Hill Times, deputy editor’s note:

Ms. Leslie did not tell The Hill Times “What is this massive marketing machine that the PMO is driving? What do they seek? What message do they want people to see—this sort of macho guy who’s not going to pay attention to the rules?” or “They loved that. There’s no chance in 100 years that wasn’t entirely planned. Stephen Harper doesn’t do unplanned.” Ms. Leslie also did not tell The Hill Times that riding an ATV is "very controversial" because it is not safe for children.

She also did not say that “People gripe about the price of gas being too high, but they’re prepared to buy a vehicle and fill it with gas for letting their kids ride around in ways that are unsafe,” nor did she say “Definitely he cares about opening up oil and gas and mining, and there is this kind of macho thing, he likes to be seen on an ATV or a snowmobile, taking off, driving off in places he’s not supposed to go.”

All of those quotes should be attributed to Ms. May.

More from Ezra - The media party must be bored.

But Leslie basically agrees with them all,she likely wishes they were her quotes.
Megan Leslie is a young Libby Davies without the bulk.

Ah the sweet sound of the braying of jackasses. The modern ATV, with four wheels, is safe, as the hundreds of Newfs who ride them all summer and much of the winter attest.

PMSH does seem to be a Newf wannabee at time :-)

and and he wuz driving a riceburner ATV, damn those jap-a-kneez

some one should tell those windbags to STFU and work at running the country and not their yaps

Well thank the heavens, that PM Stephen Harper didn't ride up on Sea-Doo in a wet suit...! These incompetents would have mistaken him for PM Stockwell Day. Well at least the Treasury is in good hands.

I will be waiting for the rewrites on the dangers of Sea-Doos, Ski-Doos and the horrid nasty corporation that makes them Bombardier.

And exactly what is wrong with companies and people making a profit to support themselves and their families. As if these cretins are going to suggest the Eskimos take up vegetable farming north of 60.

Cheers

Nuametz has his knickers in knots again. That article is extremely difficult to follow. Can't wait til someone at the Sun gets the real story, and discusses the fun of 4-wheeling as a great Canadian past time.
If Dalton hadn't messed us up, we might be building more 4 wheelers in Ontario...that's the real story.

They really do hate this country don't they?

"The Green Party leader said riding an ATV is “very controversial” because it is not safe for children. “People gripe about the price of gas being too high, but they’re prepared to buy a vehicle and fill it with gas for letting their kids ride around in ways that are unsafe,” Ms. May said."

How did May get to be so stupid? Does she not know that Harper is over 16? And that he isn't juggling knives?

The Carcross desert is about as 'sensitive' as a dead rat skin. The word 'pristine' is used to describe the Yukon by the territory's traitorous new imports (unca mo' soreass agenda 21 people haters) and imported NDP's brought in with real Yukoner's $$ (we used to have a surplus here when we mined and logged) after the fateful election of Tony Pinkett (Pennicut) and his trough hogs. What would Lizzy say about Tony Pinkett paying for a new dipper gument gal transported up here with all her family and goods, on the taxpayers dime, her horse came up here on a truck? How much gas did it use to bring that horse 4000 miles?

What does Lizzy say about all the gument buildings running an air cooling system in all their holes all 'poor sledding' (spring/summer) season (never above 25C all year and only four or five days above 20C). I saw gument worker's desks with electric heaters running in July!

I know Dippers who ride the dunes in Carcross on ATV's, if Lizzy or Megen want names....

What a responsible opposition would be calling for is the $$ spent on waste in the Yukon, the destruction of the historic down towns of Whitehorse and Dawson City and the unsightly erection of shoddy condos to mar the 'pristine' skyline. The billion $$ 'dock' on the Yukon river in Whitehorse that is ugly, flat, treeless and useless - one big ugly slab of concrete jutting out into the river - they cut down all the trees around the area. All $$ from gument Fed transfers...Oh! wait most of those Fed Dippers are from Kebec, the Queen province of 'gimme, gimme' - that type of criticism could be seen as , dare I say it?,..'hypocriticalacious'.

