Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?

Oops.

In an interview with Telemundo Wednesday night, Obama said that the U.S. relationship with the new Egyptian government was a "work in progress," and emphasized that the United States is counting on the government of Egypt to better protect the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, which was attacked by protesters on Sept. 11.

"I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy," Obama said. "They're a new government that is trying to find its way. They were democratically elected. I think that we are going to have to see how they respond to this incident."

That comment had Egypt watchers scratching their heads, especially since technically, Egypt was designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally in 1989 when Congress first passed the law creating that status, which gives them special privileges in cooperating with the United States, especially in the security and technology areanas.

His thinking must have evolved, gag

This is typical Obama, with his refusal to take a stand, known as 'leading from behind' or 'voting present'. Egypt is neither a friend nor a foe. It all depends on who he is talking to.

The reason Obama refuses to take a stand, apart from his not having any principles, is that his whole mode of interaction with others is to induce whoever he is interacting with at the moment into a state of adulation, of sycophantic adoration of Obama. That's all there is to Obama. An empty chair.

That's why Obama refers to his focus on 'negotiation', on 'talking with them'. His whole life has rested on his ability to misinform and manipulate people, at the moment he is interacting with them, to be His. He doesn't rely on people liking him for any policies or principles; he has neither; all he is, is an Emotional Manipulator.

Obama, yet again, is too busy zipping around the country in Air Force One, campaigning for Himself, to attend the daily intelligence briefings. He won't even spend a day in the WH working on these issues. He's upset about Egypt and Libya because they are interfering with his reelection.

What should the US do? Immediately freeze all aid publicly and state that it remains frozen until these nations restrain their radicals and ensure the security of the US embassies in their countries.

Will Obama do this? No, not unless he is forced to by others.

I what ever name I call myself today. Vote present.

An interesting wrinkle for the presidential campaign.

How the US voting public perceives the Obama administration's handling of this latest set of unpredictable events* might well spell success or failure for a second term.

* And therefore relatively unmanageable events in campaign terms. As Rumsfeld might note, campaign spin doctors hate "unknown unknowns".

Pretty hard to argue with ET. My sentiments exactly.

Right after I sent my comment it occurred to me that if he is told that a sitting president in a time of war is never voted out, critter that he is, he might just start one.

Related: the spin is that Obama skips the briefings because he's so smart. I'd love to see the evidence for this guy's supposed high functioning intellect.

Wait. He doesn't have time to meet with Netanyahu, but he's doing interviews with Telemundo?

Right. And here is what Mursi is saying:
" Egypt’s presidency instructed its embassy in Washington to take all legal measures against the makers of the film that degrades the Prophet, condemning the attempt of “a sinful type of person” to insult the Messenger of God.

Yesterday [Sept. 12], the Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party called for a million-man demonstration on Friday in Tahrir Square and all major mosques in Egypt’s governorates to denounce and protest the degrading film."

Obama: The Idiot in Chief.

GOOD GAWD. He can't tell the difference between an ally and an enemy. So, Egypt, according to Oblahblah, is "a work in progress"? Comments like this make it clear that he's a work in regress, and if he gets four more years, we're in huge trouble.

He's "counting on the government of Egypt to better protect the U.S. Embassy in Cairo ..."? HUH? Why wouldn't he be deploying the highest level of protection from the United States rather than "count on" a work-in-progress government whose response he's unsure of?

I'm with ET: The U.S. should freeze all public aid from the U.S., restrain Egyptian radicals, and ensure the security of its own embassies rather than rely on a government that's an unknown quantity. Obama's inaction is putting Americans' lives in danger

Obama's hopeless.

I'm surprised Obama has not issued a apology to the murderers for something Bush or Israel must have done.

Since the government that treaty was made with id defunct, so is the treaty. Kiss that billion-and-a-half per annum bribe good-bye, oh Lions of Islam.

Zero should continue writing his own speeches, they're marvelous aren't they? Continue writing....instead of attending National Security briefings.

Let me make it perfectly clear: the doofuss believes he's a man for all seasons.

