I wish I could revel in my country's birthday, but particularly in light of the recent awful, awful decision by the Supreme Court it only feels like Re-Dependence Day.
At least the King and the British Parliament were an ocean away. Washington, DC on the other hand can extend all its petty ministrations into every nook and cranny of a citizen's existence.
Many years ago I got to spend a 4th of July in the US. It was an incredible experience to share in the celebration in a country where I have more rights as a foreigner than I do in my own country.
I believe in America. And I'm not talking about that schmuck at the beginning of The Godfather. America is the greatest nation in the history of the world; Confusion to her Enemies. Happy birthday.

This is a very sad day for me.. The SCOTUS betrayed the Constitution and are now just like every other cheap NJ crime family. Jersey Shore (TV show) could use that worthless black robe to pimp for Snookie & company
MissAnthropy - If everyone sane person volunteers for Romney, works hard, and votes, Obama will be beaten in Nov. The Democrats' biggest weapon is persuading Republicans their cause is hopeless.

Thanks Osumashi for reprising the words of Abraham Lincoln from the Gettysburg address. At the time when Lincoln gave that short speech, there were other speakers that day for the battlefield dedication. The press was strongly of the opinion that Lincoln's speech was too short for such a momentous occasion. Our press; always unmoved and unbowed, and always getting it wrong.
