In 1916, the US army was 100K plus 100K National Guard. Throw in ancillaries, and you come up well short of the 561K+ that is active today.

Military people talk about the number of bayonets to differentiate combat troops from the huge number of support troops that have made up armies for the past 100 years. I doubt Obama meant this because he doesn't know a corpse from a corpsman.

Years back, recollect hearing of a drill instructor advising recruit to disharge a round to dislodge a bayonet if it happened to get stuck in a bone.
