About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

It is a little bit of "people in glass houses" of " those without sin" thing. When trying to please the electorate, bribes, be it tax cut, entitlement, or a sawbuck and a pint of whiskey, are all the same. nobody ever votes for the guy telling you to cut back, save instead of spend, or earn it the hard way. Human nature. There in lies the problem with a democracy... and that's about the (arguably)best system we have.
My solution:
1. Amend the constitution to permit more than 2 terms.
2. Bring Bill Clinton back.
Bill Clinton was so awesome that the only thing they could go after was his sex life. (not that he did anything wrong btw).
Reagan kinda sucked.
When Clinton was in power the economy was roaring so it was easy for him to reduce the deficit a bit.
(not that he did anything wrong btw).
Everyone in a position of authority should require sex from their workers? I'm not sure about that Sparky. Is that what they do in the tarpaper paradise east of the Ottawa.
Scar - he's a frog. They think that sort of thing is sophisticated.
That chart is horrifying. I was almost tempted to say "come back Jimmy, all is forgiven" but... no. But truely, the reps aren't much better than the dems and that HAS to change.
1. Reagan was winning the Cold War - which allowed him to start cutting spending toward the end of his term.
2. Clinton could drastically cut defense spending (see #1), and had Gingrich.

"2. Bring Bill Clinton back."
Yeah and that Republican Congress both houses....
or better yet bring back "W" with that Republican Congress...
Yer the guy who liked daisy chains as long as you were on the end that could answer the phone....me too....
While the numbers are adjusted for inflation, during the time period there would have been significant economic growth so it isn't as bad as it looks. As PabloNH points out, I think most of the change relates to the ebb and flow of defence spending except for the last guy. He simply blew it.
So while OBrainy solves all the problems of the Middle East, back home, the children play.

You may now pull the fork out of the USA.
It is officially done.
Frank, it's certainly done under this administration. Of course it has to be about the video. Because if it's a coordinated Al Quaeda attack, then the administration would have a huge amount of explaining to do as to why they were unprepared.
The ragheads have planned this very well indeed. The cover story they floated to justify it is also the one the US government needs to justify its ineffectiveness at any role in preventing it. It's like getting Czechoslovakia to justify the German occupation of Sudetenland.
By direct implication then, everyone feeding the video story is an Al Quaeda dupe.
If you really want to be sickened, take a look at all the updates at Drudge..they KNEW 48hrs before the attack, and did nothing. And yet watching Wolf Blitzed doing Piers Morgan show tonite, you would think it's all Mitt's fault.I am just so disheartened,I feel I can't take anymore.
Shooting wars aren't cheap.
Just a note about Reagan and Clinton.
Reagan, adopting the trickle down economic model, laid the bedrock for Clintons prosperity.
Also, the republicans were in charge of the whole congress.
Clinton had to do what he was told. It is in his favor that he did. He learned to be pragmatic real fast. It kept him in the highest office of the entire planet earth to do those sexcapades that he liked so much, since his spouse was not up to it.
Reagan was one of the best presidents the ‘mericans had.
You may argue about the way he did things, you can’t argue about the results.
The only exception would be if you were Dan Rathernot.
In the middle of a re-read of diLorenzo's Hamilton's Curse I am struck by the titanic battle of ideas between Jefferson and Hamilton whom he deeply despised. Jefferson is the more famous but Hamilton WON -- in spades. We live in Hamilton's BIG GOVERNMENT world.
Looking at the current election campaign, when you get past the personalities, the parties do not represent different ideas at all. It really is tweedledum/tweedledee, coke/pepsi.
That chart makes this crystal clear.
Perhaps I'm rationalizing -- preparing for the grim possibility of a Obama second term -- but at this juncture I really do not think it matters!
A while back I told batb that Romney would not jettison Obamacare; lo and behold, I see he's already intimated that there are parts of it he likes. And there you have it.
I think we can discount the "bring Clinton back" and "Reagan kind of sucked" comments as neither of them make sense.
or better yet bring back "W" with that Republican Congress...
The Chart makes clear W was a terrible president.
I can't believe Kate hasn't mentioned Bernanke's new baby: QE3. We're doomed.
breitbart is here...
formerly known as who is john galt?
Meanwhile, back at the fed.
Federal Reserve launches QE3

Ron Paul is the only one truly acknowledging all this and drastically wanting to change it...But that will never happen now...The big crash and burn is inevitable...

I wonder what we are spending in canada per capita.Oh never mind it is probably just as high.
It is sad how Party Stalwarts still struggle to pretend that there is any real difference between the American political parties. It is all the same Establishment.
The Englishman, Richard North, is correct. There is not longer a 'liberal-conservative' divide, there is now a horizontal division between "Our Betters" and the rest of us. They know what's best and, one way or another, they WILL have their way.
You can make numbers tell you anything you want to hear. Suggesting Clinton was an economic messiah is brutal.
Ronnie Reagan was one of the best USA presidents. He took over a US military that the peanut farmer had decimated. He had to rebuild American military power. In the process he finished the Russians off. He cut taxation which led to an economic revival that Clinton was eventually able to cash in on. Clinton's only ability was being able to steal chickens.
