Two to, er, ponder:
Economist sees Canadian dollar sinking to 86¢ in 2013BlackBerry-maker RIM’s wholly avoidable tragedy
The business sections of Toronto newspapers sure beat the heck out of their front, news, sections.
Two to, er, ponder:
Economist sees Canadian dollar sinking to 86¢ in 2013BlackBerry-maker RIM’s wholly avoidable tragedy
Until the business sections of all msm papers start reporting the widespread fraud involved in naked shorting and the terrible consequences of the strategy for honest investors and straight firms nothing will change. One of he hedge funds "helping" RIM is one of the worst offenders.
"Economist sees Canadian dollar sinking to 86¢ in 2013 "
Only if we let a leftard gubermint back into power. Remember, when the Fiberals ran things,we were down to 62 CENTS. This was great for Ontarariiooo,as they where the equivalent to China today with cheap labor. It also meant that they did not have to improve on antiqudated manufacturing equioment and processes, which cost money. Then when our buck bounced back to where it should be in the last few years, all that smuggy smarm and laziness(plus cheap leftard thinking) came back to roost.
Note to Muchliar and Boob Rae...the AB oilsands didn't sink the now have not province of Morontario,it was the reign of the leftards YOU elected, both federally and provincially,so suck it up,metro-buttercups.
Oh. And the "Dutch" disease is very real, only we call it socialism/communism/enviromentalism.
That article on RIM is much too friendly:
"Now even BlackBerry loyalists are defecting to the iPhone and Android-based devices, which today are equal or superior in functionality to the BlackBerry line."
Today? Try 2-3 years ago. Now RIM is so far behind in so many aspects it's just simply too late. The marketplace has moved on.
RIM blundered by trying to compete in the consumer market where Apple already owned the mindshare. From a corporate/large organization POV, nothing comes even close to the BlackBerry Enterprise line for security and central manageability. What third-party vendors are trying to hack together now, RIM had ten years ago.
Had they rebranded as the go-to company for secure mobile devices, they'd still have shrunk but they'd have laid claim to a market niche Apple and Samsung neither understand nor want.
Da proof is da proof, and if you got a proven proof, we'll den it is proven, and I proved I could make a dollar wort just 62 cent, and make Cunuduh a bununah republic and I did just that. It was ard for our ockey teams to stay in Cunuduh, you know but our deeemocracy is strong so some, you know dey did just go,,,but da "abs", well dey stayed and dat was good. remember me your doddering old uncle Jean, we'll I be mad as ell, if da Dutch take all da credit for my liberal eff ups, it was me and da greatest Cunuduhian of all Peeair dat started da ball rolling for theft and graft and environMENTALisms here in Cunuduh. But I do tink dat Peeping Tom Mulcare should watch Alberta, dey work out dere and make moneys we can take for Qweebec. Sighning off with all yours Cunudians money, Uncle Jean.
The dollar goes to 86 cents when the government splurges like a drunk sailor again. Also this ignore the fact that the Euro is in trouble, and the US dollar still has their municipal bond hangover.

Bond Party Hangover Strikes Calif.
Hey, my daughter specifically wanted a RIM Blackberry curve last year, and funded the purchase herself. As a young gal who values security and nearly all the functionality of the iPhone she saved herself about $300.00-$400.00 depending on your retailer. I don't get it, what is not to like? She seems very happy with her purchase.
Cheers

I predict a $1.14 Cdn dollar. Go the opposite of published economists and you'll be closer to the truth. Our banks are in good shape, exports to Asia will strengthen and Europe will implode. America will face inflation.
Give it some time Hans. If her BB is anything like mine, its glitches and other QA issues will slowly drive her crazy.
86 pence .... against the US greenwaffle?
This is to laugh.
My wife has a Blackberry and I have an iPhone.
Both have advantages over the other. The keyboard and BBM of the BB kill my iPhone.
Fun stuff like YouTube and games on the iPhone kill the BB.
Really, it's a wash.
It's just that BB didn't toot its own horn when it came to its own unique successes.
BB10 OS may not be enough. I hope it is.
With negative media like this Red Star article, it will be more difficult to overcome public perceptions.
@ LAS: Well she got the 9360 model last October and hasn't had any issues...your mileage may vary.
Does everything she expected of it and hasn't had any glitches.
Despite the bad press, she is a relatively 'happy camper'.