My Yukon did not dictate, my Yukon was free and Yukoners were independent individuals - the Lizzy/Dipper Yukon is as grey and terrible as Siberia in Stalin's heyday.

Pissy-pants urnalism at it's finests, I give up on the NP it's starting to look like the PR arm of the NDP.

"Ah the sweet sound of the braying of jackasses."

Well said John. Not much difference between Leslie and May and they both have two legs.

This basically an MSM "the puppy sh*t on the rug" story
and that's all we shall cover, la-la-la, can't hear you.

As for the "ninny nannys", god they make me sick.
.

The Hill Times either suspended the comments thread or blocked me and all I asked them was...Do you folks wear mouse ears to your staff meetings?...

Jema54 at 5:25. Pass those names on to Ezra Levant, and see if he can contact them for their opinion on the PM riding an ATV in the desert. Make them either lie about their own riding or disagree with ther socialist bretheren (or sisteren, or whatever the term would be).
That's the type of story that Ezra would jump at.

Harper should have done a wheelie with 20 foot rooster tail just for Lizzy May. Frickin' sea-going mammal that she is.

Soon, very soon

the socialist aristocrats will question the PM about lunch and they will object to what he eats, what ever it is.

Then the will insist that they know where the PM goes to the bathroom, if it is recycling set up and if not he will be blamed for going.

Then he will have some sleep at night, they will question if he sleeps with open window, if the sheets are approved by the environ/mentalists and if the actual room is to their satisfaction.
If not they will tell their mass media press agents and object.
The mass media will breathlessly print and broadcast the travesty and blame the PM for whatever.

The question remains, will the plebeians go along with it or not.
The answer is, the plebeians will never know because the mass media press agents for the socialists will only report the story as something the conservative PM obviously should not do.
What he should not do? Whatever, does not matter.

Further to wallyj's and Ken (Kulak)'s comments, I'm still puzzled by the clarification offered: I'm sorry, but I still can discern no distance between Megan Leslie and Elizabeth Alone, and not Queen.

Here are some ideas, though:

1. Elizabeth May combs her hair once in a while?

2. They're from opposite coasts (do opposites attract, or something?)?.

3. Megan Leslie use contact lenses?

All of those quotes should be attributed to MORONS chasing their tails!!

Just beyond stupid whoever said it.

If Ms. May complains about Harper being "macho" (I thought he was "robotic" and "unfeeling"), am I allowed to suggest she's suffering from feminine hysterics?

Jeez, the retraction was longer than the story. And more informative.

Harper is turning into quite the renaisance man!

Macho controlling emotionless wild and crazy guy ignore the rules robot!
With a hidden agenda, of course.

Jema54 makes a good point. The North is chock-full of Quebecois and those from south of 60 with a socialist mindset. For some reason their point of view about the environment or what have you tends to predominate.

One wonders why the reporter, Tim Naumetz made a point of twice mentioning that the ATVs were made in Japan? This fact was not at all relevant to the story, was it? Perhaps Mr. Naumetz has some lingering hatred (a popular word with the Media Party these days) towards people of Japanese ancestry. One wonders if the Human Wrongs Commission should be contacted to help him deal with his prejudices?!

I resent the May-natee being referred to as a 'Leader' of anything. She is an independent. No more, no less. To lead any party in the House you have to have followers.

Even though the racist guy who hates Japanese things says it's made in Japan, it might be made in the U.S.

http://www.atvtv.com/atv11-Spec-Where.html

If it had been one made by Bombardier, it should have been free because the federal government probably has paid for it twice over already.

Haven't any of these fascist commie types taken an economics course. Comparative advantage says we are better off buying quads from Japan and doing what we do best, hewing wood and drawing water.

Any word yet on the exact brand of ATV Harper was riding? Somebody tell me it was a Suzuki...

"sensitive environmental area"?

