Is Newsweek Singing From a New Hymnbook?

In what may be a first for Newsweek, they're publishing an article that is ... wait for it ... critical of the Left's Messiah, Barack Obama. Evil Blogger Lady explains.

Writer Niall Ferguson goes through the promises that Obama made in the 2008 presidential election campaign and then explains that he has broken many of them.

There's also an excellent analysis of Paul Ryan. One paragraph in particular encapsulated the enormous difference between Obama & co. and Ryan:

But one thing is clear. Ryan psychs Obama out. This has been apparent ever since the White House went on the offensive against Ryan in the spring of last year. And the reason he psychs him out is that, unlike Obama, Ryan has a plan—as opposed to a narrative—for this country.

Update: Paul Krugman's head just exploded!   h/t 'rabbit'

And while you may want to wear gloves while you do it, we should all buy this copy of Newsweek.

Even Newsweek is seeing the handwriting on wall...?

Ze plan iss, vee haf no plan...!

3 years without a budget clearly indicates that the Obama-Nation(tm) is directionless and leaderless.

I'm _not_ real comfortable with suggesting that 'we' should all go out and buy a copy of Newsweek, but I'm going to try to remember were it is one might go to buy dead tree pubs and see if I can pick up a copy?
.

Yep...when the rubber hit's the road Newsweek must sell copies.....that's what buys the potatoes.

It is a good article by Ferguson and I like he got the cover, but Newsweak is still the same. They just want to sell some copy. Tina Brown's flying monkeys Frum and Sullivan will be out tomorrow to go after Romney/Ryan as usual.

And here is Politico (for example) trying to make something out of nothing over some Republican congressman swimming in the Sea of Galilee on a fact finding trip (one of them was skinny dipping):

The FBI looked into the matter and said there was nothing to see.

That FBI finding absolutely crushed Congressman Yoeder.

To even suggest Obama has no plan for America is most niave at best. He sure does have a plan that is very radical and not for the betterment of the US. Obama and his cronnies have their blueprint laid out, don't kid yourselves.

Obama's "plan" "worked". I take him at his word on that one.

THis ought to go up as one of the wonders of the World in print.

Buy a copy of Newsweak? Why? I already picked up a 24 pack of butt wipe!

On the assumption that they haven't changed their political allegiances, the only strategy I can think of at work is that they're trying to stir up their base of Devout Leftists to rise up and defend their Messiah.

Unfortunately for them, facts are difficult to defeat.

Perhaps the owners of Newsweek are tired of running a left-wing charity, and decided to print articles Americans are interested in reading.

Or someone hacked their system.

I'll belive the dino media's death bed conversion is complete when Time mag runs a picture of BamBam's real daddy under this caption: "Much too late for President Soetoro to say anything but good bye"

There's more. Obama is now denying that his campaign is negative; denying that anyone on his team called Romney a felon. But the facts are, well, they are the facts.

Nancy Cordes of CBS today interviewed Obama and asked how he felt about his campaign's tactics: "They have suggested that Mr. Romney might be a felon for the way that he handed over power of Bain Capital. And your campaign and the White House have declined to condemn an ad by one of your top supporters that links Mr. Romney to a woman's death from cancer. Are you comfortable with the tone being set with your campaign? Have you asked them to change their tone when it comes to defining Mr. Romney?"

This is what Obama's campaign said about Romney being a felon:

"Deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter laid out the issue as the Obama team sees it: “Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and his own signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the SEC, which is a felony."

And here is Obama's reply to CBS. He denies any of it happened and ignores what he chooses to ignore. And diverts to a separate issue.

"President Obama: Well, first of all, I am not sure that all of those characterizations that you laid out there were accurate. For example, nobody accused Mr. Romney of being a felon. And, I think that what is absolutely true is if you watch me on the campaign trail, here's what I'm talking about. I'm talking about how to put Americans back to work."

How does Obama think he can get away, this time in 2012, with talking about his Virtual World? In 2008, he could get away with it. No-one knew who or what he was; there were no factual reference points to compare his rhetoric with. So, all he offered were His Words. Hope and Change. The population fell for it.

Now, there are reference points. Not only in his actions on the economy and everywhere, but, in his campaign. How can he declare that no-one called Romney a felon when his campaign worker Cutter, did just that? How can he sideline a vicious negative campaign by suggesting it's not the case when hard facts show the opposite?

If Newsweek gets a boost in sales from this issue they will produce more stories like this. It's all about giving the PAYING public what they want.

