"TALLAHASSEE — A federal judge rejected a request from the Obama administration to put an immediate stop to the state’s non-citizen voter purge program.

"The Justice Department had asked for a restraining order, arguing that the program attempting to remove 2,600 non-citizens from the voter rolls violated federal voting law that prohibits the systemic removal of voters 90 days before an election."

Emily in DC makes some predictions about the fallout from tomorrow morning's Supreme Court decision on Obamacare, and adds --

"I hope, if the mandate goes down, someone on television cries. My guess is Ed Schultz, but I’d be willing to extend that guess to Andrew Sullivan, though that’s more of an outside bet. I also tend to believe that Barack Obama will openly criticize the court because he believes his voting bloc is dumb enough to think the Court gives two sh*ts what he thinks and isn’t already on it’s way to Barbados for a well-deserved vacation, and despite being a 'Constitutional Law professor' has little to no concept of how this whole thing actually works, a character flaw he’s demonstrated before. And hopefully no one will burn cars, though I can’t say I expect much from political discourse anymore.

What happens when the nanny state gets involved in search and rescue?

Well it was demonstrated in Elliot Lake recently that people may have to die to satisfy regulatory and disaster management protocol from outside the community. Time and risk assessment was vital in this case ( as in most) and it was wasted by following copious regulations and mandated chains of command. People died waiting for recue command to untangle their red tape cluster frig.

My Gut feeling tells me this story has deeper implications – we see McGuinty immediately making apologetic mewling noises because he’s aware his nether regions are nekkid and swinging in the breeze. Seriously, Ontario would your really trust piblic safety or your own life to this political lizard.

I thought that the atheists taunting the Bearded Menace with "ZZ Top, ZZ Top", self-identifying as infidels and asking "Where are the women?" was particularly amusing.

Highly recommended: Fjordman's essay The Price of European Immigration, published at Danish site Snaphanen, which look at the class division within the immigration debate: on one side, "those representing the political and media establishment and the upper classes", i.e. people who don't actually live in the immigrant areas, and could afford to move if they had to, and on the other side the less-well-off, for whom it seemed that "the entire world suddenly moved into their street and took over their children's local playground."

Since "the educated classes enjoyed a virtual hegemony over public debate", he notes, "they were able to define all opposition (to open borders) as hate and intolerance."

He uses the following metaphor:

When the Titanic during her maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean struck an iceberg just before midnight on 14 April 1912, the first people who could see the water pouring in were the third-class passengers who happened to be situated closest to the waterline. Meanwhile, the richest passengers at the top were drinking fine cognac long after the ship had started sinking. They didn’t realize what was going on for quite some time, because they were further removed from the physical problem. The poor passengers still unfortunately suffered the highest fatality rates, because the wealthy benefitted from having privileged access to the lifeboats.

British blogger David Thompson left a choice comment this morning in the "More Pavilions At Folkfest" thread (it was caught in the spam filter, unfortunately, but has now been published) that includes a link to the full video of the exchange between David Starkey and Laurie Penny.

A few years ago in Vancouver a small boat capsized trapping someone inside. The search and rescue guys were there ready to go down and get the guy out. But protocol says there has to be two divers in order to go down and there was only one so the diver was ordered NOT to rescue the poor sot who eventually drowned.
Now the govt is closing the Kirsilano coast gaurd station and everyone is having a shit-fit.But unless conditions are absolutely correct they won't attempt a rescue anyway.

Re, the Danish Immigration article, I noted some similarities with a previous article linked on SDA about how the poorer German people are unable to afford the energy to light and heat their homes because of the push for less effective and more expensive energy sources in the name of CO2 reduction. People who are wealthier can afford to dabble in ventures based on emotional or ideological premises. In fact, they're probably poised to benefit if they involve themselves in providing certain services (solar panels, wind turbines, writing favorable propaganda) and benefiting from subsidies as often as not. In a similar way, there are people who benefit from immigration and they are not responsive to the needs and wills of the citizens. They can afford to maintain their distance, whereas the poor sods whose lives are invaded, have no choice at all.

Obamacare has been upheld almost in total (a minor piece got carved off the Medicaid expansion). The mandate survives on a 5-4 vote. ROBERTS cast the deciding vote in favor.

That smug bastard Obama will be preening for the cameras today. Gonna make me want to throw up.

America's descent into fiscal oblivion, if it wasn't already assured, is certainly at warp speed now.