Marines at the US Embassy in Egypt were probably not issued live ammo.

http://freebeacon.com/reports-marines-not-permitted-live-ammo/

Take with a grain of salt of course, because it's the internet. However this does fit with the turn of events in Egypt. Even if they were issued live ammo they clearly had orders not to fire on attackers.

Oh and the US provides a bunch of food aid the last time I checked, since they are unable to feed themselves.

Subtract both of those out and any government is facing serious serious problems. They may be able to substitute food from somewhere else but seeing as world food supplies are tight, that might be challenge.

Patsplace, yes, I agree that if Obama felt that a war would enable his reelection, he'd start one. He is completely without morals, without principles. But I don't think this situation is due to him, alas. I think a lot has to do with Iran.

As for Morsi instructing its Washington Embassy to 'take all legal measures against the film that degrades the prophet', this is a statement for his home political situation. He's walking a fine line between the MB radicals there, the MB moderates, the non-MB, and his fears of angering the US and the rumblings in Congress of stopping US aid. AND, he wants the EU aid of 1/2 billion. And he wants a 4.8 billion loan from the IMF.

There are no legal measures that can be taken to repress free speech in the US. That includes Al Gore's infamous AGW film, Moore's various anti-Bush films, and so on. So, it's political talk.

Morsi has just declared that he's against violence, heh, and that he will 'prevent' further attacks against embassies in Cairo.

Oh, and he also called on Assad to step down in Syria. Hmm. That's a confrontation with Iran.

Look, talking in the seminar or prayer room is one thing. Facing up to the factual realities of

1) an imploding Egyptian economy, which leads to unrest...
2)and trying to divert that unrest to protesting 'nasty foreign films'...
3) and dealing with the more radical facets of the MB,
3)and trying to get money, a lot of money, from the West.
4)AND, dealing with Iran setting up internal terrorist attacks (I suggest the Libyan attack was organized by Iran)...This is not easy.

Iran is, in my view, trying to destabilize the ME, so that it can in the background, finalize its nuclear weapons, and also, set up the infrastructure of contacts and cells, to launch a more aggressive control of the whole region.

"Shoot first, aim later"

"In a gunfight, it's important to get your first shot off fast. This disconcerts your opponent, allowing you to make the second shot perfect."

Marine Guards in the Saigon embassy had one heck of a battle back in 1968 but I suspect they are now ordered to surrender like in Tehran and hope the locals don't kill everyone. Pilots used to do that. They don't anymore.

Back in 1979 when the Tehran embassy was captured, Jimmy Carter, the 2nd worst president, should have had B52s dropping bombs within 24 hours. You tolerate state sponsored terror and you get lots.

This whole chain of events seems coordinated to me - attacks on the US Embassy personnel in Libya and Egypt. I think the Canadian move to sever diplomatic relations with Libya and Israeli PM Neyanyahu request to meet Obama signal concern about a larger threat.

There is no doubt Iran is ratcheting up their ME destabilization efforts, especially the volatile Syrian situation. What specifically does Iran have in mind. One one hand their leadership is trying to deflect pressure they are receiving from their allies, notably China who is unhappy with their adventurism which is affecting their international trade while putting upward pressure on oil prices, neither of which China wants. They just can't seem to help themselves as they try to rival the US as a superpower.

Secondly, I believe Iran, and their MB allies, with AQ directing traffic in the background, is trying to provoke a reaction from the US or even Israel, perhaps a military strike or some kind of other intervention, which they can use as a wedge issue with the rest of the Arab/Muslim world. Perhaps, most dangerously, recent events are cover for a larger, more coordinated attack by AQ.

Why? Perhaps they wish to have some influence on the US election. More likely, Iran is acting with their typical immaturity and thin skin. They're not happy with the pressure they're getting from China and the international arena in general.

The only fly in the ointment of my thesis is the Sunni/Shiite cooperation required for me to be right. It wouldn't be the first time they have worked together, and seem to have common cause, for instance, in the Palestinian hot zones. Having said that, it's difficult to see how an obscure internet film, made by a couple of idiots, could have such an immediate and coordinated effect. This Friday will provide some answers and the world gauges further violence from MB/Islamist groups.

