“I have actually proposed to the public sector union leadership that this is a long, drawn-out process for a lot of people and we would be perfectly willing to have a dialogue with them if they were to see fit to change some of this to make it a little bit less stressful on people,” said Mr. Clement in an interview this week in Toronto. “So far I haven’t had a lot of co-operation on that but the door is always open.”

As a former member of the public service, I can tell you that PSAC is comprised of the most whacky left wing assholes on the planet. The "layoff stress" is a chimera. The only ones that will be affected will be term employees when their terms expire. The rest will be included in the so-called "workforce adjustment program". They may be required to work at another job or another location nearby but they will never experience a reduction in pay or grade level.
I think they should all be sent to one big room someplace to sit on hard chairs and do nothing for eight hours a day. Same as what they do now, but without the nice padding.
They have their own "distress" hotline?
"The Globe reported last month that a distress line for federal public servants is on track to receive a record number of calls this year, partly due to the stress of the layoff process."
Some of those people in the unionized public service sector may eventually find other work.
Bring your tools, I'll show you where to start. You have tools right... right?

From A to W: Assisted Human Reproductions Canada to Western Economic Diversification Canada...and dozens upon dozens in between.
Here's our federal government dinking around with petty layoffs when useless and wealth-sucking federal departments and agencies in their entirity should be getting the axe.

"They may be required to work"
that requirement would certainly cause stress, as, work is not one of the requirements when collecting a pay cheque form the govt
...and the billion + a year waste called the cbc.
