The New York Times public editor, on fleeing the hive....

Across the paper’s many departments, though, so many share a kind of political and cultural progressivism — for lack of a better term — that this worldview virtually bleeds through the fabric of The Times.

As a result, developments like the Occupy movement and gay marriage seem almost to erupt in The Times, overloved and undermanaged, more like causes than news subjects.

And the sniffy response.

it would have been more consistant if it had been published that there was NO bias, the truth forn an MSM lie sheet is so out of character!!!!

After nobly providing cover for the NYT for two years, this stout hearted individual on their way out finally recognizes the truth about the NYT. A real model of journalistic integrity and fortitude.

And he is promptly castigated by the NYT executive editor Jill Abramson. The NYT is perfect, these liberal editors are keeping the paper straight.

And Pinch's newspaper continues to lose readers and money. I wonder why?

Disciplined and fair when they vet Ann Romney's horse during a Presidential campaign, but otherwise not so much? He may have to step a little farther back...

In other news, the sky is blue!!!

Americas CBC without the massive govt. mandated public pick-pocketing like here in Canada. There must be a stupid idiot leftie factory somewhere, oh I forgot it is the school system, or maybe the union halls, or is it the universities. They are to stupid to acknowledge they are stupid, or as Michael Cambell said "they don't know what they don't even know".

Let's hope he put extra bleach in the bath when he washed himself clean of the NYT smell.

The left is notorious for it's misuse of words. They label themselves as progressives but the proper term would be regressives. Whenever you see or hear the word progressive, inject the word regressive.

From my uneducated perspective, I would say the advent of the miracle of the "internet" for the masses has removed the MSM "gatekeepers" forever!

CBC, Lefty Canadian taxpayer funded, gatekeeping commie mouthpiece!

What say you Terry Milewski and Christina Lewand at CBC?
Tony Burman now at AL-jazeera formerly at CBC?

"...also noted two years ago that I had taken up the public editor duties believing “there is no conspiracy” and that The Times’s output was too vast and complex to be dictated by any Wizard of Oz-like individual or cabal. I still believe that, but also see that the hive on Eighth Avenue is powerfully shaped by a culture of like minds — a phenomenon, I believe, that is more easily recognized from without than from within..."

The same problem as with the CBC, in a nutshell.

Is there a link between insanity and big cities or is it just coincidence?

That's why the comment of the New Yorker's late film critic Pauline Kael continues to resonate across the decades:

“Pauline Kael famously commented, after the 1972 Presidential election, ‘I live in a rather special world. I only know one person who voted for Nixon. Where they are I don’t know. They’re outside my ken. But sometimes when I’m in a theater I can feel them.’”

One of the things I despise about the left is that they are rarely able to cleanly admit they were wrong about something. Indeed I am sure most of the leftists at the New York times would still have enormous difficulty admitting that Mugabe was a mistake.

kent, "They label themselves as progressives but the proper term would be regressives." Well yes, this is true, but actually I am sure you are aware that the term "progressive" is a code word actually meaning socialist. Some socialists are more radical than others, but the end result is the same.

"Across the paper’s many departments, though, so many share a kind of political and cultural progressivism "

This is pure (Ingsoc/Amsoc) left-speak - the translation basically admits the paper is a propaganda tool for American socialism, to the point of Anti-Americanism - because in core value, their morbid plutocrat socialism is at odds with American constitutional principle.

So essentially the failure of these "political-cultural progressivist" propaganda rags is the result of Americans voting with their patronage/dollar as to the validity of socialist ethic in their personal philosophy. It seems they are rejecting it.

- And these media socialists can’t deflect that fact by saying people are just not reading or whatever because subscribership to traditional American republican media has never been higher (even Michael Savage has more daily listeners than Times subscribers). So in essence the lie that Americans embrace socialism is just that - a lie. From my viewpoint there is an organic backlash towards decades of creeping socialism and that could turn into a revolution depending how draconian the current socialist regime gets in attacking organic republicanism by abusing the 1st, 2nd and 10th amendments.

Indeed. It is obvious that lefties do tend to ghettoize themselves with the result that they generally assume their views/values are ther majority.

Conservatives are generally very tolerant, sterling character, open minded cosmo-politan realists....except to those menace their safety/lifestyle.

I believe it is well-known that high population density leads to lifestyle specialization. For example, an individual who derives sexual pleasure from being defecated on would traditionally be an isolated pervert in a small town, but would be able to join a subculture of poo targets in a city with a large enough population to contain multiple people with such a proclivity. [Interesting question: Has social media technology permanently changed society by allowing every weirdo to find a subculture of kindred spirits?] That explains the support in big cities for things like changing the definition of marriage.

Also, there does seem to be a propensity of politicians to want to build monuments to themselves rather than to ensure basic services. There just seems to be more enthusiasm among city pols to pass bond measures to pay for The Mayor Wingding Center for the Performing Arts or Councilman Tax-And-Spend's Sports Arena than for paying for a competent police force or for reliable electricity or for waste disposal.

Confirmation bias is practiced by everyone, not just lefties. Some say the internet makes it worse ...

Confirmation Bias?

Do tell! Oh do tell ..... for no one here has EVER considered such a thing.

Please do explain how this works....