Either way, whether or not AQ or other Sunni groups are cooperating, Iran is trying to force some kind of confrontation for whatever their immediate goals might be. IOW this is a dangerous situation and Obama must be more clear in his intentions and goals, and the media must be more focussed and impartial, instead of criticizing Romney (his Lehmann moment?) for his concern of "mixed messages" coming from the US administration.

Mr Obama, either get serious with these provocateurs or leave the ground to Clinton or Romney. This weak president can get the world into great difficulty if he miscalculates again.

The easiest way to make friends in the Arab world is to bomb the crap out of Iran. The Arabs hate Iran more than they hate the US. The thought of Iranian nukes make Arabs pee their pants.

All hail the Chimp in Chief!

The Bummer is not speaking for Hillary. She has said that all systems are NOT to be affected by the Assassination of anyone. "full speed ahead".

Does Obama dare to cross Hillary? One of them should resign over the Arab spring nonsense & Hillary is continuing to Apologize. (She still owes America an apology for her "Stand by her Man" lying interview about sick Willie)

Romney & Ryan played them like the fools they are, Obama & Hillary are now battling Banjos...

Obama has a tendency in his unscripted comments to, ah, 'shoot first, aim later'. [Gosh, didn't he say that about Romney? Ah well.]

I'm not referring to his famous 'The police acted stupidly' but to his yesterday's comment on Egypt that" I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy."

The WH is now trying to walk back that comment, declaring that Obama didn't mean it, that we are the problem in misunderstanding the Great One, that 'ally is a legal term of art' (What?)..

And telling us what Obama really, really said, which we didn't hear, and really, really meant, which was the opposite of what he said.

"You can't take what the President said literally and hold the meaning against him."
~stuff White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said in damage control mode, again

The Obama White House is a joke and we could all be in stitches watching the comedy sketches if what he said -- or didn't say -- didn't have such dire consequences.

Having idiots -- and I mean vainglorious, megalomaniac, know-nothings -- in positions of power is extremely dangerous. We're one unguarded, misguided, unteleprompted comment by Obama away from a world conflagration.

Who needs a red button when you've got the Obamanation and his stooges in the WH?

BO: I'm not sure if I'm indecisive or not....

Barack Obama: "They were democratically elected".

Irrelevant, if they don't have a free constitution. If Egypt's constitution is based on dictatorial Islamic theocracy then elections mean nothing.

Fidel Castro was also "democratically elected" for 49 years running! And after his brother Raul succeeded him the Castro brothers now total 53 years in power -- the longest-reigning dictatorship IN HISTORY (http://www.chacha.com/question/who-was-the-longest-serving-dictator-throughout-history).

Anecdote: when Cuba's Minister of Foreign Affairs -- Ricardo Alarcón -- came to speak at McMaster University in 1993, he actually had the gall to compare the Communist dictatorship in Cuba with the Monarchy in England -- Fidel was simply a popular Monarch like Queen Elizabeth II! And the hundreds of idiot academics who filled that big hall in the Health Sciences Centre actually stood to give the guy a standing ovation for the ridiculous statement. Only two people didn't stand and clap for the clap-trap propaganda: me and my buddy Max who was an exchange student from Sweden -- we laughed and hooted at the top of our lungs, and afterwards confronted the organizers of the event.

Anyway, the point is educated people and politicians are gullible because they want to be gullible. I expect that they will be equally as gullible about Islamo-fascism as they were about Communism, or as sophisticated Germany was about Nazism. Until it is too late and a potential nuclear confrontation or decades of wars or proxy wars finally brings to its knees this 21st Century threat to freedom.

Barack Obama: "They were democratically elected".

Well said Ricardo.

Regardless they were "democratically elected" with a little help overthrowing the initial government.

The best part for Obamba is that he can just keep overthrowing small governments until the one he likes the best is finally democratically elected.

ricardo, you are exactly right; an election without a constitution is meaningless. Egypt doesn't yet have a constitution and those working on it are bogged down in fights between Islamists and secularists.

In the how stupid can Obama get category: I'm beginning to wonder if he's purposely trying to come across as an idiot in order to lose this election.

The only thing he seems to like about living in the White House -- he doesn't like going to intel meetings, which is one of the main functions of a POTUS, especially in times of volatility -- is entertaining, playing basketball, and first-class-all-the-way holidays and junkets to play golf.

