Free Ethical Oil!

Jo Nova;

Groups like Greenpeace and The Australian Conservation Foundation argue that really, Governments are helping fossil fuel companies far more than green ones. But while governments rewrite national economies to help “green” companies, about half of the help for fossil fuels is simply that the government didn’t take as much off them as it could. The net flow of money is still from Big-Fossil-Energy towards Big-Government. It takes a special kind of grand entitlement to call that a subsidy.

It seems to me that no matter what the discussion, there is almost always a common sense approach or answer. No matter what, the left always takes the opposing side. Maybe what we refer to as left or right actually is what used to be called good and evil.

Here's a valuable website that will help (hopefully) people suffering from carbophobia, and a must read for the rest of us.

The Carbon Sense Coalition
All about carbon in life, energy and the atmosphere

"The Carbon Sense Coalition is a voluntary group of people concerned about the extent to which carbon is wrongly vilified in Western societies, particularly in government, the media, and in business circles. We aim to restore balance and reason to the carbon debate, and to explain and defend the key role of carbon in production of most of our energy for heat, light, and transportation, and all of our food."

Anyone who has graduated "cum laude" from the College of the Blindingly Obvious just needs to point out how much tax is included in the cost of a litre of gas.

Fossil fuel is a cash cow for government. Notice the relative silence of politicians over gas prices? With 30 percent or more of the price at the pumps simply federal and provincial taxes (depending on the province) that's a lot of loot, er, revenue.

So indeed, the oil industry - and of course, the poor bloody consumer as always - is doing the subsidizing here: subsidizing every lame political notion and nostrum imaginable.

Never mind that fossil fuels are absolutely essential for national security... I mean how are those sparky tanks working out for ya?

Want just one little Canadian example of your tax-dollars at work?

Ducks Unlimited Canada - which self-describes as a "conservation" organization - was the recipient of $23 million from federal, provincial and federal governments last year.

I wish I had the time to go into the Canada Revenue Agency site and add up all the other handouts that went to our dozens and dozens of "enviro-charities". Then again, perhaps it's just as well that I have other things to do.

When you start looking at the number of employees with six-figure salaries that these groups have on their payrolls, you can't help but come to the conclusion that the non-profit industry can be pretty profitable... especially when the taxpayer is footing the bill.

In related news, today is the third anniversary of Ontario's Green Feed in Tariff program, also known as Dulton's Bend Over and Get Financially F#cked program.

" The implications of Ontario paying above-market pricing (71¢ per kWh to IKEA and Loblaws) are significant. To put it in context, the Global Adjustment — the pot where subsidies for wind and solar are temporarily placed before billing ratepayers — for the 12 months ended Aug. 31, 2009, totalled $2.98-billion. For the 12 months ended August 31 this year, the Global Adjustment had grown to $6.2-billion, a jump of over $3.2-billion or 107% in three years.

Dulton's legacy . . . because as long as you think you are being green, you can act as stupid as you want, mimic a bag of hammers, flush your hard earned money down the Great Greenie Gaia crapper.
