What is it John Gormley says about the left and process? Delay, obstruct, destroy.
“When I started this I was anti-stadium, but I’ve changed my outlook on it. I’ve been listening to people and I think the consensus is that people want (a new stadium), they just don’t want this. There needs to be a dialogue here, with the process and with the funding model.”
Shorter Dawn: I'm getting ridiculed for being a wing-nut.
If you're going to the game tonight against the BC Felions, please respect the trash and don't feed the hippies.

I don't necessarily agree with this group, but I definitely don't like the fact that my tax dollars are going into pro sport facilities. Let the Riders fund raise, they have such a loyal fan base. I'm sure the Rider Nation will step up and contribute...
Beuler?
Beuler?
Beuler?
Everyone is contributing to the project, djb.
Ticket holders, business, City and Province. The only major player missing is the federal gov't and I agree with that.
Exactly, djb. These are privately owned franchises; why is the general public being asked/forced to pay for the Stadium? And why in the name of common sense an uncovered one, of any description?
Same for BC Place. The retractable roof was a mind-boggling boondoggle. So the Whitecaps could play in the big leagues?!
They could have had Empire Stadium basically for free! It's just been renovated, fercrissake!!

Has anyone said yet, "The new home of the Roughriders can no more have a deficit than a man can have a baby"?
*I'd like to see a new stadium in Regina, but we shouldn't have to start a national lottery to pay for it.
I expect that Dawn Thomas is just trying to drum up support for her Ward 9 bid in the civic elections.
No comment on who pays for what, as I wish it could be done with private money, and this does smell a little of bread and circuses.
Go Lions! (Dives under a blast mat)
Stop it Arty. Put it in Reader tips.
Yes Arty, some folks even commented on the Reader Tips thread, about 11 times so far, at last count...

You might want to get your facts straight first bdefore commenting.Sask. Roughriders is NOT privately owned.
HEY!
Green Tribe, we'll scratch yer eyeballs out. Catfight tonight!
The riders are not privately owned, but the shareholders have no vote, and are paid no dividends.
As a resident of Saskatchewan, I strenuously object to my taxes being used to fund even a single seat of an entertainment facility. ANY entertainment facility.
The business case is simple... Without tax money, will it be built?
No? Then it is not viable and should not proceed.
But if the city and province contribute significantly to the cost of the house I want to build, I'll have a back yard party open to everyone who can pay the entrance fee, nine times a year.
Sounds like a great deal, doesn't it? Local businesses will definitely benefit!
My sincere apologies. I didn't know about 'user tips'. There's been so much outrage on SDA over the possibility of OK returning to Canada I thought people might be interested.
And as an Eskimo fan I would do anything to change the subject.
Well that explains the smell all the way out here on the coast.
You riders fans let your dirty smelly hippies get outside.
Taxpayers are always on the hook for stadiums built for professional sport. It's the Canadian way.
Take a look at what's going on in Edmonton. The Oilers owner is now threatening to move the team if the taxpayer doesn't step up to the plate with additional funds. He of course will end up with any profits.
Calgary will be next. And if you think quebec city hasn't got it's eye on your wallet......
Saskabush has lots of oil and potash money,so they should be able to dig up enough dough through private donations to pay for most of the stadium. The rest can be held back from those transfer payments Sask usually donates to Quebec.
Regardless, the Ruffled-Riders will lose to the He-Lions(Fe-Lions? what the hell is THAT?)tonight, 31- 17.
Unless they don't, in which case,I was misquoted.
I was opposed to the stadium until I looked at the financing a bit more - it is LOAN to the city from the province to build the stadium that will be paid back from user fees. Since I'm will not ever use the stadium, I will not be paying for it - build away!!!
Government should NOT be putting anything into stadiums period. How disgusting.
Maureen, if you honestly believe the loan will be paid back and not "forgiven" then I have some oceanfront property near Cudworth you may be interested in.
But the fact the province has to "loan" the city tax money is a strong indicator that this project is just not financially viable.
What is it called when a government provides advantage for one business over others? Lets not forget stadiums do not create wealth but they do gather wealth there is a finite amount of disposable income to be spent and the government has decided that they should give an advantage to some businesses with the very tax dollars collected from those businesses who compete directly against tbe benefactors. And if those competitors were to speak up.....well we have already seen that poser capitalists will label you small minded or a wingnut. "its a garbage win, they had no back up goalie" Ned Brayden
Here comes the science.

You wanna watch sports build your own goddamn stadium.
Don't feed the crony capitalists, they get aggressive.

Even worse! What the hell is Gov't doing getting involved in professional sports?! As a conservative minded website, you'd think the readership would be grabbing pitchforks and torches!
DaninVan, the SDA commenters rallied when the province cut a couple of million in tax credits for the film industry, but seem to think tax money for football stadiums is a good thing. Go figure...
