I find that for a lot of Romney "Gaffes" so far... they sound more like the (unwelcome to some ears) truth.

The media considers them gaffes because, because he is a viable candidate they HAVE to report it, and they HATE HATE HATE it. They'd much prefer to memory hole the whole incident and "report" on the the swill from the white house pressers without editorial criticism.

That the media called Romney's sensible and tame comments on Libya a gaffe is surreal.

LAS, I also have concerns with support for the rebels and feel it's unwise to try to pick sides as this stage; except - Iran is involved (hint: is likely rearming the Assad government, which yes is a corrupt, disgusting regime). I just feel we can't do any good right now so let's stay out and let the Russians and Iranians have their p***ers out on this one.

Overall in keeping with US energy self-sufficiency, NA should chuck the ME entirely, save quick reaction delta/kill forces in case someone tries some AQ type BS/operation. The US should turn to a willing and able energy partner, Canada and tell Europe/China/Russia to deal with ME Islamist a**holes. (BTW Obama's not for that preferring his usual deer in the headlight approach to problems) After a while those a**holes will forget us turn their attention to the new great Satans Russia and China, who will have no choice but to deter nuclear weapon deployment along with NA.

Sorry for being OT - anyway I understand the true issue is the Sec or State was directly involved in the security issues at Libya and determined everything was fine. Let's not fog this thing up with by whom/when the SST was recalled, it's only a part of the overall security/protection plans.

If Clinton/her staff dropped the ball, we get a redux of the Nairobi attack (yes smaller scale/intensity) where again the Sec of State begged off the file. IOW if true, Mme Clinton is in deep difficulty and the Obama administration right along with her. That's the shoe I'm waiting to see drop.

And Clinton is the 'calm, capable' one in this admin.

LAS, my personal belief is we should arm both parties with everything short of tactical nukes. Let the brawl it out till there's only about 7 people left alive in that $hithole. Syria, is one of those conflicts, where you hope both sides lose.

Most of the rebels are clearly secular but it's still stupid to send arms over. The Arabs and Turks and Israel have it covered much better than America ever will. Romney is a tool.

Obama had locals - Libyans! - guarding the US embassy. Apparently nowhere in his $1 trillion plus deficit budget could Obama find money to deploy Marines, the usual defense of US embassies.

I'm surprised, too, that Stevens' family hasn't said a word in criticism of their son and his "guards" being hung out to dry by Oblahblah.

OTOH, they no doubt are dyed-in-the-wool Dems and it would appear that their son and Obama shared an orientation they probably don't want emphasized. In addition, the Oblamer White House can be extremely nasty when crossed. Perhaps the Stevens just want to mourn in peace and not be harassed by a desperate out-of-control, out-of-his-depth, POTUS.
