Find an anti-Semite. The "NDP at prayer" continues its march lefttard... (From May)
The United Church of Canada has been hijacked by a small group of anti-Israel activists who have become obsessed with doing harm to the Jewish state and in the process have blackened the church’s reputation, a prominent Jewish leader charged Tuesday.“Israel has become an obsession for a small vocal group,” said Shimon Fogel, CEO of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs. “I think frankly it betrays the sensibilities of the vast majority of ordinary members of the United Church.”
The comment came in response to the release Tuesday of a United Church report on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that calls for a boycott of Israeli goods produced in what the authors call illegal Israeli settlements, including East Jerusalem.
The report will be voted on at the church’s general council meeting in August.
I don't generally link petitions (unless they're mock-worthy), but those interested can sign on here.

Perhaps we could take up a small collection and send the leadership of the United Church a few copies of the The Eagle and the Bible.

The UCC has been the theocratic arm of the left for decades. It's why I left the church - they now substitue politics and policy for scripture.
The Lib-left partisans have hollowed out the church from the inside and it's no surprise to me that both the Liberal parties and the UCC are at their lowest public popularity/membership ever.
Living proof progressive lib-left activists male no division between church and state - hell, a pulpit is a pulpit right - doesn't matter of it is in parliament or the church.
I managed to convince my aged parents to not leave any legacy to the UCC, it's not the same church they attended all of their lives together, it's been hijacked. They said 'it's just some noisy nuts in Toronto' but I told them it's all one organization. The charitable legacy will go to the local hospital instead.
The lions wouldn't stand a chance against them Christians..........
So lands seized in war are now illegal?
Hmmmm. They better start boycotting French, Czech and Polish goods as well then because theses nations seized huge chunks of Germany after WW2 and still occupy these German lands to this day.
To say nothing of the 15 million German civilians who were ethnically cleansed from the former German lands . . . or the 500,000 seniors, women and children who died in the forced marches or in the slave labor camps they were housed in for years.
The United Church must step up and match their moral outrage where the big fish hang out . . . Israel is small fry.
Besides the residential schools, there's another crime the United Church must atone for: the conversion of hundreds of Ukrainians from Eastern Catholicism and Orthodoxy by the UCC's Methodist and Presbyterian forebears.
The UCC congregation of Andrew, Alberta is entirely made up of the descendants of those converts (no, "Special Ed" isn't a member). And there's a photograph in the UCC archives of CGIT girls in St. Paul making flower wreaths with ribbons - Ukrainians call those "vinoky".
I continue to be struck by how dated this kind of quixotic campaign is. Times have changed, folks: the rise of militant Islam, 9/11 and the change in attitude within the Middle East itself toward the Palestinians really ought, by this stage, to be illuminating your thinking on the subject. In this regard, why does it have to fall to Mr. Fogel, rather than the "Christian" church in the story, to point out the current plight of Middle Eastern and African Christians at the hands of Muslims? And why pursue a boycott when your own research of similar campaigns says that boycotts don't work? It seems strange to me.
Occam and yop, the exact same kind of self-absorbed self-immolation has occurred in the Anglican Church (at the hands of leftists in the clerical hierarchy and church organization) over the past four decades, from desecration of the liturgy to demands for collective guilt around residential schools to obsession with issues around homosexuality. A fat lot of good all that did in terms of bringing more parishioners into the pews. I had to laugh recently about a reader survey by the Anglican Journal (which edition happened to contain a review of a book written by a former NDP functionary in Ottawa) asked if the reader found reporting in the newspaper to be biased!
The head office of the UCC stopped being Christian decades ago. This latest drivel from them is nothing new.
I was brought up in the UCC, but my parents ceased attending the church when I was about 12 or so. Went to a funeral at a United Church a few years ago, and the "service" as such, was as much New Age B.S. as it was Christian in nature.
So, I thought about signing the petition, and I decided against it. Let the UCC wither and die. It has ceased to be Christian in any recognizable way.
There are lots of vacant united churchs in the prairies. no parishioners, left to rot. just like the moral fibre of the UCC leaders.
I got involved with the UCC through marriage ... my Inlaws were big time dippers and big time UCC members.
The two go hand in hand. Although the old time dippers and UCC clan didn't really understand it ... their church had been hijacked by the PeeCee mob of feminists, communists and perverts.
The ministry stopped being a messenger for Christian faith and became the bully pulpit for political correctness.
A complete travesty. And, when I would broach the subject of what was being said in those services and in the material that was being distributed through the congregation, the blank stares that would come over the faces of those people was all the proof in the world of the clueless acceptance of what was being done to them.
I go at Christmas to keep my mother happy. Last time I went, the service at UCC in Ancaster was a pretty bland event with lots of PC goodness and not much actual Christianity evident.
However I am informed that the mention of Jesus, Joseph and Mary by name puts that service 'way ahead of similar in Toronto.
Don't care really. The United Church left me a -long- time ago, as have a few other formerly respected institutions. I'm used to it by now.
We ask that the United Church reject boycotts of Israel in any form, refuse to hold the world’s only Jewish state as solely responsible for ending the Israeli-Arab conflict, and instead support positive initiatives to advance peace, reconciliation, and prosperity in the Holy Land –for the benefit of both Palestinians and Israelis.
No. No man who takes God's law seriously should support, in word or deed, the prosperity of the sons of Amalek. God has commanded their utter destruction and the return of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel, and the land's return to its people---from the Nile to the Tigris. There will be no peace in the Middle East until this is done, and let all here pray that they live to see it done.
Yes, gordinkneehill--the United Church of Canada have had their reward. May they burn with Islam and the Church of Rome.

