Roger Simon is encouraging a twitter campaign to put pressure on LA Times to release some tapes of a gathering that Obama attended in Chicago...for a pro palestinian prof.

Maybe new/ok should try out one of those pig swings. It might help take the edge off. Being a jihadi apologist is clearly tough work.

Elizabeth Warren practiced law for over a decade in Massachusetts. Whoops: Scott Brown, her Republican opponent in the US Senate race, pointed out in a TV debate last week that she was never licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.

As a sidenote, there's an additional and quite funny piece of information in the above post at Legal Insurrection about something that happened earlier this year but which seemed to have mostly escaped notice (or my notice, at least): Warren, this "first woman of colour" hired by Harvard law school also proudly averred her groundbreaking status in another realm of achievement/advancement when she told an audience at the Chicago Humanities Festival in 2011,

"I was the first nursing mother to take a bar exam in the state of New Jersey."

Presumably she verified this fact by checking the "Complete and Official Registry of Every Woman Who Was Officially Lactating During the Period of Time When She Was Taking A Bar Exam in the State of New Jersey."

Regardless, what a remarkable woman she is (*cough cough*).

Mmmmm... bacon.... :)

But bacon's not the only thing. That's cured by hanging from a string.

Excerpt from Walter Russell Mead's "Americans Turn on MSM: What Does It Mean?"

If the president were a conservative Republican rather than a liberal Democrat, I have little doubt that much of the legacy press would be focused more on what is wrong with America. There would be more negative reporting about the economy, more criticism of policy failures and many more withering comparisons between promise and performance. The contrast between a rising stock market and poor jobs performance that the press now doesn’t think of blaming on President Obama would be reported as demonstrating a systemic bias in favor of the rich and the powerful if George W. Bush were in the White House. The catastrophic decline in African-American net worth during the last four years would, if we had a Republican president, be presented in the press as illustrating the racial indifference or even the racism of the administration. As it is, it is just an unfortunate reality, not worth much publicity and telling us nothing about the intentions or competence of the people in charge.

The current state of the Middle East would be reported as illustrating the complete collapse of American foreign policy—if Bush were in the White House. The criticism of…

The rest here.

Conservatives want to blow taxpayer money propping up uncompetitive companies 'winners' and in the process get the military inferior equipment. CF-18 redux.

If you're sick of your old computer and need a good excuse to buy a new one, read this (slightly dated by now) article by Liza Featherstone at Al Jazeera English supporting the Chicago teachers' strike and odds are pretty good that you'll put your fist clean through your screen in one pass.

In the following excerpt she goes after the uber-liberal NYT for merely noting in an editorial that teachers strikes "hurt children and families":

Liberals, you know what hurts children? Look in the mirror. Your complicity with a regime of austerity that deprives poor people's kids of everything they need in order to thrive. That's what the teachers are protesting. Not only are they seeking to improve their own dismal labour conditions, they are fighting to save Chicago’s public schools - and kids - from Democratic politicians who seek to destroy them….

Yep, 75 grand a year, two months off in the summer, lots of padded benefits….them's "dismal labour conditions."

Related: Gawker's John Cook argues that the problems -- "declining graduation rates, substandard educations" -- in public schools are best solved by banning private education. He suggests "forcibly transferring ownership of all existing private schools to the school district in which they reside…then access to the newly 'nationalized schools would have to be distributed on some fair basis to local students…"

Thank You Canada

I heard that Canada walked out on Ahmadinejad's spech at the UN today. Thank you for supporting civilization.

Makes me sick when a billionaire prick wants to hold a city hostage. Edmonton thought they had a deal essentially giving Katz a free arena. Now he wants $6 million a year subsidy. It's one of the best hockey markets in the world. The NHL wouldn't allow it ever. There are endless idiots lining up to pay $20,000 or so for a pair of tickets. Good luck in Seattle.

EBD, 11:01p.m. --

I found the WRM article disappointing -- it was more a puff piece about why we shouldn't be too tough on the poor, misunderstood MSM than it was a solid analysis about why informed, reasonable people have turned on it -- which is what I expected from something posted by you (that's not a backhanded criticism or anything).

For me, it comes down to this: I am long past the point in life where I care to waste my time or money listening to or reading usually-repeated-ad-nauseum assertion I know from education and experience to be false, posited by people who have neither the education, the experience nor the communication skills necessary to be capable of providing meaningful insight on their subject(s).

I pointed out the other day that the scatter diagram that Ari Fleischer tweeted and that Kate posted about the US opinion polls is an inference light years beyond the MSM's understanding -- this ain't hard, it's merely applied math of the most basic kind (Grade 10 maybe; actually Etch a Sketch really, which is ironic, isn't it?).

