Q: What do you call someone who's given up looking for work because they either can't find a job or have gone on government benefits?

A: No longer unemployed!

To better prepare for the next four years?

"Ann Althouse got an email today from Michelle Obama telling her (and presumably thousands like her) to give up a meal this week and donate the money saved to the Obama re-election campaign."

Test.

Hmmm. Keith Oblbermann continues to exist, hears dog whistles.

http://weaselzippers.us/2012/09/07/olberdouche-accuses-chuck-norris-of-dog-whistle-racism-for-saying-1000-years-of-darkness/

This Obama campaign donation stuff is getting very creepy. Should people sell their wedding rings? Their kidneys?

His name is spider eyes mulcair..... In case you di-int know!!!

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR EVERYONE WHO CARES TO READ THIS?

DO YOU (not would you) support the separation of the eastern part of Ontario to the tip of the most northerly point of Vancouver island to form a sovergn independent new Canada?

And this is assuming all the assumables ie. same currency same military , same queen , a few very few redrawing of the provincial borders . But ecentially the same country just smaller , with a law that only tax payers get to vote that law would be irrevokable permanently .

Paul - no because then I'll be left all alone out here with a bunch of Newfies and stuff.

EBD-

'What do you call someone who's given up looking for work?'

Hey! Don't knock it.

-

Unemployment dropped from 8.3 down to 8.1,
if Dear Leader keeps running off all the workers soon unemployment will be down to 4.3

45 million unemployed would look good on paper.

-

Hope we can wait/last for the Change!

O.k. Sorry let me clarify sorry mamba!!

I meant essentially cutting half of Ontario and eleiminating Quebec and ultimately letting the eastern provinces vote to stay in confederation . But basically eleiminating the center f the universe and e francophone racists . But going it alone though .. No more Ottawa relocated to central new canada . Type of situation !!!

Sorry I like newbies and most east coasters the ones I meet here do care and do love Canada but the ones that stay out there that collect welfare and pogy are just fat that needs to be trimmed even if they dp out breed everyone in Canada!! Don't get me wrong the east coasters are generally very good people (look at 911) and I would love them to be part of new Canada but will have no lazy slack ass people in this new country . And almost no immigration incentives for people to Havel rage families , mandatory military training for 2 years after high school !!

Anyway that is what I meant . Forget the details just a flat out open and honest vote either your in for new Canada or your out. New Canada meaning the eastern half of Ontario to the most northern tip of Vancouver and having the eastern provinces and norther territories vote to either yay or neh to join with !!! Plain and simple we work out the details after the voteslain and simple we work it out as a new nation after we separate plain and simple your either in or your out !! Forget the details til after !!!

Jerry McGuire type of stuff !!!!

Paul for Emperor!

Now that was an enthusiastic drummer. I sent it to one of my sons-in-law, as he will really appreciate this.

Paul, I suspect that given a little time, this might just happen whether some of us want it to happen or not.

But, we understand our frustration with the perpetual gimme mentality.

Paul...I an your faather...ggggghhh...ggghhh...

What Ken said and...Paul, I am your faather...ggghhh...ggghhh...

Thank God you are picking these treats to watch. That drummer had me spitting up my dinner.

Paul, I'd rather have a vote to cut Quebec off from its allowance.

Okay, please help me out here, in Canada, if we say our unemployment rate is 7.3, how does that compare with the US 8.1%?
Do we both set aside those that have given up on trying to find work or is that just a US play with the numbers type of thing?
I jut want to know if we are comparing apples to apples, or in Obama speak, suckers to suckers?

PETA gets cow pie from the judge.

From the comments, "How about delivering PETA with "wet cow pies" to show what we all think of them", and "Sounds like the same old PETA POOP to me."

Globe and Mail, Friday, Sep. 7. "Don't take literacy for granted".

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/dont-take-literacy-for-granted/article4524704/

"The sad fact is that almost one in two Canadian adults falls short of the desired proficiency level in English or French, while close to three in five lack the desired level of numeracy skills."

It is not possible that one in two Canadians suffers from dyslexia or other physical impediments to learning how to read or to do simple math. The only possible culprit for widespread illiteracy/innumeracy is public education, which the vast majority of Canadians pass through. To ignore this elephant in the room is precisely to take literacy/illiteracy for granted.

