There are "certain people" who have not recalled history and have forgotten that a tyrant attempted to impose unreasonable taxes and was overthrown by gunfire.
Absolutely, James, but many others haven't forgotten, and know full well that this is the most important year -- and most important November -- in recent history, or maybe ever.
Here's to our American friends, and their battles to come. The second verse says it all.

Related to the July 2, 2012 posting ("It's Probably Nothing" on the US Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) there was no mention of how Canada did.
The Canadian PMI was just released this morning, and Canada's PMI came in at 54.8 (indicating expansion), the highest level in 9 months. This compared to 49.7 (indicating contraction) in US.
"The headline RBC PMI - a composite indicator designed to provide a single-figure snapshot of the health of the manufacturing sector - indicated a further strong improvement in Canadian manufacturing business conditions in June. At 54.8, up fractionally from 54.7 in May, the RBC PMI recorded the strongest improvement since September 2011."

Thanks for that vid, and the beautiful anthem. I am proud to be Canadian, but I am also proud of my American ancestry, celebrated Independence Day many times as a kid.
God Bless America!
EBD I'm not really sure it's the land of the free or the courageous or brave, more like the land of the MSM terrified confused people.
Sad but they are figuring out, albeit slowly, that the Liberal types are not their friends.
I have hope that there will be a change in November (and yes I came up with that)

"Edit: Cern say that this is one of several videos they have made, one for each of the possible outcomes, as though it's a presidential election and they've written one speech for victory and one for defeat. That sounds a bit odd to me, but I dare say all shall become clear tomorrow. I've quickly taken down what the Cern press officer said to me over the phone: see bottom of the story."
We'll find out tomorrow if they really did record several videos.

The Star Spangled Banner Lyrics
By Francis Scott Key 1814
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Cheers

I'm not sure if this really belongs here, but I have to get it off my chest.
My sister is in town for a few day this summer and seeing as see teaches at a university in Quebec I asked her opinion on the students protesting/rioting over tuition increases. Keeping in mind that my sister is a hard left NDP-dyed-in-the-wool-Socialist guess who she blamed for the entire issue? Yep, she blamed the Jews.
She started by explaining to me me that Jews don't leave their money to the Synagogue they leave their money to universities and hospitals when they die. Money the Jews got from exploiting the French Canadians in Quebec, she added.
Next she explained how at one time only white, English speaking people were allowed to go to university in Quebec. When the universities were finally opened up to French speaking Canadians there was a promise that tuition would eventually be free as a reparation for how the university's Jewish benefactors supposedly exploited the French. When tuition was raised rather than lowered this angered the French and they took to the streets.
I can testify that we were not raised by antisemitic parents, quite the opposite, in fact. I was completely blown away that my sister would ever say such things. I don't know what to make of it, but it is disturbing as I know her twisted logic is a result of 30 plus years in the universities.
Foobert, I actually wee-weeeced it already, as Barbara Walters would say. (It's at 10:30 PM)
The shortened links help, but in this case, like so many, the problem was the dreaded "&" in the live-linked URL, which will always elbow a comment to the filter.
The "&" almost always appears in the non-essential extras part of a URL string, so if someone wants to live-link a YouTube video (for example) one can simply remove the "&" and everything to the right of it.
Schocked - I can only tell you that I am so glad that none of my grandchildren are being taught by your sister. Problem is though, that they are being taught by others who actually think and believe like she does. Nothing personal re your sister but that whole Quebec student thing is so sad.
Time for the rest of Canada to have a referendum, me thinks.
To Uncle Sam--hats off from Canada!!

Happy Birthday, America!
Some basic principles of economics and life:
An economy consists of all acts of production, trade and consumption performed by individuals. Trade means voluntary trade enacted for mutual benefit.
Life is not a scenario in which one person getting ahead means another falling behind. There is not a fixed amount of wealth in the world.
"People, not profits" is as vicious a slogan as there is. The proper concept is, "Profits and people: both or neither".
ALL progress derives from the efforts of those who use their minds to find ways of making more, or better, or cheaper goods and services.
The crucial ingredient of the free market economy is the ability of individuals to judge the value of all items available. This enables trade for mutual benefit. It is nullified by government price-fixing, subsidies to business, and numerous other interventions that distort the market to the detriment of individual decision-making.
The only difference between government and the private sector is that the government can use coercion. It has a monopoly on coercion because its proper function is to step in when individuals violate the fundamental moral principle of a civilized society, namely that no person has the right to initiate the use of force or fraud on any other person.
Coercion does not create, discover or produce. Government intervention cannot help the economy. Only the individual is capable of looking after his own life.
Government officials have no special insight into societal problems and no magic wands to wave to solve them. If they had, the problems would have been solved long ago. Moreover, due to the coercive nature of taxation, government officials are often protected from suffering the consequences of their decisions should they be suboptimal, which is far less likely in the private sector.
High government spending eats away at capital rather than allowing savings to accumulate, which would be invested in future production. Taxes and regulation are the twin destroyers of the modern economy.
The redistribution of wealth, i.e, robbing Peter to pay Paul, is not a valid notion upon which to build a just, civilized society.
It is not a sin to have no interest in business, but artists and others should not bite the hand that feeds them.
The pursuit of happiness is the moral birthright of all men and women. All anyone really has to do in life is to find a productive career that they enjoy, or to find a useful career they can do well while having their major life interests on the side as a hobby or other pursuit.
Please refer to the works of Ayn Rand for full details.
And please remember this in November.

I hope you "rise up as of old" this November. We need a strong United States of America. Without it, the world is a darker, much more dangerous place.

"Next she explained how at one time only white, English speaking people were allowed to go to university in Quebec."
Shocked, perhaps you might ask your sister how it is that Université Laval was the first institution of higher learning in Canada (1663), founded before there even were any English-speaking people around?
And if, as she claims, only white, English-speaking people were allowed to go to university in Québec, how does she explain that Laval received its university charter from no less than Queen Victoria in 1852?
Anyway, enough of that nonsense!

I salute the USA on their birthday.....or rather half of the people in the USA as the other half seem to be liberal, progressives, etc. I don't get how these people see things as they do....sure the schools and mostly universities preach leftist b.s. but hey man/woman do you have a brain?
Note to Americans: Don't let the Obamaites take over your country this November...if you do, I fear for your outcome.

"Kings County puts hold on wind farms"
"KENTVILLE — Large-scale wind farms will not be permitted anywhere in Kings County, at least not in the near future while county council reviews the issues around the developments.
Council voted 10-1 at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday to rescind its bylaw that would have allowed developers to erect wind turbines as long as they were 700 metres from the nearest dwelling.
Coun. Dick Killam said the vote was an example of democracy in action, as residents have expressed the clear message that they don’t want wind turbines in their communities.
“Simply put, the current wind turbine bylaw is flawed,” Killam said. “Our municipality has to demonstrate due diligence on this issue.
“We are open for business, but we want the right kind of business.”
He said municipalities and the province must do more research before allowing large-scale wind farms into rural communities."
