In tonight's video amusement en route to the Tips, from the Prelinger Archives, here's a 1945 short film, produced by the U.S. Office of War Information, about the American presidential elections called Tuesday in November.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

The World Health Organization is keeping a close eye on a disease outbreak in Saudi Arabia caused by a virus in the same family as the one that caused SARS.
The annual Islamic pilgrimage draws hundreds of thousands to the Saudi city of Mecca. The Hajj is one of several large global events — the Olympics are another — that are a constant source of concern for public health officials because of their capacity to spread diseases to many parts of the globe.

RE: Video--USA election.
Good video, however I like our parliamentary system, and our simplified voting much better. And it has worked well for us! God Bless Canada!
(Reuters) - The Senate unanimously passed a bill on Saturday that would shield U.S. airlines from paying for their carbon emissions on European flights, pressuring the European Union to back down from applying its emissions law to foreign carriers.
Republican Senator John Thune, a sponsor of the measure, said it sent a "strong message" to the EU that it cannot impose taxes on the United States.
"The Senate's action today will help ensure that U.S. air carriers and passengers will not be paying down European debt through this illegal tax and can instead be investing in creating jobs and stimulating our own economy," Thune said in a statement.

Interesting story about the total lack of response of the Obozo administration to a "piss christ" exhibition in NY.
http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/wh-silent-over-demands-to-denounce-piss-christ-artwork.html
Given the recent discovery by that stellar constitutional scholar Obozo the great that blasphemy is not protected by the US first amendment, one would think that the police would be all over this display.
Perhaps a display of the artwork "koran in pigshit" would be appropriate at this time, especially if the artist stated that he'd found inspiration in the piss-christ piece.

David Solway pens another masterpiece;
http://pjmedia.com/blog/declining-fortunes/?singlepage=true
"I refer to Karen Warren’s anthology Ecological Feminism, in which she defines the concept of home in an “ecofeminist sense” as “a house, intentional community, and bioregion were one’s individually and mutually satisfying basic needs and life-affirming and sustaining values are met. These are values that take into account both human and nonhuman environmental concerns and are satisfied in respectful and ecologically sustainable ways.”"
Noted on Drudge, that both Obama and Ahmandinejad consider Israeli concerns to Iran's nuclear activities as 'noise'.
http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/obama-refers-israel-concern-over-iran-noise_652967.html
Note also that Iran says that IF Israel attacks Iran, THEN, Iran will attack US bases. Hmm. That's a neat diplomatic agenda; make the US pressure Israel to do nothing about Iran. And, under Obama, that's exactly what will happen.
Meanwhile, Obama is busy campaigning. He's yet again, on The View. But he doesn't have time to meet with Netanyahu.
So often quoted Canadian expert of climate science, Andrew Weaver, is running for the Green Party in BC. But remember there is absolutely no bias or connection between C-AGW science, revenue-generating carbon pricing and politics.
Oh and notorious C-AGW denier, journalist and author of "Watermelons" James Delingpole is running for political office in the UK. The difference...James D. unlike Andrew P. was completely honest in his day job about his lack of impartiality about AGW.
http://hro001.wordpress.com/2012/09/22/survey-participation-invited-does-fear-of-co2-cause-extreme-voting/
"Delingpole is an eminently readable writer whose irreverent tone might not be appreciated by all. While his popular book, Watermelons is sometimes over the top (as are some of his blog posts), I found it to be an enjoyable read. But in the over the top department, Canadian climate modeller, Andrew Weaver beats Delingpole by a country mile.
In 2007, Weaver declared that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Fourth Assessment Report would reveal climate change to be a “barrage of intergalactic ballistic missiles”. Very “conservative” and a perfect illustration of the “evidence-based” science on which his preferred policies, i.e. the urgent need for a war against Carbon Dioxide (CO2), should be implemented.
Weaver, who has rarely chosen to hide his political activist lights under bushel, has now declared that he will be a Green Party candidate in British Columbia’s spring 2013 provincial election. "

"Aussie Debacle Flags China Hard Landing as Iron Market Melts"
"From the end of 2008 through July, no major currency appreciated as much as Australia’s dollar, thanks to booming shipments of iron ore and other commodities to China. Since then, it’s the worst performer as the engine of world growth slows."
"This reversal shows the dangers for an economy tied too closely to another. China, which buys 28 percent of Australia’s exports, said industrial output grew at the slowest pace in three years last month as Europe’s debt crisis cut sales of Chinese goods. Polls show Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s governing Labor Party is under pressure before elections due next year."

RE: Foxconn plant, units of production.
Just think about it. IPhone 5 sales top 5 million in three days
In order to be able to sell 5 million units in three days, they needed to have built them, shipped them and then distributed them to the various iStores around the world to have available for purchase starting last Friday.
Let us say they started production on June 1, 2012 and went flat out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until Aug 31, 2012. That is a period of 92 days, or 132,480 minutes. To have built 5,000,000 units in that time, they needed to crank out about 38 iphone5's a minute for that duration!
Blows my mind thinking about the complexity of all that entails in getting something like that done.
Why can this be done in China, but not in North America?
(I think I know the answer)
Discuss.
Toyota sees writing on the wall!
Toyota Motor Corp has scrapped plans for widespread sales of a new all-electric minicar, saying it had misread the market and the ability of still-emerging battery technology to meet consumer demands.
By dropping plans for a second electric vehicle in its line-up, Toyota cast more doubt on an alternative to the combustion engine that has been both lauded for its oil-saving potential and criticized for its heavy reliance on government subsidies in key markets like the United States.
"The current capabilities of electric vehicles do not meet society's needs, whether it may be the distance the cars can run, or the costs, or how it takes a long time to charge," said, Uchiyamada, who spearheaded Toyota's development of the Prius hybrid in the 1990s.

"Is China Burning?"
"Chinese streets were quiet today after anti-Japan protests, many of them violent, rocked more than a 100 cities last week. Large demonstrations continued through Tuesday, the 81st anniversary of Japan’s invasion of Manchuria.
The disturbances, triggered by a territorial dispute over the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, are commonly described as the worst anti-Japan riots to hit the country since at least 2005, and they may have even been more destructive than that."

"The Foxconn riot shows us the misery of Communism and the hypocrisy of Western liberals"
"The tragic incidents at Foxconn's factory in China, where 10 people died after a 2,000-person brawl, throw the difficulties faced by China as it turns into a modern economy into sharp focus. It also shines a spotlight on hypocrisy in the West.
The incident has been reported as being the result of a personal dispute between employees which escalated. Such a violent escalation was made possible by the atrocious working conditions which apparently exist in Foxconn's factories. If you treat people like animals, eventually they will act that way.
Foxconn has form on this score."

"Greek crisis shutters a third of businesses in Athens"
"ATHENS – Greece’s deep recession has forced almost a third of businesses in the capital’s commercial district to close down as shrinking incomes and frequent strikes drive Athenians away.
Tens of thousands of small businesses, which make up a big chunk of the struggling economy, have shut since Greece secured a 110-billion-euro bailout package in 2010 in exchange for promises of painful austerity measures.
On the capital’s cobbled pedestrian shopping streets, long lines of shops are boarded shut while others have “Everything must go” signs plastered across their windows. Some arcades, once bustling with activity, are empty and enclosed by derelict buildings.
In the city’s “commercial triangle,” where generations of merchants had run successful businesses a stone’s throw from the central Syntagma Square, an August census by retail lobby group ESEE found 31% of shops had closed."
