I have been an alcoholic for nigh on 33 years,and recovering for 15.You do not TREAT alcoholism,you control it,like diabetes(and no,I'm not likening it to a disease). We had a federal liberal candidate here two elections ago, who was famously kicked off a Canadian Airlines flight in Montreal for drunkenness/asinine behaviour, and she turned around and sued the airline for not understanding her fear of flying or some other nonsense.

The judge not only sent her packing, he awarded the airline costs. That doesn't happen nearly often enough.

As a nervous flyer, I have watched my friend embark upon countless flights, lubricated by vodka and ativan just to make it past taxi. Not once did she ever show just how far she was medicated, and trust me, she was medicated. She behaved, she complied and she went to her seat with my help. That got us to a not of tropical vacations we would not have otherwise have enjoyed. Same thing on the return, but she behaved and passed the muster, so I have to say, that if my honey could do it, so could the honorable worshipper of Saint Jack Layton.

The "residntial schools" is the default position for all and any problems the Natives have, whether or not they even ever saw one. Truth is, though things weren't perfect, few of them would be alive today were it not for these schools and the dedicated people who staffed them. I have yet to see a school picture of these students where they weren't laughing and smiling. Can you imagine what the truancy rate would have been had they lived on reserve?

Yes, the residential schools defence... An all-purpose get-out-jail-free card for aboriginal who may or may not have spent any time in those schools. Perhaps Peter Penashue or his campaign manager can use this excuse.