Sheesh! It's a pile of sand, no more, no less. Fact is, vegetation will eventually overtake and smother those dunes, unless ATV riders keep the sand stirred up. In general sand dunes are an ephemeral phenomenon, and not a permanent feature of the landscape.

Rabbit, I noticed that also.

btw, regarding "Canadian made", its a term only used by politicians. Show me something where all the raw materials were mined, processed, assembled, packaged, shipped, assembled into larger components, shipped again, assembled into the final product --- all done in Canada, and I'll show you something made in 1895.

Since then, I got my doubts.

" On top of that, Mr. Harper’s handlers and trip advance planners chose to rent—at $200 a day each—two Japanese-made ATVs for the brief photo opportunity when Whitehorse boasts among its recreational dealerships one that sells Montreal-made Bombardier ATVs."

What was the point of that statement?

The gov't should have bought a couple instead?

Is this Naumetz guy auditioning for a spot on the cbc staff?

I know Harper does things once and while that annoys the libertarian side of a conservative. That said could you see what Canada would look like if Layton, Dion and the French guy would have pulled off their coup.

Just think about it Prime Minister Elizabeth May. Good lord my Golden Retriever is smarter.

I'm willing to bet better looking and doesn't shit where it eats either...

Yamaha, looks like a Grizzly.
A fine choice.
Unless you're into race based purchasing...

Jema54

Very enjoyable read. Thanks for the stress relief!!

Hans. I think they were actually hoping for a Stockwell Day moment. That was the whole point of their "outrage."

Can somebody please ask Lizzie May why it's OK for her to be a member of parliament with less than half the votes in her riding, but it's wrong for Harper to be PM with less than half the seats in the house?

The "progressives" are going crazy with the idea that PMSH could end up being the longest-serving PM; that he is currently the international senior statesman; and, despite the so-called polling, is the person Canadians most trust when it comes to actually voting.

Harper upset their Mo Strong, Paul Martin gone green watermelon takeover of the country as a template for world government. Sir Paul was going to prance into Copenhagen, with Maurice and the rent seekers, to declare the climate saved with Kyoto, carbon credits and oh, boy carbon taxes. Then philosopher King Michael was to ordain our ascent into carbon neutrality.

Instead they're stuck with Bob Rae.

Harper put a stop to that, at least in Canada; and probably hurt the overall UN climate cause. They (the watermelons, the ones not quite so red on the inside but definitely money green on the outside) hate him for it, more than true Grits or Dippers ever could.

Good job Prime Minister, keep 'em roiling.

I make all my purchases based solely on irony...

I don't know of any other way to put this. Ms. May Ms Leslie and the media party can go (expletive deleted) themselves. ATV riding in the North is a way of life. I don't question them when they run around Toronto driving their status symbol Prius or BMW's. They can damn well mind their own business as to what ATV we purchase up North.

I dunno, where would you rent an ATV from if you were in Whitehorse?

Does YukonHonda even rent their Bombardier built Can-Am ATVs?
They are a Bombardier dealer, but you'd hardly know that from their website, all there is is a link to BRP, which for those in the know stands for Bombardier Recreational Products.
At first look they appear to simply be a Honda dealer, unless you know what BRP means.
You wouldn't want to rent from those evil furriners who build Hondas, would you?
I suppose a Suzuki ATV should have been the next choice for Harper, because of David and all that...

(This of course took me days of work and tens of thousands of dollars in time and education to discover.
Er, not.)

NDP backed trade unions have ensured that Canadian made ATV'S will not be competitive in price per unit.

Hard to find affordable Canadian made anything when union workers with a grade 9 and 10 education make over $30.00 bucks an hour ( with full benefits) to do a job they do in Japan for a third of the price while turning out 3x as many units.

A Yamaha Grizzly was quite likely made in Newman, Georgia.

Wow, they sure are trying vainly to find fault with Stephen Harper.

First off, what controversy about ATVs? I have been to some places where there are more ATVs than pickups. The simple fact is that every mode of transportation has it's dangers. Horses will kick or throw you, you can fall off a bicycle, planes and cars crash and ATVs and snowmobiles can too. The only people who complain about ATVs are city slickers, in my experience.

