Green Energy Leaves 800K Germans In The Dark
As Germany subsidies wealthy homeowners and businesses owners to install solar panels on their homes and commercial buildings, low income families living in rented apartments are getting stuck footing skyrocketing electric bills. Many can no longer afford to pay for electricity, and so the utilities are cutting off their power. High energy prices are causing everything else to get more expensive as well - all this while the euro is threatened to collapse under the weight of massive debt due to financial ineptitude.
[...]
VdK chairman Udo Schlitt says that without a price rebate, more and more people with low incomes are going to have their power shut off. He proposes:
"Therefore all power producers must be mandated to offer binding social rates by law.”
So in summary, here’s Germany’s latest energy plan: 1) Force power companies to buy exorbitantly-priced, inefficient and intermittent-supply green energy on one side, and then force them to give it away, or sell it at a low price, on the sales side!

Yea......that sounds about right!!!!!
Well, that was pretty-much the California 'de-regulation' energy plan. Didn't work out all that well, as I recall...

Excuse me; was this article commenting on Ontario's electritrical power system?
We have installed a standby generater in our rural home. Recognizing the larger residential unit will only meet our needs for a few days or a week or two, before maintenance costs become a concern, there is an interesting calculation to be made.
Calculating the present cost of natural gas and matching this up against the projected cost of electricity, I will save in the area of $25.00 per month.
The next step is to determine the cost of maintenance or an alternate generating system, Nuclear?
Any way I am preparing for the day when the Ontario Liberals price Senior Citizens out of their homes to make way for the "entitled" Liberal voters to have possesion of our residence.
Expect this will happen when they are no longer able to live in their present subsidized accommodations.
Cheers;
Apparently, as governments force ever more inefficiencies on the productive sector, as in the case of German power generation, thereby driving up prices beyond what consumers can afford, the political solution is to subsidize consumption. . . . So, just how does an economy work, when everyone must directly or indirectly subsidize everyone else?
May I suggest a old fashioned cure for all this green garbage communism, line up a row of a1m1 tanks at the epa headquarters and suggest a fire drill in fifteen. Dont have the authority? just take it. Its been done in recent times.
I'm thinking the power companies are going to respond to that plan with a flat NEIN and there will be frequent "random" rolling blackouts until they get paid.
Green energy, DDT, etc etc etc. Why do liberals and environmentalists hate poor people and black people?
Welcome to Ontario. If the track remains the same, the price per/KWH will be around 0.20 in about 3 years time.
dcardno is right. This is exactly what happened in California in the late 1990s. It wasn't renewables alone, it was the then-high price of gas. OH yes, and Enron gaming the system.
Customers complained about how high the rates were going. State then introduced a capped rate for customers, forcing Pacific Gas & Electric to eat the difference. PG&E was in bankruptcy within a year. The utility was bleeding about $500 million per month during the worst of it.
Every utility faces these same ridiculous requirements. Some are just worse than others. Just like some of the utility boards or regulators are worse than others.
It is part of the price of being a regulated utility. They are supposed to receive a guaranteed rate of return. In exchange thay have to follow the guidance of their oh so better progressive masters on the utility boards.
Then when they raise rates to cover the green boondoggles, the utilities are the bad guys. Not the noble utility boards who are keeping these rapacious robber barons in check. They only have the "best interests" of the public as their mission. No matter how stupid they and their green policies may be. And how much those same policies may cost.
I thought you were talking about San Francisco Giants fans - and frankly I've had enough of 'em too!
Welcome to Germazuela!
Hmmm...if memory serves, wasn't it the intention of the global warmistas to raise the cost of energy so there would be less consumption? They must be congratulating themselves on a job well done.
*snif*...Gawd, isn't socialism wonderful and oh so protective of the chattering classes. It appears that the social engineers are running out of other peoples' money...
Eli at June 27, 2012 5:19 PM has it right. Ontario is trying for the highest energy rates in North America and should be successful by 2013. Thanks to McGuinty and his walk in the snow with Suzuki, it's still full speed ahead with his beloved windmills while the rest of the planet has already seen the downside of this inefficient method and are bailing out as fast as the legal loopholes allow. Between Mulcair and McGuinty they are bound and determined to show the world that you can be completely devoid of common sense and still live the good life even if you turn the country into a economic basket case. After all...that's what transfer payments are for.
Peterj ;here in Calgary we have Enmax running smarmy ads to put solar panels all over your roofs, same thing, there will be massive govt. subsidies to Enmax, and the dork who falls for the green thieves will be left with the maintenance and operation of said panels and Enmax will pocket the SuzukerLuker. If Europe is not enough of an example in how not to operate, falling for every "greenthief" scam, well then Canada is in for a green surprise!

Germany has had second thoughts about wind power for a while now, as has Britain after two very cold winters that found wind power inadequate.