Four years in the White House have guaranteed Oblahblah cash for life on the talk circuit, not to mention the umpteen number of books he'll be able to write (with a ghost writer, of course). If he loses the election, he can spend the rest of his life on the basketball court and the golf links and not have to worry about such pesky things as public speeches and Cabinet meetings.

'Sounds like a plan to me.

Ricardo & ET, exactly right.

ET,

And the irony is the Egyptian military was hanging on to power until a proper constitution would be drafted -- the military saw the handwriting on the wall and wanted to avoid the Muslim Brotherhood from taking over.

But as usual the impatient West, egged on by the duplicitous MB and 'Bama's and the Left's simplistic understanding of "democracy", produced dubious democratic elections at best. With Sharia as the de facto constitution.

Roses are red violets are blue I'm narcissus and so am I

Egypt is obviously punching above it's weight class.
I agree with everything ET posted on this debacle.
(o)bama has to run with his affirmative Nobel on the (m)uslim (b)rotherhood team. He is in the race but has no clue on how to win the race.(h)e never learned how. He is a narcissist, he has won just showing up in his noodle, the public is just too stupid know this.

Obama's Justice Dept. just outed the identity of the film maker.

//phantomsoapbox.blogspot.ca/2012/09/shut-up-they-explained.html

Now just how is President Odumass supposed to know about Egypt's status? Its not like is has ever been briefed or anything. I mean that would require he attend a briefing session and that would take away from his leisure time and attending would mean he couldn't just vote present.

the clown prince of international politics.

Bambam couldn't take a stand because the Teleprompter-in-chief didn't have an app for that. That and Michelle wasn't talking to him.
this guy is a puppet. It is still unknown who has their hand up his butt working him.

btw, Hillary had strong words for the terrorist but equally scolded the film makers for being nasty.

Ever wonder how a riot can spontaneously happen? Dutch cartoons come out and suddenly everyone in the middle east has a Holland flag to burn. A video is shown on the internet and literally thousands have watched it and riot. Oh yeah, they all understand English too.

Perhaps FP missed the part where the was a revolution that has resulted in a major change in that country's government, which is now dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Obama's statement: "I don't think that we would consider them an ally, but we don't consider them an enemy"

Is probably a very smart way of looking at things.

Not knowing who your enemies are and who you can trust is the mark of a fool.

Defending fools is the mark of an idiot.

The Canadian MSM has finally decided to air and run the BS film angle today. Guess they were awaiting WH orders on how to handle the mess.

Looks like some obscure online filmmaker gets thrown under the Obamba bus, talk about killing multiple birds with one stone.

All Obamba simply needs to do now is censor the internet and make disparaging comments about Islam illegal. No problem, we all now can forget the fact that the US state Department had allied itself with Al Quada throughout these North African regime changes called “the Arab Spring” for European foreign commercial interests, and that the well predicted Islamic fundamentalists placed in power picked 9/11 to stash and kill American’s and their embassies throughout the region.

Yup all from some unknown online nobody.

Makes you wonder what’s going to happen when the goat herders around the oasis cooler eventually catch on to SDA.

ricardo >

As I had already stated you’re comments about the lack of a constitution were bang on.

The problem for any of the Arabic/ Islamic countries is that a proper western style Constitution is incompatible with Arabic culture and it offspring Islam. The Liberal forces that encouraged and applauded the Arab Spring missed the return boat every bit as much as they do with their benefits of mass Islamic immigration theories.

Under normal circumstances, yes. But the Obadope has forgotten something: he's in the middle of an election! Romney already publicly disparaged the Obama people for throwing free speech under the bus over Libya. And although media like Canada's CBC tried to misrepresent Romney's comment as "politicizing" the issue for the campaign, the fact is Romney was de-politicizing it -- there's no way you could let Obama's Islamist murder apologetics pass, campaign or no campaign. But the campaign certainly gives Romney extra weight on the issue.

Plus how do they explain that there are a number of democratically-minded Libyans who are actually protesting IN FAVOUR of the U.S.?

Speaking of Jimmy Carter...

When Jimmy Carter is correcting Obama on his gaffes...I don't think there's even a word to describe how f**ked up that is.
