  1. Geeze and the loony left thought that it is a tingle running up their leg every time they see a black man.
Actually it’s the Freddy Kruger you forgot to take your meds and now you’re wearing a hidden machete sort of a tingle.

  2. So … how many planters and trash bins were searched? And how many had weapons stashed in them?
Phil’s cronie was just stupid enough to be carrying.
Birds of a feather ya knob.

  3. This is less a case of loony left protest as it is nutty policing and paranoid officials.
There was no reason to stop the guy – he was correct – where is the reasonable cause? Are we at war under martial law or does the constitutional right to free mobility, speech and opinion (yes even the right to peacefully carry a big ugly knife that scares timid cops)still in effect. My God! the way police are acting lately you’s think the US was a martial police state.
We saw the same keystone cop gooning of the leftard sillies with their goofy puppet – apparently the sticks working it were dangerous and out of arbitrary regulatory scale – s charges and arrest are threatened. Harmless activity blown way out of proportion into some paranoid cop dillusion of domestic terrorists under every rock and behind every shadow – and DHS sez them terry-ests looks jus like you! A harmless situation made more volitile by nervous cops who have been fed too many boogy man stories by DHS.
It’s cop goonery like this that really ticks people off and it’s time the police came to their senses and stop treating everyone like a potental terrorist.

  4. Maybe he just wanted to whack open a coconut if he got thirsty. Maybe he was going to attack someone. Maybe he was just a typical lefty loopy nutcase trying to be cool while doing absolutely nothing productive. The latter would be my guess.

  5. If it was a TEA party member, ALL the networks would be on 24/7 hyperventilate mode, about the EEEEEEEEEEEVIL TEA party members wanting to kill, kill, kill.
But its a dumbocrat, move along, nothing to see here…….

  6. But how can that be, Kate? We’re constantly told that Leftists are the peaceful, non-violent ones. You never know, maybe he was just bringing it to slice up limes for the drinks of the Rich Republicans who are oppressing him!!! 🙂

  7. At least we know why the left doesn’t want to ban sharp things.
“It’s not the guy holding the machette it’s the machette that holds the guy”.

  8. It could get very ugly. Add in the NBP to the mix, throw in a few OWS whack jobs and then stir in a few loopy Marxists and look at what you’ve got. A horror story.

  9. The scariest part of the article was not the fact that some moon bat was arrested with a machete, but the fact that Police had to measure protesting sticks to determine if they med some Florida code.
Some politicians or bureaucrats actually sat down to determine this and pass a law on it. Now that is scary.

  10. Occam is wrong.
Any machete that I have ever seen has a length between 20 inches and about 4 feet. Forget about the convention, even in Canada, you would be hard-pressed to explain carrying such a weapon in a public place, and would be liable to a weapons charge.

  11. Eastern Paul >
Did the guy need to go through FBI/ RCMP background checks as every firearm owner does for criminal or mental health issues?
Was his spouse contacted, prior to being issued the license to own? Is Florida a concealed or open carry state most require allot of additional certification training hours for a firearm.
But these questions seem to get lost on the left providing it’s something they really want to personally carry.

  12. I get Occam’s point, but as is typical with the lefty crowd, it’s all kind of Alinsky-ish.
Push the system as far as you can, then when the system reacts out of fear of potential consequences and public safety, begin to scream about your rights and the oppressive police state.
Let us not forget the Chicago Democratic National Convention of I believe, 1968. Then think about the polarized state of affairs today and the OWS/Black Bloque crowd we have today.
Fot the police, it’s ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t.’

  13. I know it’s the proper newspaper usage but I bet most people glancing at that headline in a newspaper (buried on page C13 no doubt) will think that a Republican loon was armed with a machete. I’d prefer it read, “Anti-RNC Protester…”.

  14. you would be hard-pressed to explain carrying such a weapon in a public place, and would be liable to a weapons charge.
I think that is Occam’s point. And his point is that this is wrong.
Fot the police, it’s ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t.’
Oh give me a friggin break. The police are always feted as heroes by the media regardless of what they do. The could turn downtown TO into a police state like they did for the G20 and still come out as roses.

  15. Sorry! I’m a little confused here. Is it not a right of every Democrat male to carry such Clinton weaponry in their pants? WTF gives here??

