Elect socialists, reap rewards....

The Quebec Employers Council, the largest business group in the province, expressed "deep concern about the negative impacts" of the PQ tax hikes, and economist Brigitte Alepin warns Marois could chase away the richest taxpayers.

Always thought that had the internet been around in the sixties, Pierre Trudeau would never amounted to anything more than a back bench socialist MP from Quebec.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

When can we vote them off of the island?

It’s precisely why they want to spread socialism globally, so that there is nowhere to run to.

They can afford to exist solely in the wordy rhetoric of the seminar room. Reality does not touch them. When the economy tanks, heh, they'll simply demand more money from the rest of Canada.

AAARRRGHHH!!! Don't these communist bastards ever learn?

This is just like the early 90's in B.C.,when our own glorious commies, the NDP, cancelled all the timber sales held by Carrier Lumber in the just-then-infested Mountain Pine Beetle timber west of Williams Lake.

Carrier rightly took 'em to Court, won, cost us taxpayers almost 200 million, judge said it was the worst case of government malfeasance he'd ever seen.

And the M-P Beetle went on to destroy millions of acres of good timber.

What boggles my mind is the fact that Quebec can receive transfer payments because they are considered a have not province but in fact they have untold resources which they refuse to develop. Of course they will develop them when there becomes a shortage and then they can control the market, perhaps that is the plan, but the bitter irony is they won't develop their own natural gas resources but are happy to take money from Alberta which comes from the natural gas revenues. If a province is truly a "have not" province they deserve help, if they just sit on their wealth while spending someone elses they should get SFA, in my opinion.

The only good thing I can thing of for Pierre Trudeau is the joke that the President of the United States appointed a commission to study teenagers and their interests and wants, but Canada's PM, Pierre Trudeau married one.

wafer said: "If a province is truly a "have not" province they deserve help."

I would argue that if a province is truly "have not" , it should not be considered a province, but a territory.

What are we so worried about, folks? According to Jonathan Kay in today's National Post, wonder boy Justin Trudeau is just the thing to fix everything that ails Quebec!

Oh the train wreck is coming and we have ring-side seats!

I can't wait until the feds bail them and Ontario out. And they will.

Here's a nightmare Canada today being run by jacks coalition. With people like this dim bulb running it.

One way of dealing with these socialist idiots would be to cut off all transfer payments to Quebec. Harper doesn't need them (and we as a country would be better off if they were cut loose).

The reason for cutting off transfer payments would be the refusal of the province to live up to its economic potential. Quebec is the equivalent of overgrown teenager living in their parents basement at age 40 since they can't get the job they expect and, in protest, refuse to work.

I have seen this so many times before, both when I lived in Quebec and after I fled. The sad thing is that the separatists don't care if the monied class flees the province. For them, ideology trumps everything else. A classic "cut off your nose to spite your face" attitude. Even in the face of obvious economic disaster, they will never change.

Yes Ideology is more important than money.
The obsession with money on this blog is astounding.

BTW Marois announced a tax break for 97% of the people and a increase for 3%. So it is really a tax break. No new money is raised. It just raised from the people who can afford it.

To all the people who threaten to leave I say: Shut up and LEAVE. LEAVE!!!

Quebecois NDP separatiste >

"To all the people who threaten to leave I say: Shut up and LEAVE. LEAVE!!!'

Right on bro, I'm with you on that 100%!

If Quebec has another referendum to separate, you can be assured that millions of Albertan's and other westerners will be in full support for you.

Via la separation!

Alberta has enough Communist & Socialists these day.Stay away please. Our biggest red diva, being the Premier of a corrupt provincial Party.

Dear Troll: Just suppose that there is great money to be made by proving your lack of functional grey matter daily on some Flatlander's blog, and your income were to rise to the point that you'd be part of that 3% getting hit with higher taxes... Would you not feel that it is an unfair tax because you heroically expouse your views to earn your way, but the other 97% are too stinking lazy to haul their pathetic derrieres off to their computers to do the same and make great money too? Why should you have to "think" for them and risk the possibility of tunnel carpal syndrome too? This is how the rest of us feel about a province that simply refuses to get its collective sh*t together and earn their keep!

Zero sympathy for the businesses operating there. I think it's funny. They just don't "get it".

Well...you "getting it" yet business community? You "getting it" yet?

The sooner Quebec leaves the better off the rest of Canada will be. They no longer have any connection to the committment to our country,in fact they have repeatedly rejected the opportunity to join Canada on their terms. If they want to leave let them go,you cannot hold a people against their will, nor would we want to.Good bye Quebec lets see how well you do with no cheques from Canada. After all isn t that what true independence is all about?Let us know how thats workin for you OK.

dmorris, "AAARRRGHHH!!! Don't these communist bastards ever learn?"

