In the U.S., spending by universities on athletics increased at a greater rate than spending on academics. I'd like to know why, if college athletics is so good for academics, why then has the price of academics increased at a greater rate than athletics??
Bwahahahahahaha....good one,Kate. Don't you know that nowadays, they don't teach GR4 until the first year of college/university???(let alone GR6)And besides, what do they learn from just showing up to get a passing mark??(rhetorical Q)
If Grade 12 was actually a qualification rather than a rite of passage of passage, maybe more employers would accept it for decent jobs. It's cute but why do retarded kids end up with high school diplomas in Alberta? The quality of the college education is apparent when Obama, a Harvard grad, has no clue how many states are in the country he leads.
Actually, what's being planned is quite a bit easier to find, have a look into Social & Economic Learning, which, of course, has little to do with the latter and everything to do with the former. In particular, how to manipulate the frontal lobes during the brain's development so as to achieve emotive response in a crowd.
Robin has done her homework. The Australians are just now figuring out what's been done to their education system, the Brits? Not so much. They mean to drive this down through all the transnational channels. It didn't do much for the Soviet children of the 50's through the 70's. And they know and openly complain about what they did to their children.
What I finally learned from getting a Masters was:
A) you don't -need- a Masters to be a Physical Therapist, you don't ever use anything you didn't learn in highschool or at most BA level uni.
B) Almost everything they teach you other than anatomy is utterly useless in real-world therapy 99% of the time.
C) A new therapist has to spend his first year UNlearning all the crap they told him in school, while learning for the first time how its actually done.
D) The real cutting-edge work in PT is -not- being done at universities.
However I've found the extra statistics courses I took quite useful in sorting out the masses of BS from the odd nugget of science while reading. So nothing is really wasted, even if I can't make a buck off it.
The more the Government subsidizes via student grants (Pell Grants, subsidized loans, etc), the faster the cost will increase. Ahh, Government interference.... Where would we be without it?
Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice
of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I can't answer or use every
tip, but all are
appreciated!

How much money would you pay to watch a nerd at work?
How much money did the nerds generate for the universities?
Athletics pays a lot of bills for the colleges because people pay to watch athletes. Huge TV contracts, huge crowds.

The Higher Education Bubble.
Isn't higher education an oxymoron?
Nevertheless, it's a bubble that needs to be burst.
Missing from the admittedly brief discussion is the effect on the bubble of administrative bloat.
Administrative bloat is also a blight, since the quality of education is in inverse relation to the extent of the bloat.