I foresee and predict that the huge urban church buildings will become mosques.

How about just a few copies of the Bible. Apparently they are unfamiliiar with that one.

CGIT? Chinese Girls In Tights
Many great comments above.
It is not only the UCC and the Anglican Church that have left God and embraced Marx. This same Marxist disease is beginning to infect the Lutheran church as well as many of the evangelical protestant churches and blended with liberal Christianity into what is commonly called "social justice". Most of the parishioners do not realize that this happening.
A person is ostracized by many for saying you support Israel and capitalism.

I foresee and predict that the huge urban church buildings will become mosques.
Quite prescient.
'Muslims in Europe are increasingly converting empty Christian churches into mosques. The proliferation of mosques housed in former churches reflects the rise of Islam as the fastest growing religion in post-Christian Europe.
...
'In Germany as a whole, more than 400 Roman Catholic churches and more than 100 Protestant churches have been closed since 2000, according to one estimate. Another 700 Roman Catholic churches are slated to be closed over the next several years. By contrast, there are now more than 200 mosques (including more than 40 mega-mosques), 2,600 Muslim prayer halls and a countless number unofficial mosques in Germany. Another 128 mosques are currently under construction, according to the Zentralinstitut Islam-Archiv, a Muslim organization based in Germany.'

Went back to the little prairie town I grew up in. It was famous for the number of churches it had. 40 years ago there Catholic, UCC, Anglican, Lutheran, Mennonite and a few other churches. For all intents a purposes there remain two churches. The Catholic and the Mennonite. The Mennonite church is the de facto protestant church since all the members of the UCC, Anglican, Lutheran etc have been going to the Mennonite Church for quite a few years now.
↑ CGIT - "Canadian Girls In Training"; the old female-only youth group of the UCC, 'fore they moved up to United Church Women (UCW).
Knox Metropolitan United in Edmonton's Strathcona is a huge rectangular monochromatic concrete building. Every time I pass it, I say to myself "it's only missing a minaret".

"This same Marxist disease is beginning to infect the Lutheran church as well."
The largest group has embraced sodomy. I think the United Church has made it compulsory.
The United Church has had several proud Atheist Monitors or Church heads. From gay activists, to anti-Israel bigots. What does that tell you?
Its neither a Church nor United. Most Christians left decades ago. They believe everything Marxist, but deny the Bible or its Doctrines.
I doubt even most of them know Jesus was a Jew.
If a fellow ever left the UCC for a real Christian religion, he'd probably insist on baptism by emersion - just to wash the stain away...
Sorry, that should have been immersion...
The United (Untied) Church of Canada was on this path long before Israel became a state in 1948. It was the merger of several denominations from the classsical liberal tradition in the 1920's that formed the UCC; it was NEVER a truly conservative group & it's trajectory was set from the beginning.
Denominations don't merge organizationally because they are improving, but because they are dying.
"The comment came in response to the release Tuesday of a United Church report on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that calls for a boycott of Israeli goods produced in what the authors call illegal Israeli settlements, including East Jerusalem."
I think I'll just boycott their Jew-hating Church instead.
"Denominations don't merge organizationally because they are improving, but because they are dying."
Close Scott Jacobsen but the reason Churches merge is because they can't see enough theological difference between the merging sects. The Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregationalists couldn't intellectually support their very different points of view. The same caving happened when they faced secular threats like ordination of women, gays or even the defining belief of all Christians, The Divinity of Jesus Christ. As a friend of mine, who grew up attending the UCC once said, "I had no idea that Jesus was God. I came to believe that Albert Schweitzer was god since we spent so much time worshiping him in UCC Sunday School.
Joe: exactly. When a supposedly Calvinist (Presbyterian) denomination can't see the important differences between itself & an Arminian one (Methodist), it is dying, which is how I meant my comment.
Liberalism kills more than just economics.
The Episcopal Church in the US is even worse than Canadian Anglicans. However, there a group is fighting back. They've walked away from church buildings, formed new parishes and dioceses, and is transmitting the historical orthodox Anglican faith. Apparently, Lutherans and others are also having the same split. See the American Anglican Council for US information.
There is also a split among Canadian Anglicans, with various parishes going different ways. The Anglican Church in North America seems to be umbrella group for orthodox Episcopalians and Anglicans. For those of us 'orthodox' Christians of various denominations, these are indeed interesting times.
UCC itself predicts it will not exist within 10 to 20 years. Anglicans are following them down the leftist social activist path, and the Lutherans are racing to catch up. I predict all three of them will disappear in my lifetime, the only ones left will be those congregations who break away.
Decimation of Christian denominations is what happens when you let the tail -- all the ists: feminists, Marxists, homosexualists -- wag the dog.
'Doesn't work.
batb, exactly!
It is sad that the forces destroying the once great denominations stole those denominations from faithful believers. Seminaries, Universities, churches, founded on faith were hijacked by unbelief, and are now driven into the ditch.
Fortunately, the kind of mind and spirit that created good and wise institutions will do so again.
"NDP at prayer" An Oxymoron.
Scott Jacobsen
You might add to the list . Universities,Charities,Schools,Hospitals,Scouts. Name it & some secular group or government has stolen it to gain & centralize power.
Almost all of what we think Government runs was one time part of different Church's. Least ways sponsored by them. Till modern Secular society took them over with our own money after taxation was legalized in WW1
