'Rio has turned into an epic failure. It has failed on equity, failed on ecology and failed on economy,'' the executive director of Greenpeace International, Kumi Naidoo, said.
So, Kate, you seem surprised by...what?
Twenty years on, we have an "epic failure" around a failed agreement crafted by Maurice Strong, an associate of Pierre Trudeau?
I would respectfully point out that Maurice Strong, after that little fiasco in Rio, was then appointed Chair of Ontario Hydro by none other than...Bob Rae, the NDP Premier of Ontario.
May I point out further that Mr. Strong then, in a gallant attempt to give effect to his Rio creation, then authorized the purchase by Ontario Hydro of a piece of Costa Rican rainforest, which just happened to be right next door to...the resort hotel that he himself owned.
Which led to...Mike Harris winning the 1995 Ontario general election.
So, as a general proposition, I would say that, if you're a Trudeau, don't agree to anything unless it's approved by HMQ (as in April 17, 1982).
Or, "Don't sell your hair to a wig shop", get SDA.
Greenpeace and WWF are unnhappy because they apparently do not rule the world. Oh, the angst.
Let's wait and see ... it ain't over yet.
It's a very simple barometer; the unhappier Greenpeace is, the better for all the rest of us.
Robert, the thing is, the Euro economic crisis has taken the steam out of the EU delegation. That's not going to get any better over at least the next five years.
No money? Not even a token specific commitment? It's done, and its delusions of one world government.
Kate is right, the whimperings from the green slime spell success.
WINNING!
I love it when a plan comes together...
Now if we can only get the French to...
When Greenpeace is unhappy, I am happy. I'll be happier when these frauds are all hung from the gallows for the massive fraud and expense they have perpetrated on the public. The Liberal Party of Canada, Strong, Rae, the Demarais, all in bed with the UN to usurp the sovereignty, power and wealth of free countries to enrich themselves in the name of saving the planet.
As Robert said above - it ain't over yet.
I regard this as a complete success. the left climate whiners lost big time and the rest of us won our livelyhoods and property and what ever prosperity we still have!
A lot of conservatives are not on board with the Harper government for a number of legitimate reasons - the recent bill 38, slow to do anything about HRC, the copyright stuff, and even making some noises about AGW, etc etc. This however is, in my opinion, the greatest challenge the world has faced since WWII, even more important than Reagan and Thatcher defeating the Soviets. And Harper is leading the charge.
Any time WWF,Greenpeace,UN, and any other slimy NGO/eco-cultist/Agenda 21 backers are unhappy, freedom loving people everywhere should rejoice. And leda88,lets just make sure we confiscate all of their and their next 10 generations ill gotten gains before we have that party.
"failed on equity".....of course they mean equality of outcome, not equality of opportunity.....
Mr Naidoo said Greenpeace would have to give up on international negotiations and move to a campaign of civil disobedience to try to overcome the state parochialism that was stopping any progress in multilateral talks to address environmental problems.
So, basically, greenpeace is threatening to throw a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted?

Pete said "So, basically, greenpeace is threatening to throw a tantrum because they didn't get what they wanted? "
I'd go further than that and say he clearly declared Greenpeace a Terrorist Organization.
-even more important than Reagan and Thatcher defeating the Soviets-
The Russians are still as big a threat or more than they ever were. Despite the constant reiteration of the ridiculous idea that Reagan et al won the Cold War, the fact is the Cold War never ended.
That said, 'Rio was clearly a bust while it was happening and Prime Minister Harper was at that time castigated for refusing to sign on like the other lemming national leaders.
The Angus Reid poll just above the photo has him losing the "is Stephen Harper a good PM" contest.
I guess the greenies that frequent the Sydney Morning Herald can't connect the dots between what is empirically right and what they believe with religious fervor to be right.
Justthinkin @ 8:52, exactly!

Another green creep from the past also made an appearance at Rio.

Oh, goody.
Another campaign of civil disobedience.
There are hundreds of real experts on climate, but who does the CBC choose to interview on the failure of Rio+20? Why one of The Suzuki's offspring of course. Bah ...
"And the meeting failed to meet the hopes of environmental campaigners, and the Australian government, that it would at least launch a negotiation for new rules to protect the high seas, outside the boundaries of individual nations' 200-kilometre territorial zone.
That proposal was blocked by Canada, Japan, Russia and Venezuela."
There was a conference in Rio? Who'd a known? These days Greenie conflabs just don't seem to get the publicity that they used to.
I strongly suspect that we are reaching another tipping point.
Another couple of years of cooling temperatures, dismal conferences, and exposure from blogs,I fear that the green movement will never recover.
We must act now.
Soon you'll attain the stability you strive for,
In the only way that it's granted:
In a place among the fossils of our time.