Thanks for dropping by Uncle Jean.
Can't forget your other famous quote:
"A dollar is dollar is a dollar"
Tell you what, the high Canadian dollar has tourism going gangbusters here.
@HANS
Is she a happy camper as occupy camper? Lol!
Good to hear. There are way too many damn BB models though. They should have just sold that one that worked!
I could definitely see 86 cent dollar when our housing/credit bubble pops and the government bails out the banks and the CMHC.
When Alberta & Saskatchewan start suffering from "Dutch Disease" will it count?
BB was targeted. Apple had to do something about the competition. I recall BB's network being hacked with an onslaught of bad press soon following. The iphone has it's issues - Apple could not care less about their customers privacy. I see ad's offering to unbrick or fix iphones that are stuck in recovery mode. Apple uses slave labour in China - there was another jumper a week or two ago at their factory.
Oh pleease bear, all the vehicles we use, all the pipe, all the valves all the heavy machinery come from Ont or central US, stop your bawling, just think if the jobs in the oilfields, when oil dropped to 33 bucks, had been saved/bailed out at taxpayers expense/"stimulus" at a price of 877000 dollars per job, like GM and Chrysler, oh the wailing from Ont and your welfare sisters in Qweebec would've been louder than when the oil workers from Camrose won the 54 million, commodities go up and they go down, the west is adult enough to live with it, eastern liberals and NDPEE'ers should take a cue, and grow up.

The nice thing about specific predictions is thay they are falseifiable. Personally i dont see the dollar at thay level but if oil prices drop the way he is predicting then perhaps .
However that wont be the salve of ontario mfg. The drop in oil prices would be due to another recession....wont help.
Ontario is facing some bad issues and many of them are about catch up to mcguinty, some of those issues smell bad....think cronyosm and waste on a large scale at many of the crown corps. Watch and wait
Re blackberry. Sigh should have been something more. Could still be aomething more. The seeds of this problem were laid a long time ago. Management matters fixing the shortcomings of the previous group may prove ro big a task without enough runway. No mgt team is perfect but the last ones shortcomings exceeded their usefulness about 4 years ago....ariund he time they started looking at hockey teams.
Sad story, but mgt matters and the comfy canadian bus culture allowed the rot to take hold
Nothing touches the BES for a corporate user. The Iphone only caches 25 emails. With my BB I can access my corporate account, search by client folder for a 6 month old email to answer a question while I sit in a bar having a beer and a long lunch. Iphone also doesn't give you access to your corporate calendar. I can accept a meeting request in that same bar. For me an Iphone is a brick coming out of the box. A close relative works for one of the two major telecoms. There biggest warranty issue is Apple, total and %tage.
hey bartinski your acidic answer speaks volumes!
My suspicion is that a Repulican sweep in November will ignite an anti-black tuesday.....
The US economy will go tarpaper........
I love my BB Torch!! My fingers are too fat to type on touch-screens.
I get sick of these pseudo-ecomomists who think Canada's place in the economic world is as an 86 cent nation. Our dollar valuation is based on GDP and value added productivity and potential resource productivity, debt, debt carrying capacity algorithms. The truth is our dollar is stronger than the US and should be of higher value compared to it because our economy and productivity is more robust. People should be investing in Canadian banking and investment vehicles as well as our currency - the fact we get this BS currency discounting, compliments of the corrupt IMF, shows the global financial markets are as corrupted with insider manipulating as the US investment markets which are bleeding red ink from people abandoning crooked investment markets for metals and currency.
Our currency and our trade deficit should not be an issue with our potential and proven level of productivity - same as China rising yen and low trade deficit.