The author of the piece is a bigwig at a major Canadian bank. These important economic institutions should not allow themselves to get suckered into giving support to extreme left-wing causes, by which I mean not concern about illiteracy but the whitewashing of the failure of public education.

Paul in Calgary:

Do you believe that the people of Quebec want to separate?? I don`t think so! Mme Marois got 32% of the vote. And not all PQ voters would support separation, trust me.

What needs to happen is for Ottawa to educate Quebec as to what is going on in the rest of Canada--and vice versa.

I am retired--for a few years I did farm tours in Saskatchewan. Our guests were mostly Quebec tourists. Trust me--they are the finest people in the world. A lot of our negative attitude towards Quebec is the result of warped propaganda thanks to the CBC and Radio-Canada.

I also believe that transfer payments from Ottawa need to be revised.

Boy, reading off a teleprompter sure gives a Kenyan an appetite.
Whats available for a nice snack?

How about:

Paul in Calgary:

Sorry--I missed a line or two. I further believe that most Canadians would like to keep Quebec, as long as we`re all on getting treated equally!

I think the separation thing will die out completely by the end of this decade. Quebec no longer has to fear the Anglais as much as they do the Koran.

However is push came to shove--I`d be with you!

I never stated my position plains drifter.

It was just a question.

I am on the fence I don't want to break up Canada but what is happening is not fair to any " have" province.

It is typical socialism 101 . Except Alberta should start a 7 dollar a day day care , free invitro fertilization , lower tuition fees so on and so forth then we will be a have not province as well ......and all other provinces will follow suit .

I Agee with you in that the transfer payments need to be revised to the point of you sink or swim on your own merits plain and simple and isn't just say that loosely Quebec has a ton of natural resources so does everyrovince in this country we are b
Blessed but as long as they can live off of others they will time for a rusecawakening.

I know lots of quebecer that will never go back , one is RCMP with 5 kids , another is a woman who I got to know (love French women) and yes they shave thier pits . Another is an older coupe who run a lotto kiosk all very kind gentle and humble people . But I am tired of the governments shoving thier frap down the throatsvofvthe rest of Canada it leaves a bad taste our mouths .

I hope things get better but unfortunatly the vote pandering has started and once pandoras box is open there is no closing it it will take a solid open honest a fair govorne,nt to fix it a no b.s. type of govornment that will shoot straight with the people Harper is doing it now but am Leary of a 4 consecutive term govornent . It will take at least that to fix up this mixup . Trudeau is a douche he really messed up this country.

golfergirl, 12:08a.m. -- Statistics Canada has previously stated that Canada and the U.S. do not report unemployment data in the same way. As I understand it, without having delved into the methodologies, the Canadian unemployment rate would be significantly lower than it is, officially, if it were reported on the same basis as the U.S. rate. The reverse would obviously hold -- if the U.S. data were reported on the same basis as the Canadian, the U.S. rate would be significantly higher than reported. This would be a helpful, if tangential point, for Mr. Romney to make.

Plainzdrifter, 2:00 and 2:06 a.m. -- I agree with your position, which is manifestly true and reasonable, including your conversion to Paul's position as a last resort. The biggest impediment to the nonsense coming to an end, however, is Mulcair's effort to keep the PQ's position alive, supported in this as he is, as you correctly point out, by the Toronto-based left-wing media and their union pals, who are desperate to get back to their 1970s addiction instead of staying the clean and sober course offered by Mr. Harper. In this regard, the spectacle, drawn to our attention yesterday by wallyj at Reader Tips, of Puppykins Trudeau robocalling, ostensibly in support of Ontario provincial Liberal by-election candidates, against Mulcair's position is as pants-pissingly funny (and pathetic) -- in so many ways -- as it gets.

That video had me laughing. All I can imagine is that he grew up wanting to be Keith Moon, but really needed a gig so took that job.

