This evening, we revisit Billy Idol's completely unreasonable 1987 Grammy performance of To Be A Lover, during which the editing room made hasty cuts to "above the waist" shots.

Reader tips and stuffy old prude outrage both welcome in the comments.

"Canadian plane-crash investigators have been called in by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration — the two main U.S. air-safety agencies — after a fatal mid-air collision this week near Washington, D.C., that, bizarrely, involved pilots from the NTSB and the FAA themselves."

Way to go a-holes!

Around the same time, I attended an INXS concert at a small venue in Ottawa. Best part was Hutchence changed leather pants (different colours) 5 times. The music really didn't matter after that. Not to sound like a dirty old lady but...why do young men these days wear their pants around their hips? It's too bad young ladies don't know what their missing, or they might encourage the guys to wear a nice tight pair of jeans and occasionally leather pants.

For the good old days.

2nd their - should be they're

why do young men these days wear their pants around their hips?

It is interesting how so many assert their individuality by being the same...

Believe it or not, the fashion of wearing your pants half falling off started because kids WANTED to look like convicts. When you go to jail they take your belt and shoe laces off you, so your pants are falling off all the time. It says how degenerate our society has become when kids want to look like convicts.

Courtesy of a friend's boyfriend, we listened to Idol, Guns 'N Roses and similar bands when in the car. My favorite band of the era was Def Leppard. A bunch of us went to a Def Leppard concert when we were in high school. I remember two of us getting stuck in bathroom with a faulty lock at a small town gas station in-between Rosetown and Saskatoon. After a humorous and giggly couple of minutes we managed to free ourselves and make it to the concert on time. Fun concert.

I really want somebody to say something stuffy and prudish now. I know someone is outrageously outraged. Come on people. I mean, Vera Lynn never danced around like that (did she?).

“Alison Redford 'advancing Alberta's interests' at elite gathering” – Vancouver Sun.

There you have it to all those Alberta nitwits that voted for the UN in the last election.
Alberta Premier Alison Redford will be attending the Bilderberg meeting in Virginia to discuss UN Agenda 21 and help plan the loss of Albertan sovereignty from the Global elites.

Agenda 21 will eventually have everyone off their own private land and living in overcrowded city tenement buildings with a lower floor convenience store and a commuter train station within a few blocks.

Welcome to Singapore Alberta you voted for it, now you have it!

I think Lee Richardson doing the job of both the Intergovernmental Affairs minister and the premier in talking to Ottawa will be more expensive for Albertans in the long run (as referenced in Readers' Tips yesterday and Wednesday), but knock yourself out.

Well it's about time.

I miss Dubya!

Here is the C-Span coverage of the unveiling of the official White House portraits of George W. and Laura Bush.

Dubya (start at 12:53 for his remarks) was altogether gracious, self-effacing, and very funny: and he got in some (well deserved) digs at the Obamas—but with wonderful humour!

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/WBushPo

Both Dubya and Laura kept referencing those who’d supported them, including all the fine, ordinary American patriots who make up the USA: they kept shining the light away from themselves. Bravo/Brava, to two class acts!

Someone mention Vera Lynn? Listening to her on my cds still brings a tear to my eyes. Billy Idol make me want to puke. Guess I am getting old.

I'm with you (again) Ken...not so much the Vera Lynn part. My 80's band was Sharon, Lois and Bram. I had idea who Billy Idol was.

An Edmonton teacher had the nerve to give a student a zero for not handing in work. Can you imagine? He has been suspended and expects to be fired.
one report here

Oh, and my best Billy Idol memory: from when he was still called "Generation X", maybe 1983-ish. He drank an entire 2-6 of Wild Turkey bourbon on stage, and kept falling off into the crowd. People would push him back up on stage and he would keep going.

It was impressive in some kind of weird way.

Put me down as a stuffy old prude, and also a music lover, but as Noel Coward noted:Strange how potent cheap music is. Especially to the tone deaf.

Here is an Albertan to be proud of:

While old Frump, Alta Al stomps at the Romney owned Marriot hotel in Virgina with the Bilge 'e burger thugs, Danielle has something to say. Danielle is in a grand league with the best of people in the bleakest of times. Alta's (Disastrous) 'choice' (gal Al) thumbs her thick nose and sells Alta oil sands out to fairweather 'pals' in the Un (agenda 21). Thank-you Danielle!

A Toronto ferry terminal is being named for Jack Layton. It services tug boats

To those who claimed "Special Ed"'s left-wing views were related to his genetic background: Danielle Smith isn't English or American on her father's side. Danielle's paternal great grandfather was Phillipus Kolodnicki from Galicia - the immigration agent couldn't spell it.