Don't underestimate Obama's focus on winning. He's not interested in America or Americans. Only Himself.

He loathes Romney because Romney has done things outside of the political realm, in private business. Obama has, all his life, moved along via insiders pulling strings, via affirmative action, via some kind of assistance. He's never done a thing on his own.

Newsweek's focus on Ryan, as most people have said, is about acknowledging the reality of the strength of the Romney-Ryan team. But, I wonder if it's also a critical threshold point when more and more of the MSM will tilt away from Obama.

This then leads to a question: What will Obama do? He's a vicious and malicious person. How will he threaten the American people to make them re-elect him?

Obama's Jedi mind trick doesn't seem to be fooling everyone anymore, even the MSM are catching on.

"Is Newsweek singing from a new hymnbook?"

Nope. They published one (1) complete outlier, on one occasion, and don't deserve a pat on the head for it. It's still a politically correct, MSM-bullshit rag.

Since the print media in general has been circling the drain, there will be keen interest by competitors to see if moving back to actually reporting the news and not picking sides will boost sales. Bold move for Newsweek but hopefully a trend. With the election around the corner it will be easy to keep a eye on it.

It's probably the one, lone, single article criticizing O'Bambi that they feel they need in order to claim to be completely fair and unbiased.

A single event is not very meaningful. Over time we'll see if this is a trend or an outlier, but my guess is outlier.

The MSM are as narcissistic as Obama! But at least they have the sense to know when they should switch the sheet music so they don't become completely irrelevant.

The National Inquirer still gets printed and sold each and every day all over the western world.

A tired cliche, but I am tired after hard day of work and I am repeating it... :-)

How can you tell when Obama is lying?

His lips are moving.

That being said, there is a huge number of people who get their "news" from the major networks: NBC, CBS, ABC, CBC, etc... , and they believe everything the idiot box tells them.

They are going to drag us all down with their tepid quest for knowledge.

I just keep storing away food, water and ammunition, and hope for the best.

Romney the guy is a moron I mean mormon.
what a choice

@ glacierman
The national inquirer does not pretend to give you news unless it relates to Elite relationships or space invasions. It's the gossip rag my mother swears by. I have never considered it a source for news and it never pretends to be one. On the other hand , they have been sued more than once, so they are more cutting edge than Newsweek and are'nt fussy on whose leg they pee.

I'm with those who think this article is a one time occasion, and would not believe for a second that they have shifted their ideology this quick. Usually a move to either side of the center is done by increments.

For example, it took David Frum some time to move totally to the left.

Is this what caused Rosie O'Donnell's heart attack?

It's hard to fool people at this stage and Niall Ferguson's article really hits the mark.

Meh ... Newsweek is trying to get blown-up by the tolerant left for the insurance money.

It may be barely possible that someone at Newsweak watched those 500,000 hate filled neocons buy up all the Chick-fil-A on that Wednesday a couple weeks ago and did the math. Being the house organ for the Dems hasn't been paying well lately...

Very interesting. This article would be enough to make me buy a single issue of Newsweek. It may be that there's still a tiny bit of capitalist spirit left at the publication that wants to see if they can reverse their inexorable decline by printing articles which have some resemblance to reality.

If enough people buy this issue (and I will if I happen to be shopping in the next few days) a sudden surge in circulation might result in a sudden realignment in the political weltanschauung of Newsweek. I'm probably being over-optimistic but it would be rather odd if every segment of the dead tree media was marching lockstep into obscurity.

I don't always agree with niall but in any disagreement between Ferguson ans Krugman there is no choice. I would accept ferguson's facts over krugman's sight unseen.

Krugman upperdate is great - reality must be getting too close if his panties are in a twist

One of the problems with the engineering incognocenti is that they don't know the difference between gas and gasoline (or benzin, benzine, etc.) People put gas into plastic bags all the time - look to Goodyear, Fugi, and the people that make the pretty balloons with "happy birthday" on them. It is gasoline you shouldn't put into plastic bags, not gas.

Wha' happened? I must have skipped a thread!

Sorry 'bout that.

My apology for posting the wrong thresd did not post. Still sorry about that.

peterj,

Couldn't agree more, but the fact is that even the NI gets the occasional scoop on the "real news", like the Tiger Woods Story.

Newsweek has had the same type of serendipitous flash in the pan.

I bought a Newsweek. The shopkeeper kindly offered to put it in a brown paper bag.
