About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Didn't somebody else melt in a classic movie?
Sand is a great fit for Obama, unlike that solid "hard as rock" stuff.
This reminds me of Matthew 7:24-29
OMG the ego that knows no limits! Can you imagine any other President who would have permitted such nonsense?!?
Talk about an Emperor with No Clothes!!!
What could possibly go wrong? Well, we are back to the famous or infamous example of the sandpile.
That's a situation, outlined by the physicist Per Bak in his book 'How Nature Works' where a reasonably stable structure, let's say a sandpile or a sand sculpture, will catastrophically collapse. It will suddenly lose its stable structure in an avalanche, a collapse of structural organization and a resultant chaos. The cause? It can be a seeming trivial event.
That's because the infrastructure of that sandpile or sculpture only functions within a limited and tightly controlled set of interactions. You'll notice how Obama and the Democrats limit criticism, limit opposition (as Clint said, No, I won't shut up).
Notice how the Obama gang define any who criticize or any who oppose as heretics, as amoral, as felons and murderers. That's to prevent 'more sand' or other bits of reality from touching the utopian imagery of that sandpile.
But when reality, whether it be a few extra grains of sand or a bit of rain arrives on the scene, the infrastructure is not strong enough in itself (no policies, no record of achievement, no plan for the future)...to withstand reality (debt, jobs, unemployment). It will collapse.
Make My Day.
To paraphrase Socrates (not a daytime 'story' as my grandmother used to call it) "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the end of his days". Let's at least hope so.
That the DNC would allow such a thing to be built is very disturbing. However, it does kind of look like Al Jolson.
A sculpture in the long tradition of "Dear Leaders" all over the world. Larger than life with a condescending gaze and a menacing smile. Whose brain cramp was it to make it out of sand?
Brian M - nice metaphor.
What the GOP and grassroots should do, as Clint Eastwood's doddering old man character did, is speak the truth. Speak out.
Say that 'We make the decisions and the government is our servant'. Say that 'you, Obama, haven't done the job and it's time to move on'. Put that empty chair out on the front lawn.
The Democrats are doing all they can to prevent grassroot voices and talking; they are trying to make you afraid to criticize or even say one word not merely against but about The Dear Leader.
We need more Newsweek covers, more pictures of an Obama with a teleprompter as his head; we need more Clint Eastwood speaking out that the chair is empty.
We need more bits of sand, those small stones of reality, from the GOP. We need facts about their plans and policies and their agenda.
Shoulda made it with kitty litter.
Improved sculpture here.
Matt, nice touch with the teleprompter.
Looks more like Treyvon Martin.
Add skittles and juice.
It's a metaphor for his presidency- brittle and meaningless.
(static) Charlotte....the EGO has landed (or is that sanded)...(static)
If I lived near that eyesore I would pay kids to toss water balloons at it. Would be fun to know that the TOTUS would have his ego bruised by that. Would be interesting to see what his Tweet would say about his effigy being destroyed.
DNC Giving away free tickets to the Bank of America coliseum Obama promised to fill.

Feet of clay, upper body apparently of sand. Head of Styrofoam?
I'm pretty sure that when those guys are finished the right hand will be holding a little red book.
Creepy illusions of Obamao.
The teeth look like he is wearing a mouth-guard.
Could it be that he is prepared to take a whole lot of shots to the mouth, face and head during this last part leading up to the election?
Funny how art imitates life.
Even funnier is the writing on the Presidential Seal behind him.
If read literally by what is seen, it would read "Resident of the United St."
Resident would then indicate that he may or may not be a Legal citizen, just somebody residing here. Not an owner, not a person who takes pride in that ownership, just an occupier of the said address.
Obama has great white teeth, apparently.
Cheers

"The Visage of the Mighty"
"The Obama sand bust evokes another piece of ill-fated statuary. The Marcos bust in Pugo, La Union on the road up to the spine of the Cordilleras was built in the degenerate phase of the Marcos years, when sycophancy had erased all the remaining vestiges of sound judgment. “The bust was built in the early 1980s when Mr Marcos was still in power, but fell into disrepair after he was overthrown in a popular revolt in 1986.” As the BBC notes, it was finally blown up by persons unknown in the middle of the night in 2002, possibly by treasure hunters who thought it might have contained a clue to the fabled Treasure of Yamashita."

