Obama. If anything, such a lie draws unwanted attention to the affair.

Perhaps part of the problem is that MSM has been so docile when it comes to holding the Obama administration to account that the administration thought it could get away with it.

Not just embassy and CIA staff died in this affair. So did Obama's chances of reelection.

A mercy killing, really.

The reality must take into account two basic facts: Obama's pathological psychological nature and the fact that Islamic terrorism exists, is increasing, and will probably take about 50 years to dissipate.

The second reality of the ongoing and increasing existence of Islamic terrorism, is something that Obama denies. He is totally ignorant of the causes of Islamic terrorism. He is dumb enough to think that it's due to anger at 'American imperialism', an ideology bred into him by his upbringing by his mother and grandparents and by his anti-American wife.

He totally and utterly rejected the reality of the terrorist attack on Benghazi. It disturbed His narrative about Himself.

He refused to authorize force, because that would acknowledge that an attack was actually ongoing. Then, he went to bed. Unfortunately, when he got up the next day, the reality still existed. He went to Vegas to receive the accolades of cheering crowds. Obama needs these cheers; they make him feel powerful.

And, he began the narrative; that the Benghazi attack was due to Imperial USA, ie, to the bad Americans. With a video. When the facts began to emerge that showed this was untrue, Obama sent Rice out, he sent Hillary out, he went on the late night fun shows..to deny such a reality and insisted that he didn't know the real causes. Untrue.

The fact that four people died, is immaterial to Obama. His pathology is such that he is unable to feel empathy for anyone.

I think that much of the media and many commenters in the US simply are unaware of the depth of Obama's pathology; they keep trying to find explanations for why he refused to authorize assistance to the consulate under attack, why he denies it was a terrorist attack, why he has essentially run from the situation. They try to blame others - Hillary and the State Dept, the Pentagon, even those dead themselves.

Boulton was too politically correct to use the brush of truth with a deliberate stroke.

Remember Carter's botched raid - that sunk him. Remember the Bin Laden raid was successful, but they did lose one helicopter. I believe that the Administration was assured that the MSM would cover for them -- they were told by the "500" that it would be okay.

But then, Mitt Romney had his Boris Yeltsin moment (channeling the former Russian president climbing up on the tank in front of the Russian White House and calling, "B*******! to the coup that unseated Gorbachev). How else, in retrospect, can the "500"'s outrageous criticism of Romney be explained?

BTW, Mitt's "Boris Yeltsin moment" on Benghazi, IMO, is when the preference cascade began to happen -- and it's only going to get worse for Obama from here.

And, further, how else can Mr. Obama's goofy and know-nothing lecturing of Mitt on "horses and bayonets" be explained (with the laughing from the "500" -- their true Joe Biden moment), other than a bald-faced attempt to put the genie back in the bottle?

And why did Romney choose to play the third debate the way he did? Because he knew all of this would come out (and, although not Mulroney in 1984, he knew he had done enough to catch Obama in a lie in the second debate), and that he was already past the sale and only needed to make everybody feel good about what they had already agreed to.

All we need now is for Mitt to run around the country and say, "The devil made me do it!", like Mulroney did in 1984.

Apparently, the Seals and others at the CIA annex had a laser sight on the mortar team that in the end killed Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. They were in constant radio contact and they were told to "Stand Down" at least THREE times.

Further, according to the report a Delta Force team was on standby at the Signelle AFB in Italy. ONE HOUR by flight, when the entire incident lasted some SEVEN HOURS.

Also they called for air support: drone and/or AC130 the Spectre gunship. Drone was always overhead on the scene. Spec Ops always have the call for air support via AC130.

With obama's lack of a moral compass and his dead fish hand shake with Tyrone's father I truly believe obama never considers "the risk", he lives in a make believe world as you posit. It would have never crossed his mind, the guy's lulu, as Bolton delicately said. Anything to remain in "control". He's that dangerous. There is no plausible reason why the Seals were ask to stand down other than to benefit the one's election success in concert with that gun running thingy.....always feeding the base.

I'm appalled that *any* president could be so callous. What really bothers me however, is that anyone would assist him in trying to cover this up. I don't consider Obama an American (regardless of where he was born), but millions of real Americans are willing to look the other way, accept bald faced lies as truth, and even cast another vote for this piece of garbage so that they can continue receiving their handouts. That is what is truly frightening. The lives of American heroes are thrown away and a large part of the public and press could care less.

ET, of course it was an attack organized by al Qaeda. It was to stop arms smuggling by the US to Syria, presumably to a group al Qaeda didn't like.

There is not and never has been a Consulate in Benghazi. It's a Mission, meaning it does not have Consular status as US territory. A rescue mission would have constituted an invasion of Libyan territory.

Not a C-130 cargo carrier, a AC-130 gunship.
They have a range of 2500+ miles and it was circling above during the firefight waiting for the permission to vapourise the attackers.