Of left-liberalism, "Romanticism and the cult of youth (“Die Jünglinge”)".

Spengler:

"Among the notions in service of which the liberal mentality never ceases to tinker with life, none, in Spengler’s view, outshines in prominence the two linked notions of democracy and equality. The first of these finds its place ubiquitously in the self-descriptions of the modern nation-states, including the hangover monarchies, which are all republics in effect, and the hangover Communist dictatorships, which tend to call themselves democratic republics. The second achieves enshrinement as the middle term in the revolutionary trinity – liberté, égalité, et fraternité – first celebrated by the communist-insurrectionists of 1789. The anti-republican Spengler reserved a good deal of loathing for republics, especially for the Weimar Republic, whose demise he refused to mourn even in the same moment when he began criticizing the National Socialists. In The Hour, Spengler connects democracy with Romanticism and the cult of youth (“Die Jünglinge”) and, as he writes, with “a weak, self-detesting intellect.” For what underlying cause, in Spengler’s analysis, does the pimply advocate of the socialist utopia seek destructive transformation of the prevailing order?"

Student protests in Vancouver in support of their Quebec friends. Really, wtf?

Bilderberg, good or bad for freedom loving people such as libertarian conservatives?

Take a look at the flag in the sixth picture down being held by protesters at the Bilderberg conference site.

There are also numerous other articles on the right side column.

So the Alberta government decides to sue tobacco companies for $10 billion (even though said government allows toboacco sales and profits off of it through taxation) and lo and behold, guess whose ex-husband is a partner in the law firm hired?

I think it would be more appropriate to name the new waste treatment plant after him.

Bemused, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Her Majesty could field-strip that weapon, reassemble it and fire some more rounds. She served as an Army mechanic during WWII, and has retained an acute interest in things mechanical since then.

shocking to say the least, too funny but still an invasion.

Of the USA: Roger L. Simon.

"We’re not about to become Greece. We are Greece. Those of us who live in California are already Greece squared.

Liberalism is not only dead, it’s decomposed. We’d better inter it this November or we are all fools.

The thing about modern liberalism that most liberals don’t see is that it is so unbelievably square and conventional, so hopelessly old-fashioned. It is the most unexamined of unexamined wisdom. It’s not even an ideology. It’s a pose.

And leftism is just a massive form of social sadism that leads to the totalitarian state.

Meanwhile, according to White House Dossier, our president is off to hold six fundraisers in one day. Who are these people that are still giving money to this charlatan? What is their motivation? Cultural suicide? Or are they simply Solyndra-style gangsters looking for a billion dollar handout? Or are they waiting to hear the president’s new plan to “save health care” in his second term? (Can you imagine what that will be? Maybe someone will read it this time.)"

it wouldn't surprise me in the least that HRH could load and fire any weapon her Royal guard uses to protect her...maybe not detail strip or handle IA's and stoppages, but at least make it work...meanwhile, most of the liebrals and all of the dippers would literally pee themselves if they saw one lying on the ground in case it loaded itself and shot up an orphanage...firearms do that, you know...according to their logic.

best watch yourself, Kate, lest you end up with an invoice for all the tunes you share with us...

seems like a lot of gov't agencies filled with leftover liebral appointees are overdue for a massive purge and an injection of common sense...

http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/story/2012/06/01/music-tariff-recorded-copyright-board.html

Money can't buy love — but if you want some great tunes playing at your wedding, it's going to cost you.

The Copyright Board of Canada has certified new tariffs that apply to recorded music used at live events including conventions, karaoke bars, ice shows, fairs and, yes, weddings. The fees will be collected by a not-for-profit called Re:Sound.

For weddings, receptions, conventions, assemblies and fashion shows, the fee is $9.25 per day if fewer than 100 people are present and goes up to $39.33 for crowds of more than 500 people. If there's dancing, the fees double.

Karaoke bars will pay between $86.06 and $124 annually depending on how many days per week they permit the amateur crooning.

And parades, meanwhile, will be charged $4.39 for each float with recorded music participating in the parade, subject to a minimum fee of $32.55 per day.

Forget "commie scum". Forget "pathological liar". Elizabeth Warren is a $*(!ing joke. Just an idiot.

Yes, Ken K., it is kosher for out-of-province folks to sign the petition. There's accommodation for that and McGuilty needs to know how other Canadians feel about Bill 13. If it passes, it'll be one more nail (gay blade?) in the coffin of parental and religious freedom rights.