  16. If some rent-a-cop at the airport can confiscate my nail clippers, then I’ve got no problem with the cops confiscating a big knife from some dumb-ass who should know better.
By the way, it’s a kukri knock-off. The Ghurkhas loved to chop-off Jap heads with these during WW II. As a killing tool it is much deadlier than any machete.
“Over the last few yards the Highlanders suddenly accelerated, but any noise they made was drowned by the ear-splitting scream of the little hillmen going like demented dwarves, brandishing their knives as they scampered into the trees – and I was profoundly glad that I was not Japanese. One of the Highlanders told me later that when they came out again they found the ground before the position littered with Gurkha rifles: most of them had gone in with kukris alone.”
George MacDonald Fraser – “Quartered Safe Out Here” page 132.

Yeah the Japanese favoured the bayonet….the Ghurka’s favoured up close and personal.
However, my personal experience is that Ghurka’s operate in total silence…it’s their shtick….no doubt the Japanese screamed a lot though….
When I am at home I generally have my Khukri within easy reach….
It requires no great strength, training or practice, delivers a blow/cut like a katanna and can be operated in a telephone booth.
Most allied personel prefered the khukri, to a machete, in South-East Asia….often for more than clearing brush. The smiths of Sheffield allegedly, due to popular demand, resorted to the Nepalese practice of using used car springs as the raw material.

  18. I have no problem with this goon and his kukri… so long as I get to carry my Claymore and my Winchester pump.
    But if I don’t, he don’t.
Also don’t have a problem with the cop hassling the puppet idiots. If I don’t get to have pugil sticks, they don’t.
Welcome to the new police state. Brush up on your empty hand technique, wear steel toes.
And please, let’s not have any doubt that these punks are there to beat up cops and bust the place up. If they manage to disrupt the Republican convention in even a small way they’ll be crowing about it for years.

  19. gjantslor >
“I’m sure Republicans will support this man’s Second Amendment rights. Right?”
    Yup, 100%.
All the man needs to do is complete the mandatory FBI mental/ criminal background checks, along with all the training, licensing and registries required in his state. As in Canada include reporting of any history of drug abuse, along with contacting spouses & all ex-spouses, and a signed voucher by two guarantors not living with the applicant.
Of course if we did this with every firearm, sharp interment, and motor vehicle the roadways would be pretty clear of Loony Liberals, and the jails overflowing.
What would Republicans do with all that open space?

  20. So if one of her Police gets his brains beaten out by this legal stick will Chief Castor cry just a little? Or sued a whole lot?
What do you do when your on riot duty and the guy in front of you protesting pulls out a machete?
Easy, ya shoot him and about 9 bystanders too.

  21. Occam must have missed the small detail that this man was carrying it in the RNC Event Zone. This was an occupy action. If you doubt it, ask yourself this question: would any woman, or man, walk anywhere close to a man carrying a machete? What if 20 occupiers show up tomorrow in the RNC Event Zone, carrying machetes? Should the Tampa Police stop them?
This is the first of many attempts by the revolutionary left to close down the convention, or divert media attention to anything but Romney’s message, which, if desseminated nationally, will end the Obama presidency.

  22. The left has always ok with armed Black Panther intimidation at polling stations, Union Thugs with bats, or crazy leftist activists with machetes out of place at “right wing” events.
Their only problem is with honest taxpaying citizens arming themselves within the law and all the regulations including background checks to protect themselves from the loony all of the above.

  23. Shouldn’t Republicans feel safer the more people are armed? An armed society is a polite society, right? This machete guy might have stopped a bad guy trying to shoot the place up or something.

  24. I guess if this guy had a poster that said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants,” like the guy who once showed up armed to protest Obama, you’d be applauding him, right?

  25. giantslor >
    Absolutely!
BUT did this guy pass the background checks that everyone else required to carry a weapon does?
You know the mental health, criminal, spousal and drug abuse checks that every open or concealed carry firearms owner does?
The problem for the left is that they tend to be drug abusing mental patients with criminal records.
Afraid that exempts most of them to legal carry in a civilized society.
If this guy did indeed have the appropriate licence to carry the cops involved should all be fired!

