My only beef is with these new A-hole senior first time buyer’s who now decide that getting a gun is in their own best interest.

Where have you been for the last 40 years of gun ownership demonization, which way did you vote?

Now a little reality and self preservation from Liberalism kicks in and they decide it’s a big bad dangerous gang and drug infested society full of third world criminals, early releases and a ghetto entitlement culture.

The seniors probably felt safe, but after 8 years of Republican rule totally screwed the economy, and being told that their president is actually a Muslim Communist bent on destroying their country by the rightwing propaganda machine, they're now finally feeling scared enough to arm themselves, however irrational that might be.

Just a reminder. Conservatives always fail, and this is ultimately a good thing. It's why woman can vote. It's why we aren't all serfs. It's why you can't hang a Black man from a tree because you suspect he might have deflowered a White woman. And it's why we now all enjoy the weekend and a 40 hour work week. (Though conservatives are fighting hard to roll that back)

Canada suffers from a 500% higher rate of home invasions than do our American cousins.

Seniors citizens being physically weaker are a prime target for violent criminals.

A significant number of them end up seriously injured, or being beaten or stabbed to death during home invasions.

Smaller, lighter handguns suitable for seniors are prohibited by the Canadian government. The larger handguns must be stored unloaded, double locked and away from ammunition which also must be locked up. They are obsessive about the occupational safety of violent criminals who commit home invasions.

Canadian seniors who winter in U.S. have the protection of a lower rate (1/5th) of home invasions.

Two pieces of good news here.

One, there's no chance of disarming the Americans. The Dems can pass all the laws they want, but that many firearms are not going to disappear. it isn't withing the power of government, no matter how repressive, to collect up that many objects which are so easily hidden.

20 years of purchasing guns at that rate and every man woman and child will have bought one. The gun debate in the US is over. It is essentially over in Canada because no-one can prevent anyone from owning a gun legally or otherwise. The politicians can drive legal gun owners to distraction but they can't stop anyone from buying a smuggled gun.

I'd have to see where the background checks are being done, Knight 99. I'd prefer to think much of this is the English waking up in the United States.

Then again...the nice thing about being a liberal was always that you never had to face the consquences of your own actions. Now? Your typical suburban liberal helped thrust liberals into office in his district, the plan always being to move somewhere more civilized if taxes got too high or feral farm animals started moving in. Now his only asset is a heavily mortgaged house or condo he can't sell for love or money and whose value declines with the neighbourhood every month. He can't even afford to retire, never mind move away. The children he alienated or drove away and robbed of their inheritance aren't likely to be much help, especially when Medicare goes up the spout---asumming he wasn't too busy finding himself to have any.

So no, it would be no surprise if liberal boomers were finally investing in guns, now it's finally impossible to escape the conclusion that they've had their reward.

I will say that there are many uses for the ammo, not limited to any luckless crack or meth heads breaking into the house looking for anything of value to steal and pawn for the price of a hit in the vacant house across the street. It's a fair bet many of those guns are for the boomers themselves. The fool has said in his heart that there is no God. This September 11, the unrepentant liberal who's just figured out he's had his reward and is determined at any cost to escape the consequences of his actions must surely be sorely tempted by the Salvador Allende Ultimate Bailout Plan.

John, go read a book. The housing bubble was caused by the Community Reinvestment Act, passed by a Democrat controlled congress and signed into law by Jimmy bleepin' Carter. The current mess with Social Security has two main legislative causes. First in 1968 that great Republican Lyndon Barnes Johnson wanted to fund his 'great society' welfare state and the war on Vietnam without raising taxes as it was an election year. The solution was to divert the Social Security payments from the 'lockbox' into the general fund and place IOUs in the Social Security piggybank. The second event was surprise, surprise in an election year, 1972 to be exact. The Democrat congress raised the Social Security benefits by 20% without increasing the amount deducted from the paycheques of John and Jane Q Public. Then they hit the campaign trail pointing out their generosity, not mentioning it was other people's money they were giving away.

This is an extremely sensitive, deep, and complex question that many of us face today Al.

I’ve had my heart set on the new Ruger SR1911 to take some shooting pressure off my custom Kimber Gold Combat ll this year (wear & tear). My closest local gun shop is backordered 1 year with 17 customers ahead of me on for the Ruger and won’t take anymore orders. Another dealer has taken my name and says he has “a few” that have also been on order for over a year now, but no promises.

All in all I worry about waiting it out for a possibly rushed, hastily made inferior pistol or breaking down with the latest greatest plastic piece. If even they continue to sit on selves for long................ :(
