I hope he doesn't move next to me. I'd hate to have to go to jail for a couple of governments' stupidity.

If he's viewed a Al-Quaida/Islamist "royalty" here, the risk is that he'll inspire jihadis from that subgroup of Muslims sympathetic to Sharia Law in Canada.

Once he's finally released, will he start doing publicity tours across the country?

The recent protests here were demanding Sharia Law be implemented here regarding blashemy.

They were relatively small and peaceful, but if he were leading the next ones, will they more closely resemble the ones in Europe?

With respect to the return to Canada this morning of Omar Khadr, convicted terrorist and murderer, I expect to see the crown lay charges under the Criminal Code for High Treason.

Sec 46 (1) Every one commits high treason who, in Canada,

(a) kills or attempts to kill Her Majesty, or does her any bodily harm tending to death or destruction, maims or wounds her, or imprisons or restrains her;

(b) levies war against Canada or does any act preparatory thereto; or

(c) assists an enemy at war with Canada, or any armed forces against whom Canadian Forces are engaged in hostilities, whether or not a state of war exists between Canada and the country whose forces they are.

I believe he should easily be found guilty of 1(b) and 1(c).

While I would happily see him rot in Gitmo forever the reality is his sentence has an end date. Better he should be paroled in a couple of years rather than have him serve his entire sentence because if paroled he will have court - enforceable conditions placed upon him.

When looking at the status of Khader, there are a few different ways to look at it.

One way is that under the Geneva convention he is an illegal combatant since he was not wearing a uniform and fighting as part of a recognized national army. He thus has no protection and could have been shot on the battlefield.

You could say that he is an enemy POW, in which case he has committed no crime BUT can legally be detained until the end of hostilities, which will likely be never. At the time of the Spanish Civil War Canada passed a law called the Foreign Enlistment Act. Don't know the exact details but basically it made it a crime to go and fight in someone else's war. As far as I know it is still extant.

You could say he is a Canadian citizen who took up arms against his own country. It doesn't matter that he didn't directly fight Canadians, a strong argument could be made that he has committed treason and should be charged with it.

I am sure that the government could find some way to bank up the traitorous bastard for life if they wanted to.

The only one responsible for Khadr's return is Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

There was absolutely NO reason, NONE WHATSOEVER that forced Harper to accept Khadr's transfer to Canada. This was a crime committed in FOREIGN SOIL against a FOREIGN COUNTRY. Canada had nothing to do with this. Khadr has NO RIGHT to serve his sentence for his FOREIGN CRIMES in Canada. It was always the prerogative of the Canadian government to approve or deny the transfer. Stephen Harper had every right to deny the request from the damned Yanks and say NO to Obama. However Stephen Harper has NO BALLS. He accepted because he almost melted when Obama asked him and we all know Stevie would do anything for the Yanks. And this after being snubbed by Obama on countless opportunities. Stephen Harper has battered woman syndrome.
