About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Fool America once, shame on Obama. Fool America twice, shame on ....?
I just had an eye opening conversation with a friend from Northern California that is up visiting a relative. I mentioned that her president was a socialist and she said "good, I like socialism. Folks will finally get health care and the streets will be fixed..." etc etc.
We had never previously talked politics and I was quite taken aback by her words. She and her husband owned and operated a bakery for 40 years before retiring and I always assumed she was pro business and therefore a staunch republican. Turns out she is a republican, but she likes socialism too. I suppose she could be an outlier and after all it is California we are talking about here. But I doubt that she is alone in her confused thinking. She is quite typical in all other respects and likely just one of many, many more just like her. It sure doesn't look good for conservatives south of 49.
Yeah well....
I was abroad at the time but Dad said a gal phoned the local "open line" during the Trudeaumania election....that she got in the voting booth and the ballot didn't indicate which was Trudeau's man...so she had to guess....
At the time and prior...ballots indicated the candidates name and his/her occupation.
Now the ballots all reflect the party affiliation.
Sorta like resisting voter ID...a means to preserve the "stupid vote'.
Speculate how removing the party labels from the ballots would effect the outcome.
Party affiliation specified or not, I suspect name brand recognition involved in Justin Trudeau's election.
True northist, I hope you replied to her, that Americans already have health care. They pay for it as an insurance policy which they choose rather than a policy which they do not choose paid by their taxes. The result of the second option is reduced services.
And, the streets being fixed has absolutely nothing to do with socialism. It's a task by the municipality and is based on taxation operating within any mode of governance.
As for the lie about Romney's ancestors owning slaves, I suggest we'll see more of these 'leaks' as the campaign continues. This is basic Obama style; every campaign he's been in, from his early days as a senator, has been run by vicious personal attacks and leaks and lies about his opponent.
By the way, ABC, OTUS news, has a post that outlines that apparently both Romney and Obama's ancestors practiced polygamy and both were slave owners. So, how's the economy doing now?
re. TrueNorthist @1:52 - A French friend - nice girl, I genuinely like her - is a self-admitted socialist - "I am European, so zat iz 'ow I tink" - and was explaining to me recently that housewives ought to get a salary from the government.
She thinks people ought to be paid by The State for cleaning up their own pads.
From what I can tell the French education system is far superior to anything in Britain or North America. My French friend gets the general references you'd want a youngish, well-rounded person to get. Her English is great. It's just that she's a bloody commie, and she doesn't even know it.
No worries ET. I went to work on her and think I have corrected at least some of the more egregious misconceptions and fallacies she expressed. I think my master stroke was showing her a few side by side images of Frank Marshall Davis and King Barry.
What's that smell in this room? Didn't you notice it? Didn't you notice a powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity in this room?... There ain't nothin' more powerful than the odor of mendacity... You can smell it.
Worse, it looks like the stupid vote is going to get O re-elected.
TrueNorthist, yes, those two pictures of Obama's 'natural father' Davis and Obama, are quite revealing, aren't they?
Black Mamba, the thing that stuns me about socialists and the left is that it never seems to occur to them, that when they declare that 'Government must pay' this and that, whether it be a 'salary' for housewives or 'my right to have a house'...is that Government is not salaried!
A government doesn't get a salary! Its only income is from the taxpayers. So, that housewife's 'salary' would come from someone else's salaried work. The socialists and the left never seem to understand that the government is only a 'tunnel', a dark tunnel, for the passage of money from the taxpayer to someone else.
Oh, yes, I forgot. That tunnel is filled with bureaucrats who take their own 'salary' from that taxpayer money going through. Very little is left at the end. So, the government then borrows 16 trillion dollars, and tells the taxpayer's grandchildren and great grandchildren that they've got to pay it off!
Here is a potential true quote from Obama, "I can relate to blacks, my ancestors used to round them up and sell them."
Worse, it looks like the stupid vote is going to get O re-elected.

What? They are allowing you to vote in the States?
Remember, LAS is someone who believes that a zygote (a fertilized egg/sperm) is akin to a protozoan, a paramecium, ie, a one-celled organism that remains one cell and reproduces normally by fission. Heh.
