Let’s Erect A Plaque At 787 Dundas St W To Remember Jack Layton

Oops!

The federal New Democrats returned more than $340,000 in advertising revenue received over six years following a Conservative party complaint to Elections Canada about union logos at a Vancouver policy convention, the Star has learned.

The Star obtained internal party documents showing the federal NDP returned a total of $344,468 — including GST — in advertising revenues from eight unions and seven other organizations, received at three separate policy conventions. The funds were returned in April and May.

The amount includes $40,860 at the 2006 convention in Quebec City, $102,500 from the 2009 convention in Halifax and $201,108 at the Vancouver convention last year.

Elections Canada said earlier this year the NDP had violated political financing laws by accepting an unspecified amount in sponsorships from unions at the Vancouver convention in June 2011, saying those sponsorships fall under the rules that ban donations from unions and corporations.

Of course, the Star headline blames the Conservatives.

So the national director of the NDP is named Nathan Rotman...how appropriate...

I think that there may be more to this story.

Remember the problem with the NDP soliciting donations for the Broadbent Institute on the cooling corpse of Jack. They got their wrists slapped for that one.
However, one of the companies that had money returned in the latest NDP malfeasance is the ' Douglas-Coldwell Foundation'. This foundation raises money for the Broadbent Institute on the now cold corpse of Jack. They are still doing it today.

One possible scenario is that they raise money on Jack, then they funnel this money to the NDP. This allows NDP supporters to contribute more than the allowable limit to the party.

Farfetched, well maybe. First you have to believe that the DCF would use Jack's passing to raise funds. OK,they do.

Then, you would have to believe that the DCF would funnel money to the NDP illegally. OK,they did.

It would be very interesting to compare the DCF's donors to the NDP donor list, and the amounts donated along with the amount that Elections Canada ordered returned to the DCF.

If the Conservatives don't complain, is it legal? Is that what I'm reading here...?

Ever notice how the far left always, always, always sticks together.

It's easier when no principles are involved.

And yes, marc in calgary, that IS what you're reading here.

'Anyone else think that under the Lib$, with help from the Dipper$ (that's for sure) and their media sycophants, Canada was fast becoming a Banana Republic?

The only party standing between our becoming a full-blown BR is the Conservative Party of Canada. They're slowly but surely, with no fanfare and a lot of opprobrium from the usual suspects -- no good deed goes unpunished -- returning Canada to some semblance of sanity and good government.

God bless Prime Minister Harper and the CPC.

No problem, just tell them to deposit it back in our unions' slush funds.
We will figure out a work around by the time the Frenchman or some
Occupy commies need it. You said it brother, keep the faith.
.

As always this will prove to be the tip of the ice berg.
The various Soros, Strong and Rockefeller funded entities funnel money to their favorite political entities as well as trying to influence the implementation of our own resources for our own benefit so they can ruin Canada and any sovereign
country for their UN aims and benefit.
The more we know and the greater light is shone on these scurring insects the better able we are to end their influence and ensure our freedom from this insidious intrusion on our country and our lives as a free people.

batb - I was skimming your comment and misread it, forcing me to take a second look. How long, you think, before some of the looney left start talking about how global warming will make Canada warm enough that we CAN grow bananas? Since we're the ones that like freedom, obviously we should join with them to keep Canada cold and welcome back the ice sheets, so as to avoid the heinous fate of becoming a banana republic, right?

And the scary part is that I haven't put any good stuff in my coffee yet, so that was me thinking sober thoughts!

And let us not forget that the most dangerous fiscal fact facing us directly now and for the foreseeable future is Public Sector Unions salaries and benefits and pensions.

They are extremely rich for the those who have secured them on the backs of taxpayers who have no hope of ever realizing such rich pensions but have spent years of paying for them for others.

Government is to do our bidding and govern in ways the people cannot. To do otherwise is to betray the trust placed in them to govern wisely and well.

With the fiscal reality comes abject poverty for those who do not and cannot obtain those rich salaries and benefits and pensions.

And with abject poverty comes social collapse.
Who will pay those rich pensions then?
Once the golden goose is dead there is no more golden egg for anyone.

These things must be brought under control and faced.

In my view Public Sector Unions must be ended for the good of all. If you are in the public sector there is no such thing as collective bargaining for there is only one taxpayer.

While our politicians crab and grab over real initiatives to supply real economic prosperity, thereby ensuring our tax base will become smaller and smaller they refuse in any way to address this real and present threat.