NV53 - I remember reading something somewhere a while ago that stated that the New England states in the U.S., had a higher literacy rate before they had a public education system than they do now. Its not hard to understand or believe that. My children go to public school, but they are effectively home schooled anyway. I taught them how to read and I taught them to do math. They are curious enough that they have taught themselves many things on their own. They know way more about geography and science than they will learn in school. Given the number of hours that they spend at school, most of it is a complete waste of time.

Assuming that parents are well educated enough to pass on the knowledge them selves and put in a little bit of effort, public schools would not be needed at all until the high school/college level. I assume that this is the way the world worked in the past. Parents passed along reading and writing skills to their children in the same manner as they passed on basic farming and trade skills.

Not everyone was literate and numerate but it didn't matter that much because there was a huge demand for mindless labour. Anyone who wanted to rise above that could if they were prepared to put in the effort.

It was in the first few words of Ann Romney's speach at the RNC "I am a Coal Miners Daughter"
(Her father was from a Coal mining Family in Wales)

I hope the Loretta Lynn lyrics get played every time she appears..It connects to Joe Six Pack in a way the Harvard Kenyans (Pubic service) can't

This is amusing. I received an e-mail from rabble.ca asking for a donation to support an independent 'rabble' reporter in Ottawa.

Apparently they are, " frustrated with mainstream media support of Stephen Harper ".

Jeez Wallyj...do ya figure they might hire a rogue page..?..

She would be perfect,a rogue page filing rogue pages. Her column could come out mid-week and be called " Wednesday's ". I miss Brigitte, she makes me smile.

DS @5:16am - "As I understand it, without having delved into the methodologies, the Canadian unemployment rate would be significantly lower than it is, officially, if it were reported on the same basis as the U.S. rate. The reverse would obviously hold -- if the U.S. data were reported on the same basis as the Canadian, the U.S. rate would be significantly higher than reported. Here's another point or two Romney could make v.v. jobs:

http://jds-midknightreview.blogspot.ca/2012/09/the-dnc-democrat-national-cult-touts-45.html#!/2012/09/the-dnc-democrat-national-cult-touts-45.html

The talking point number from Dems of 4.5 jobs "created" in the last 29 months is bogus, which should be apparent when one compares unemployment rates to job growth. As the article states:

"CNN concluded something this blog has been arguing all along, that the 4.5 million number (as of yesterday) is not a net/net number. When jobs losses are figured into the mix, against jobs “created,” we have a net/net of 300,000 or 4.2 (million) jobs less than the DNC claim ... when public sector jobs are added, we learn that a net/net of 700,000 have been lost contrasted to the Administration's "4.5 million jobs" claim. So much for "We ARE better off than four years ago."

These numbers I understand, are not population adjusted. So, here's another way to look at it - on CNN last night it was noted that the current monthly job growth has to be 150,000 jobs/month to adjust for population growth. IOW in population adjusted terms, job growth of 150,000 equals zero per capita growth. So, at 96,000 reported for last month, the US continues to bleed jobs.

Romney must call Obama on this, and give the real numbers to the American people. It's critical he challenge the Dem misinformation campaign clearly and calmly and without labels like "voodoo economics." The Dems are intentionally misleading the American people so I hope Mr Romney makes that point, and use this to show the desperation and shady politics the Dems are prepared to use to save themselves.

I don't think people need to know the true record on unemployment because they can see it with their own damn eyes. If you've been to the US lately you can see the decline pretty clearly.

james. I disagree that everyone knows the true unemployment picture. If the GOP doesn't counter the Dems on this, they will turn this lie into the "truth" as they have done before, courtesy of their many attack dogs.

IMO it would be unforgiveable for the GOP to let this one go unchallenged.

wallyj @11:00 - or if you want to get a bit meta, here's Gary Oldman as long dead hot shot Sid Vicious performing "My Way".

I wonder who paid the bill when Pierre and his 18 year old flower child soiled the sheets at the Chateau Frontenac??

Mark Steyn: Choice not part of this future

But what's strange is that so many people don't find it strange at all – that at a critical moment in the affairs of the republic the ruling party should assemble to listen to a complacent 31-year-old child of privilege peddling the lazy cobwebbed assumptions of myopic narcissism. Lola Montez was what botanists would call a "sport" – morphologically distinct from the rest of the societal shrub. The tragedy for America is that Sandra Fluke is all too typical.