  26. No, those laws infringe on the right to bear arms. The Second Amendment doesn’t say, “The right of the sane, upstanding, sober people,” it says, “The right of the people.” People have the God-given right to keep and bear machetes, guns, grenade launchers, anti-aircraft batteries, ICBMs, biological weapons, you name it, regardless of their mental state. Any restriction on that is unconstitutional. The fact that you don’t understand that tells me you hate what our country stands for. You’ll have my cluster bombs when you pry them from my cold, dead hands!

  27. giantslor >
You just a delusional activist hack giantslor, your arguments are clearly understood here as such.
No civil society in history allowed societies criminals to freely associate in the community with arms, including the early American Republic.
Your ilk is societies plague. You commonly can’t legally own arms because you’re dangerous to society as the mentally deranged and criminally irresponsible.
Responsible people have always been welcome to contribute to the safekeeping of a free and liberty minded society, mostly from people like you, the takers.

  28. Knight99 can’t make an argument so he starts calling people he disagrees with names. News at 11.
If I don’t get to have pugil sticks, they don’t.
Yay! The Conservative Police State (TM) will violate EVERYONE’s rights equally! Cripes you people are disgusting.

  29. The police are always feted as heroes by the media regardless of what they do. The could turn downtown TO into a police state like they did for the G20 and still come out as roses.
A Google search for “police brutality” and “g20” and “toronto star” brought 14,400 results. Here’s an example:
OTTAWA—One of Toronto’s more respected journalists says he saw first hand the ugly face of police brutality at the June G20 summit in Toronto.
TVO’s Steve Paikin on Monday told a parliamentary committee how he watched a “chippy” journalist get punched and elbowed by police when the man objected to having his credential removed,
“If one defines police brutality as the thoroughly unnecessary, over-the-top implementation of violence to achieve something that otherwise could have been achieved without it then I saw that that night,” said Paikin, who is the anchor and senior editor of TVO’s The Agenda.”

  30. LAS >
What was the argument I was supposed to debate?
That the criminally insane should walk freely in society with weapons of mass destruction?
Only a complete and utter moron could make that an argument to legitimize their position. What is your excuse for agreeing with him?
Of course the Liberal position is to allow early release of dangerous paedophiles and violent felons, with get this “anonymity” in society.
Yea, you freaks will NEVER get your way with our freedom to protect ourselves from you, not ever.

  31. So, right-wing conservatives have the right to bear arms, liberals don’t. I guess you’re one of those “living document” people who believes the Constitution means whatever you want it to mean. Otherwise you’d support my right to protect myself against the evil Obamunist gubmint with stinger missles and anti-tank rockets. How am I supposed to stop tanks and attack helicopters with mere machine guns?

  32. Note that my above post is in reply to Knight 99’s statement that, “Your ilk is societies plague. You commonly can’t legally own arms because you’re dangerous to society as the mentally deranged and criminally irresponsible.”
Someone who thinks liberals are, as a group, “dangerous to society as the mentally deranged and criminally irresponsible,” is, well, deranged.

  33. Giantslor >
“So, right-wing conservatives have the right to bear arms, liberals don’t.”
Now now, no need to words in people’s mouths.
My statement was clear, criminals, the mentally ill, and drug abusers are exempted from possessing or acquiring weapons– Just like the RCMP background checks for firearms and other dangerous goods exist today.
Just because Liberals fit into 99% of those deviant societal categories is not my fault. Stay clean and you should be able to own whatever weapon you like, just like the “gun owning” conservatives prove every time they qualify for a firearms licence.

  34. LAS said: “Yay! The Conservative Police State (TM) will violate EVERYONE’s rights equally! Cripes you people are disgusting.”
I’m sorry, weren’t you just yelling at Knight99 for calling people names?
To reiterate, I don’t care what goon-boy is carrying, so long as I get to carry what -I- want. As well as all my friends and relations. So the goons will all know what’s going to happen to them should they act up.
But if you ninny-nannies are going to object to my Claymore/shotgun/pistol/pistol/dirk/knife/pepper spray/skull buster baton ensemble, and stick me in a weapon-free zone where all my obviously deranged political enemies have easy access… then I’m going to have to insist the goon gives up his kukri and the puppet idiots give up those sticks.
What’s your beef, kid? Rules is rules.

Nice straw man you got there. Pick that up at walmart?