"A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama"
Only damaged. So far.
Is he supposed to look like Kim Jong il's favourite nephew? Is that some sort of lefty code?
"We need facts about their plans and policies and their agenda."
Ill give a fact
I buy goods from China (I live in Canada)its here in 5 days duty free, no tax, free shipping.
I buy goods from America 4 weeks (back order) 5 weeks shipping(thanks to home land insecurity)
Taxes, duty's (on duty free products) outrageous shipping fees, Brokerage fees Handling fees all 2-3 times higher then what I paid for the product, and always revolving. I cant do business with you no mater who you elect. You can never know what they will charge you, its whatever they decide. This did not just happen overnight, this was engineered by both parties.Do you hear any party that wants to do away with homeland insecurity as its killed off business.
A true window into the mind of the liberal Democrat is on full display with this 'monument'. They are starstruck by their political leaders (and others in pop culture for that matter) and see them as smarter than, better than, and above them. The American Idol President indeed.
It really is too bad the rain didn't wash the whole thing away because that is a horrible rendition of Obama. Did they pay for that!
The GOP web site is good
http://www.mittromney.com/issues
The Obama web site is also good, filled with self-praise and if I didn't know better, quite convincing. He blames, as usual, Congress.
http://www.barackobama.com/record/economy
Indeed, I've read that IF Obama wins again, he'll essentially ignore Congress, which might be GOP, and simply act via executive fiat, with appeals to the public and using the media as his soapbox, on everything.
Doesn't that astoundingly ugly statue just make one itch to drink a dozen beer and take a leak on it? Just to see what happens, in interest of science.. lol
At a glance, I can tell if the Republicans had have made that, it would be extremely racist.
The NYT has a 'reasonable' article today on the influence of Valerie Jarrett. I'd say that she and Michelle act as Obama's 'mother' who was like both of them a radical socialist. Obama is intellectually empty on his own and, like a bucket, thinks as his mother-figures tell him.
And the NYT has a vicious article against Romney by Maureen Dowd, with lots of supportive comments. The article is vacuous and empty; essentially defining Romney and the GOP in all the old memes as old, white, rich, oil, ..all the code words used by the left for them!
Again, Romney has to get his points out. Obama will retain about 42%; those are his identity blocs whom he has made dependent on federal funds. It's the 6 to 10% of those in between whom Romney must deal with; are they amenable to facts or desirous of fiction? He's got to give them facts in short, simple form.
"Sand" isn't exactly the medium I had in mind, although it does begin with "s".
MC
What will happen if some rythmic clapping / chanting happens in close proximity to the sandpile
When "Forward" becomes a synonym with "Downward".
Obama fans can relax. Although the sandy upper may collapse, it can easily be rebuilt as it stands upon a solid foundation of clay.
meh - a washout image of a washout POTUS - cryptic
Seen elsewhere: "Mt. Douchemore".
More idol worship. Creepy.
Looks like Al Jolson, nice of the Demmies to do that in his memory!
Yeah,it DOES look like Al Jolson. Al,a very talented man, made his living by pretending to be a Negro, just like Obama.
The difference though,is that Jolson left a positive effect on the Country.
I would hate to compare that hideous sand visage to anyone, alive or dead but to Obama I would ask, "You paid someone to build that?".
The wise may built his house upon the rock....
the foolish man built his house upon the sand...
and the rains come a tumbling down....
Its a song from Sunday School, so I don't expect any Democrats to know it.
One of the compounds that can use to dye sand is "lamp black" aka "carbon black." (No pun intended.)
If the US election plays out anything like the 06 Cdn election, the Dems will be reduced to their core vote.
I see many parallels here with our 06 election, the most striking of which is the villainization of foes with misinformation and Romney's five-point plan.
I grow more (cautiously) optimistic every day. We have an Obama administration which, despite controlling both houses of Congress for two years, despite the recession ending years ago with still record high unemployment, wishes a mandate no longer electorally tethered, which essentially argues Americans have shifted hard left with apparently nearly half the population being racist anachronisms. IMHO, even with their media cheerleaders, the Dems can't sustain this message to election day.
It's quite sad really. The question is are they a spent forces already heading into their convention, much like the Martin LPC 06 Cdn election campaign.
It reminds me of the final scene from Planet of the Apes.
That washed out elbow is gonna raise hell with his golf swing.
They got the ears all wrong....
So why do they have a sand sculpture of Steve Martin anyway?
A very badly done sculpture. I really wouldn't have known it was supposed to be Obama; it looks something like a caricature of the 1980s basketball star Bill Walton. If it is indeed washed away by rain it won't be any great loss.