He utterly ignores that the human species is not and never is a unicellular organism, for that zygote is genetically coded to develop from that egg and sperm into a multicelled organism, something that no protozoan, however filled with ideology, can do.
Chicagoland team will be using the same tricks and tactics from the ATA, Teamsters and the Leftards in Hollywood to continue dumbing-down the collective IQ of the US and all countries willing to import their drivel. Oh how the mighty have fallen...
And lets not forget that ET believes that all that programming happened out of thin air and willed itself into its own existence from the primordial ooze.
glacierman, what a trivial comment. I certainly do not believe that organized mass emerged 'out of thin air' and its own will. And I don't believe in 'primordial ooze'.
I suggest you take a hard look at basic physics, chemistry and biology and examine how both the capacity for ongoing reproductive stability (ie iconic repetition) and current metabolic adaptation (ie current interaction with other forms) emerges within complex systems.
I most certainly do not believe in a metaphysical, ie, non-material, external Agent doing all the ordering.
Do some research on complex adaptive systems. You might learn something.
So what if it turned out Romney's ancestors owned slaves?
We are not responsible for what our ancestors have done before we were even born.

I thought you were against us?
but then again I do not hang around this place all that often, I could be wrong...
Remember, ET is physically incapable of making an honest argument that addresses the point.
All the polling seems to show Romney failing to get where he needs. Obama's basically a lock.
Who did the coding?
Nobody this isn't The Matrix.
Did you folks know that phil is a farmer, but not a very good one.Thats why he always talks about the govt subsidising farmers because he thinks thats normal. He has his snout in the trough up to his eyeballs.
I had a co-worker once whose solution to every problem was 'the government should do this' or 'the government should do that' while insisting that the government should lower taxes by borrowing money. I could not convince him that government cannot borrow every year without severe consequences in the future. Needless to say he was an ardent Liberal supporter.
I propose a simple questionnaire at the voting booth. There should be a few questions about the platforms of the parties but the 1st question should be.
1) Where does the government get it's money from?
Fail this question and you get sent home and your ballot is destroyed.
"welfare bum government worker. "
It's not welfare if you have to work for your money, Harkov.
But you'd know that if you ever had a job.
The most compelling argument against democracy is a 5 minute conversation with the average voter.
Or too stupid to be elected to govern: http://dailycaller.com/2012/09/10/schumer-tempted-to-eat-delicious-laundry-detergent/
LAS, how can one be 'physically incapable of making an honest argument that addresses the point'? Don't you mean cognitively incapable? There's no such thing as a 'physical argument' though there is certainly 'physical interpretation of data input'.
Rizwan, in answer to your question of 'who did the coding', the answer is that matter self-organizes itself. I'd suggest that you google the term 'self-organization'; you'll find lots of material. You can see how order emerges spontaneously and then becomes a 'normative habit' enabling both stability of form and continuity of type.
The point about self-organized matter is that it is far more adaptive to informational input from its surroundings than matter that is organized by an external agent (ie, a machine). The function of form (morphology) is to prevent the entropic dissipation of matter; self-organized matter is the best tactic to prevent entropy.
Al in Ottawa, what a perfect question. It ought to be a basic question and discussion in every school, college and university.
"So what if it turned out Romney's ancestors owned slaves?
We are not responsible for what our ancestors have done before we were even born."
Seriously? I think the rest of the fake quote is important as well.
"Who did the coding"
Basic chemistry and basic physics my friend. And chance. If you want to argue for a creator, argue that He created chemistry and physics and maybe even that he has a hand in chance. But don't argue that life forming, and then evolving from those basic elements isn't possible, because it most certainly is.
"Remember, ET is physically incapable of making an honest argument that addresses the point.

While I may disagree(and I do) on some of ET's points, she does make good points. LAS and Rizwan, the point is,the zygote,(and gamete)made you.So your coding is? Or did you not take biology in school?