And when we talk of Public Sector Unions I include Politicians at all levels of government. They do not deserve a pension richer than that of those who pay for theirs.

For the libs and nippers they care not where the money comes from for their party, as long as they survive to fight us another day.

The ONLY light shining on these nefarious shenanigans is the one coming from our Conservative government.

There will be 2 moons in the sky tonight. The mere fact, mere fact, that the RedStar published this story is a sign of the end times. For stupid lefties only. More good times ahead people.

Yes, but I note the timing of this article, and the revelation on Friday that Lieberals were guilty of misleading and illegal robocalls keep the story below the radar, and hopefully the press will be able to move onto the true story, how Harper is evil, and drove a Japanese ATV all over a fragile ecosystem, or some such twaddle.

"Of course, the Star headline blames the Conservatives."

What?

Conservatives weren't sharp enough to use the Crimestoppers line? :)

What a conundrum, a story that seems too good to be true but posted in the Red TorStar. What to believe...

I found this interesting comment at National Newswatch,a comment from an article by Warren Kinsella, about the exploitation of the dead, really dead,Saint Jack Layton

"First and foremost what mattered to Layton was his own ego. Some of us who worked with him often witnessed his insatiable craving for exposure. Once he pushed aside a staffer being interviewed by the press with the remark; "You don't need the exposure, - I do". Not a very attractive personality behind the scenes."

I wonder how many other scenes of JL showing his real personality are out there, but being carefully kept secret lest the "rat" be excommunicated from the Church of Saint Jack.

batb, 2:23p.m. -- That would be my take as well.

As I see it, pointing out a couple of important differences between this episode and the In/Out stuff is in order:

1. In/Out required the repayment of about $230,000 in individual riding subsidies by the Conservatives (representing about 18% of the total amount -- $1.3 million -- transferred), as opposed to the NDP repayment (which represented effectively 100% of the $344,000 improperly transferred).

2. Notice the escalation over time of the abuse by the NDP. In/Out, on the other hand, applied only to the 2006 election campaign.

3. The NDP was using other people's money (surprise, surprise; in this case the unions' and its' members, the latter of whom have no choice about paying union dues from whence the improperly transferred funds undoubtedly came), whereas the Conservatives were using their own money (surplus in the fund, over and above permitted national election expenditures). That tells you a lot right there about the funding base and legitimacy of the federal parties.

4. Perhaps most interestingly, In/Out led the Conservatives' EDAs to claim something in the order of $650,000 to $780,000 in riding campaign subsidies, of which they only had to repay $230,000. That says pretty clearly that the settlement was a saw-off, and one that clearly favoured the Conservatives by the numbers (and I note that the Conservatives had to admit no guilt in the matter). This isn't something the NDP can claim.

Great to be born Tory!

I have no respect for EC, not a drop when it's a leftwing political party violating their laws it's a mistake and when Cons do it it's a crime.

Gee, I must have missed it when the NDP head office was raided by the RCMP and EC officials while the CBC cameras were rolling. I also missed charges and fines being laid by EC. In truth EC have the credibility of the CBC and need a total house cleaning.

Wanna bet the money never made it back to the unions,we wouldn't know cause CRA and EC would be forbidden to mess with union finances...

Campaign finance rules are a breach of free speech and must be abolished!

And Unions should have to open their books and pay taxes on all contributions.

A glimpse of Dipper ideological hypocrisy. They rant against capitalism and materialism but you’d be hard pressed to find a more avaricious, grasping lot of losers. If they ever get near the levers of power hide your savings. Never forget the primary premise of socialism is theft.

OK - I've had enough of this $hit! Lets just rename it "787 DUMMASS ST.W. so that it reflects what he guy was really all about. OK?

If people think the Dippers or Libels have a monopoly on political misdirection they are dangerously naive. The Conservatives have a base which has been prepared to donate funds which the other two have to a much lesser degree. Unfortunately most political movements have a goodly number of people who are there to get what they can from it. Our good friend Rahim from Edmonton is an example. Oh, let us not forget the CPC flunky who had his girlfriend bidding on selling water filters to the native reserves.

My point here is that unless the party has an internal review process that can weed these people out then the 'game' goes on. My experience is that none of the leading parties have that ability.

dmorris: I'm guessing that was at Gretzky's in Toronto when he shoved another individual out of the way when the TV camera zoomed in. The guy was a fraud, interested only in self-promotion. I wonder if we'll see that in the CBC's paean to Jack?