Second, why mention that the imported ATVs were rented and that there is a Bombardier ATV retailer nearby? Does Naumetz think that PMSH should have bought 2 new ATVs at $8,000 plus a pop rather than spending $400 for one day? I wouldn't want such a spendthrift having anything to do with the federal budget.

Massive marketing machine? It must be hiding behind the 'scary conservative agenda'.

'...they're prepared to buy a vehicle and fill it with gas for letting their kids ride around in ways that are unsafe," Ms. May said.
So Lizzie are you accusing the PM of child endangerment? Where I come from, a man who gives his kids an ATV with a full tank is the world's most awesome DAD!
It's called fun, Ms. May. You should try it some time.

Sensitive ecology? How the heck can you harm sand? The pine trees in the photo look fine and any CO2 that they get they use the carbon to make cellulose to build themselves bigger and stronger. Regarding how 'sensitive' an environment is, here's a simple test - run your ATV into a tree at 30mph and see who is more sensitive, you with your brittle bones or the tree with a trunk that we use to build houses with. I'll guarantee you that a 50 year old tree will beat a 50 year old man every time.

"The message I get is this is a government that completely stripped our environmental laws of any meaning or any usefulness..." What! The conservatives passed Bill C-472 "An Act to Rape the Earth" and I missed it?

Then we come to the question of whether the PMO's office sought permission from the local Indian tribe, because surely while rampaging across the pristine desert he must have been offending the first nations too, by doing doughnuts on a sacred burial ground and taking a skull to make a cereal bowl from it.

All I have read here are three opposition MPs whining to a reporter who is obviously practicing for his next job at the CBC.

Posted by: syncrodox at August 23, 2012 10:11 PM

You would be right on both counts.

Whether its from one bitch or another .....it is still bitch bitch bitch.

Where is the apology to PMSH?

The only beef I have with ATV's is that so many people locally seem to think they can be ridden anywhere and roll their ATV's. Summer is ATV rollover season in ER which, I suppose, is a nice change from the winter geriatric hip fracture season and fall Albertan's hurrying to get home smashup season. But then, the orthopods make a good living on these people and I get a slice of the pie being called in to deal with non-orthopedic issues. I do have conversations with patients about how to calculate the center of gravity of an ATV and passenger and where that center of gravity should be when descending a steep hill.

Now driving an ATV on mainly flat sand is no big deal and I think PMSH should have dispensed with the helmet as it makes him look far too nanny statish. The outrage over someone driving on non-destroyable sand is truly something to behold from the MSM and they wonder why no-one pays any attention to them anymore.

As usual, Ezra totally destroys the MSM moonbats and it's so nice to see for a change.

Great comments here tonight. True Canadian sarcasm. this Tim Naumetz comes across as an idiot.

All Bombardier (Can-am) ATV's are made in Juarez Mexico. But why would you let details get in the way of a good hack piece.

I think we should reduce inessential imports from the US.

Cheers

Al_in_Ottawa .... well said!

I am still amazed at the depths to which PMSH's detractors will descend and the degree of triviality deployed to demonize the man. If this is the best they've got, then we're in pretty good shape with Harper at the helm.

As for Lizzie May ... every time that she makes a statement, she comes across as even more stupid than the time before. Just when you think she's reached the apex of stupidity, she digs a little deeper and surpasses her previous mark. To think that May is an MP as well as an ignorant, continually outraged buffoon says volumes about her constituents.

And yes ... the helmet is rather nanny statish but that is preferable to having PMSH going sans helmet and being accused of enticing thousands of young children to do likewise.

Sadly, there are still a few Canadians who will read this crap and picture the Prime Minister as an uncaring ogre creating mayhem and destruction in a delicate ecosystem while riding a foreign made machine. On the bright side, the number of Canadians who buy into this type of trash is rapidly dwindling.