Pols pols pols .... funny how the justice department threatened to investigate Gallup because they were reporting such bad results for the Chicago jesus. The one REASON all the polls this week are trending up for the ZERO is because ALL the democrat TV ads have been cylcling non-stop for the last week. The direct cause and effect is the realtionship between stupid people watching TV and stupid people answering pols.
Got that? The common factor is stupidity.....
You'd be hard pressed to find anyone dumber than these libsimps who keep defending their general kindred.
You can tell by the tenor of the comments what their usual MSM sources have been telling them to think for the last day or so.
That's also the smell you detect truenorthist.
"that life forming, and then evolving from those basic elements isn't possible, because it most certainly is"
Prove it.
Personally I think social media is the very best place to find people too stupid to vote - next to a DNC that is.
TrueNorthist, obviously your friend has never seen the streets nor the selective medical care in the countries that have had socialism for decades.
Michael Savage says that "Liberalism is a mental illness".
So Romney is related to one of the Founding Fathers? was George Washington - he owned slaves....
Ken (Kulak) at September 10, 2012 8:19 PM
I gave her the full tour today and will be following up tomorrow with some further evidence of exactly what you refer to. She will be heading back to wonderland with a new and much more accurate version of reality.
TrueNorthist, good for you. All too many people are deluded by the words of the utopian vision and know not what they ask for.
I wished my ancestors owned slaves so that I could relate to black people better myself.
I just don’t get all the rap crap, never did.
Mitt Romneys father George Romney who was president of AMC was born in Mexico and his grandfather had beenn there for a long time also.I don t think I can recall Mormons ever owning slaves and certainly not in Mexico.Just more slander from the Demorats.
Black folk judge people by the colour of their skin, not the content of their character, this isn't going to change their votes
I'm certain if you research slavery in Indonesia and Kenya, Obama may have an entire cornucopia of slave holders as ancestors.
Woops, messed that one up
Chris, it is important to remember that George Washington freed his slaves.
"At age eleven he inherited ten slaves from his father. By the end of Washington's life, over three-hundred African-American slaves lived at Mount Vernon."
"Washington's attitude towards slavery changed as he grew older and especially as he fought for liberty in the Revolution. He emancipated his slaves in his will and his estate paid pensions to the older African Americans for decades."
from gwpapers.virginia.edu/project/faq/index.html
ET, what did the first life form on Earth eat? All single cell organisms that I know of feed on decaying organic matter. Since the beginning of life, as stated by Darwinists, is the first organism on Earth it follows that there is no organic debris for it to eat. There would only be minerals, water and air. There would be no humus in the soil, the water would only have salt and trace minerals in it.
So your theory is that matter self-arranged into nucleotides and nucleosides which arranged themselves into a working DNA inside a cell wall that magically just arranged itself at the same time and there was also a mitochondria that spontaneously self arranged and all this happened on a piece of mineral that was edible to this organism? That is a string of astronomically long shots that all have to occur simultaneously in order for your theory to work. Were I placing a bet, I'd put my money on God.
Black folk judge people by the colour of their skin, not the content of their character, this isn't going to change their votes
Oh lovely the guys with holes in their bedsheets turn up.

Best leave the science to scientists. Bacteria can and are found in rocks miles into the earth. They can feed on anything. "Organic" does not imply "living". You can have organic material formed without life. You may as well place your bet on Sheeba.
Joe-K at 8:16 PM
disprove it!!!
U religious nut cases are as bad as lieberals
LAS >
Yea, there you go again belittling poor people who can't afford new sheets.
"Best leave the science to scientists." – LOL
I heard that scientists used to say that the earth was flat, and that today camel farts in Saudi Arabia are melting the ice caps.
You should in turn leave religion to the religious'tists – what?
NO you prove it! or disprove it!
How the hell did a post about the widespread dissemination of a fake Romney quote devolve into a pointless, completely OT chat-room argument about single-cell organisms and the origins of life of the planet...
It's really quite an amazing thing.
EBD >
It was something about LAS eating or smoking organics and counting black people jumping over a fence as he goes to sleep every night.
Apparently it’s the Liberal thing to do when you’re disseminating a fake Romney quote.
