The story reminds me of the climate warmists and how the Gore/Suzuki's push a new religion of the gullible to astronomical heights. "Experts" with blinders on go back for centuries and will always be the last word on a subject until rational people shred the evidence. Swap Europe for IPCC and you can keep most of the words and reasoning. With a arrogant UN looking down their noses at us.

To be a bit more clear; a reputation is not what is saved but that the truth of the matter is brought to light and the belief or the system of belief is aligned to that truth.

The leftards hate truth. Ideology is what matters and any criticism of it brings out the wrath of the pointy-headed brights who want to feel superior to the plebes.
