The Declaration of Independence, Fixed:

We hold these views to be consistent with the evolving cultural consensus, that all humans are equally obliged to the performance of certain Duties, that among these are the Participation in the Struggle against Racism, Economic Injustice, Genetically Modified Organisms, Homophobia, Nationalism and the Excessive Emission of Carbon Dioxide and Other Greenhouse Gasses. That to secure the performance of these Duties, Governments are instituted among humans, deriving their just powers from the considered Opinions of the Educated Classes, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Duty of the Enlightened and Credentialed Guardians of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute a new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect the Unquestioning Performance of their Duties by the Less Enlightened Members of the Public. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Change cannot come too quickly to suit the Convenience and the Predilections of an Enlightened Minority…

A good start, but it is way too short. It should be turned over to the EU commissars for turgidification and lengthification (how do you like THAT word, Orwell!)

Errrrrrrr.....wrongo Go Ahead, Censsor Me Again Bee-atch. EBD was one of the few who KNEW it was a parody site. Problem was,the story was SOOOOOOO close to what you leftards and the Useless Nations want,that it was easy for others to get fooled.

It's okay, Justthinkin. One might assume that someone from Carleton University in Ottawa (albeit a mentally-ill person from Carleton University who serially and compulsively attempts to post comments that call our hostess a "c**t" and similar names) would notice that I made clear in the post that the Daphne bit was satire (I wrote that similar proposals "by *real* environmentalists *sound also* like over-the-top *satires*"), but it would be the wrong assumption in this case.

Genius then says, with dumb glee, that I took down a post that was never actually taken down, all because (name withheld) is just too dumb to scroll down the page and/or remember where the post is.

Thick as a plank.

I understand what EBD is saying here but I feel somewhat uncomfortable reading it. It reminds me of someone making fun of the bible or something.
Sorry, but that was my gut feeling.

Gaylord (8::25), I think the words are intended to give one a very uncomfortable, or even angry, feeling; they express a bitter truth about the efforts of the "Enlightened, Credentialed Guardians" to rewrite the constitution according to their whims, and about their -- at least partial -- success in doing so.

Btw, just in case it's not perfectly clear, the cited passage wasn't written by me, but by Walter Russell Mead, who is an American.

Thanks, Me No Dhimmi. For a while I started using quotation marks around the blockquoted passages I was citing, even though it's incorrect (or redundant) to do so, just to avoid such (fairly infrequent) reader misunderstandings about attribution.

I'd like to think that, in edition to the blockquoting (indentation), the presence of a blue-highlighted link preceding it (and hopefully the syntax of the sentence containing the link) makes it clear that I'm not the author of the blockquoted, linked-to passage, but every once in a while people get confused. In this particular case, I think it might have to do with the fact that the last word (the one linked to) before the blockquote is the word "fixed"; Kate has a regular feature theme "Here, let me fix that (X) for you", so it might have looked like I was doing the same with the Declaration of Independence.

One-hundred percent of the time, without exception, when there's a blue-highlighted link followed by a colon, then a blockquoted passage, the words in the blockquoted passage aren't my own.