Short answer is NO.

Hayek warned us.

Frankemm, agreed, and the sooner the better.

Thank you QNDPS: you just made my case for me.

When there is no one left to provide you and yours with their welfare payments, we'll see how that works for you.

Oh, and by the way...after you leave, with a dramatically geographically reduced "country", the door is closed. You're not welcome back.

But I'm sure you'll be able to express solidarity with the third world, because you'll be part of it.

What you just don't get is the rest of us know that you have finally overplayed your hand. We no longer give a sh!t about you.

So true, Revnant Dream and we can add the Yukon to that Alberta list. We do not have a PMS nasty UN pinko Premier as you do but the Yukon has been infilterated with left wingers from every province (esp Kebec) and Tide, Sierra Club freaks.
There are 30,000 people up here, thousands of sq. miles and they squawk until they are blue in the face, if there is a whisper of resource mining on any remote mountain top unless it's the Chineese; if it is the latter, not a peep.

The Yukon is dependent on the 10 provinces for the luxury welfare state that does exist here. If a person works for any of the FOUR layers of gument (about 75 % do) that person gets a salary and perks that would make a strong stomach in any other jurisdiction loose his/her last meal.

We can just be grateful that we have PMSH and Conservatives in Ottawa and Brad Wall in Sask. It's all we have going for us all, right now.

Czechoslovakia separated into two and both sides are much happier now. I do believe that that could easily be true in our country.

Marois would be a concern if she had any real power. At this point she can bluster enough to adversely affect their economy knowing she can still count on equalization payments from the ROC.

It's long past time we got rid of equalization. A province as rich in resources as Quebec would then have incentive to WORK instead of playing blackmail politics, electing separatists and threatening to break up the country.

Marois could chase away the richest taxpayers

The richest of those remaining, that is. Haven't wealth-creating residents been leaving Quebec since about 1970?

The thought process going on in Quebec is certainly not unique to that part of the country. It is simply the scale of it.

Romney's 'dreadful' comment that 47% of the American public has expectations that government should provide for them is indicative of a North American thought process.

Look at which provinces have the largest portion of their GDP provided by equalization. Last time I looked it was Manitoba at over 50%. There are very few ramifications in Canada for those who cannot run their financial affairs in a responsible manner.

How are Canadian provinces any different from Greece, Spain, Portugal etc who received their international credit because of their EU membership. I suggest very little. Quebec might be the biggest borrower other than Ontario but other provinces are as fiscally irresponsible. What is happening in Euroland with expectations by most members that Germany should bail these countries out will be repeated in Canada. When the crunch comes these indebted provinces will go to Ottawa for a bailout. That is a certainty! The question will be whether Ottawa will have the capablity of doing so and whether the responsible provinces will co-operate. I hope not.

"Elect socialists, reap rewards...."

More truthfully - elect socialists, rape the nation.

Elect socialists, aid in the robbery.

Elect sodialists, legitimize theft.

Frenchdip said: "Yes Ideology is more important than money."

Oh, so its perfectly cool then if the rest of Canada stops sending transfer payments to Quebec.

No, transfer payment to Quebec are made in large part by taxes that Quebec sent to Ottawa. It is just money that get back. Like a boomerang.

QNDPS: Once again you have demonstrated that you are living in an ideological fastasy world. Since 1957, Quebec contributed $107 billion to the equalization process, and received $253 billion. Do the math, peasant, net benefit is $146 billion. That that doesn't even include the billions Quebec receives annually from Canada Health Transfer and Canada Social Transfer payments.

Face up to it...you're welfare bums...and ingrates as well.

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh $7.
The eighth $12.
The ninth $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement -- until one day, when the owner threw them a curve.

"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20."

So, now dinner for the ten only cost $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes.

So, the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six, the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share'?

The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being 'PAID' to eat their meal.

So, the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:

The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man "but he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than me!"

"That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

quebec is in flux. has been for the last 50 years. so what else is new?
the good news is that socialism and gouvernmama is in question (underline that twice s.v.p.)
with patience and perseverance the affliction will be reduced to a note in the trashbin of history.
we didn't ask for the challenge but common sense will prevail. and that's all she wrote.
i cannot help but quote margaret thatcher who said, "socialism fails when they run out of other peoples' money to spend."
i will live to see the end of this outrageous distortion of reality.