A particular pet peeve of mine is when journalists use terms they clearly do not understand -- I don't mean to be hard on Scott Stinson at Kate's post at 1:44a.m. (he's absolutely on the right track, but his imprecision of language undermines his case and inadvertantly helps to re-enforce McGuinty's position -- Ontario gave up megawatt electricity pricing (for the most part) in 2003 when the electricity market opened; if somebody's going to write about that subject, they ought to know that).

Sorry, EBD, 11:01p.m. -- the Ontario electricity market opened in 2002, not 2003 as I incorrectly stated. I guess it takes one to know one, eh?

"A public hanging has a way of focusing the mind. So does a looming contempt citation if you’re a former Attorney General named Chris Bentley.

No longer the province’s chief law officer, Bentley now serves as the perspicacious yet plodding minister of energy. And he was under the gun Monday.

Comply with a deadline from the Speaker to release thousands of confidential documents about the costly cancellation of an Oakville power plant, or risk a historic ruling of contempt by the opposition-dominated Legislature. Bentley tried to forestall the attack by releasing a motherlode of material on an energy mess of the government’s own making:

Two years ago, Premier Dalton McGuinty cancelled a power plant in Oakville to avoid losing a Liberal-held riding."

TOKYO — Dozens of Taiwanese boats including six coastguard vessels entered territorial waters around bitterly disputed East China Sea islands on Tuesday, Japanese coastguards said.

"Tens of fishing boats entered the waters. They were accompanied by six Taiwanese coastguard ships," a coastguards spokesman said.

The boats are part of a fleet that left Taiwan on Monday vowing to stake their claim to islands where they say they have ancestral fishing rights."

About 40 Taiwanese fishing boats and 12 patrol boats entered waters near the islands on Tuesday morning, briefly triggering an exchange of water cannon fire with Japanese coast guard ships who said the Taiwanese vessels ignored warnings to get out of their territory."

He is not alone , there are alot of people that i talk to that seem to not understand that the higher you go the less oxygen , witch is better for fuel economy as well as you use less fuel becasue the air is less dence and easier to move through .

How ever there are lot's of aircraft that fly below the 10k foot ceiling that literally have windows that roll down!!!

Those are non pressurized aircraft .

So romney really does not sound that stupid when compared to the average joe ,when it comes to aircraft and flight characteristics!

Iwould say most people don't understand why the oxygen mask's are there!!

I think there are several reasons for the demise of the MSM.

The basic one, I suggest, is physical. News that is mediated via the hard copy press is spatially and temporally: old. We used to get our facts, our news data, from the newspapers because we had no other media to carry such data to us.

But now, we have methods that carry that information, to each one of us personally, wherever we are. We don't have to wait for the next day's paper. We see what is happening immediately not merely on our TV but as we walk on the street, on our ipads and smart phones.

This has rendered the paper method of data communication almost irrelevant. We use paper to store data not to move it from its origin to us.

Therefore newspapers have been reduced to opinion pieces, to gossip, to trivia. The opinion pieces are largely leftist, for any variety of other reasons, much of which have to do with the leftist elitist way of viewing the world and commenting rather than acting.

Crisis? Everywhere a crisis.

Scar, the irony is that Oiler owner Katz is a local Edmontonian and has a mob of thugs doing all his speaking for him.
Katz comes off as a very selfish, greedy prick that makes the transplanted Ontarian and former Oiler owner Peter Pockington look like a prince.

At least Pocklington did most of his own talking in front of people until near the end.

Clearly, Katz is looking for a free ride at Edmonton taxpayers expense.
So much for the pride of local ownership.

In the East China Sea, coast guard ships from Taiwan and Japan sprayed water cannons at each other in yet another escalation of the region's territorial dispute. David (5:46), I couldn't agree more that the Mead article is an MOR puff-piece written in a Father Christmas tone by someone who attends too many cocktail parties and is excessively fond of the sound of his own voice. The blockquoted passage, in which he says -- notes -- that the legacy press' coverage of the identical events/economic conditions would be entirely different if the president were a conservative Republican rather than a liberal Democrat is inarguably true, IMO, but his subsequent reassurances that major press outlets are not deliberately trying to shift public opinion to support Obama make one wonder if he's even been following the watch-the-hand elisions and over-the-top bias of the big three networks' coverage of the presidential campaign in the last few weeks. And his assertion that "at (the) bottom press bias is the consequence of honest efforts to report the real news by sincere and thoughtful people" is the sort of thing I hear from a couple of people I know who don't actually pay attention to coverage -- don't watch it or read it -- but are fond of dismissing the concerns and evaluations of those who actually do.

This is a good time to point out again (and this is in the "for what it's worth" category) that by linking to a particular article/post in Reader Tips I'm not necessarily advocating or agreeing with the opinions therein. When I do strongly agree, or when I find a piece notable or cogent I generally say so at the outset and end with "read the whole thing here" or "highly recommended"; when I'm merely…linking, I tend to end with "the rest here", as I did in this case.
