Conservative, like progressive is a poorly understood and misused term.

Remember the attempted "conservative" coup against Gorbachev in the old USSR? They were hard core communists ideologically, not conservatives. No, far from it - they wanted a return to the "traditional" USSR. IOW they didn't want change.

That doesn't mean conservatives aren't progressives too, who, while not agreeing with revolutionary change, are certainly fine with progress.

IOW conservative can mean traditionalists who like things the way they are, resist change for whatever their reasons, such as maintenance of their privilege and societal standing.

Ask a "progressive" if we should roll back socialism and you will get a "conservative" response. Progressives have no problem increasing the size of the state and decreasing the citizen's influence in the process.

It just suits "progressives" to think of anyone who doesn't like big government as a "conservative." They are conservative in their view that any rollback of the welfare state is undesireable, or "extreme." Ideological conservatives have altogether different views.

I have to admit that the quality of trolls is vastly improved of late. We used to have to wade through unintelligible drivel from the likes of 'new' and attempt to figure out what the hell he just said. The Taliban are Pashtun, the majority(normative) ethnic group(tribe) in Afghanistan.

If the Taliban are "ultra-conservative", then how can they be spouting a "radical" view of Islam? It would seem Islam is indeed a very violent religion -- so much for the "religion of peace".
In the same way that, by observation, the ultra-conservative Christian sects such as the Amish, Hutterites and old-order Mennonites are very pacifist, the ultra-conservative Muslim sects are very violent. One more reason liberals should object to the immigration of Muslims.
