Can't recall how many times I saw the Kinks - always a great show! There's a great new 5CD + DVD box set of BBC radio and TV shows coming out this summer, from the 60's all the way to their last BBC session in 1994.
I'm not really one to self-promote, but I had an interesting back-and-forth the other night with a pro-recycling candidate for Saskatoon city council, and I'd thought I'd share.
I tried to capture the meat of the debate here,.
Essentially, what I discovered was that this wannabe politician, who's been pimping the universal, mandatory recycling debate in this city for years, has no clue about the economics of waste management.
Shocking, I know.
And then Lola cuts off your appendages and sends them in the mail to political parties?
Gotta love the Kinks. I saw them in Toronto, 1970 or thereabouts, on the "Arthur" tour. Poor Ray couldn't finish his story about his sister moving there for all the piss-drunk Scots yelling at him to shut up and sing. At least he & Dave were getting along alright that night. Good times.
Eyes closed tight, palms covering the earphones...I'm so much younger when I listen to that song...LOL. The Bee Gees and now this...

Just what has this got to do with climate science?

The lead author of this chapter is a nutcase. He belongs to an organization called the Resilience Alliance which seems to be some kind of global governance organization.

The global warming jig is up and the gravy train has derailed. Their expertise on social issues is just as valid as it was on climate change. Their next gravy train is called Agenda 21 and they are all getting on board. The IPCC specialty is brainwashing and the UN is looking for World governance, so this is really a match made in heaven. Endless perks for life. Can you blame them for giving it their best shot ?

Of course, this decree'll just drive more "capitalist dogs" to emigrate to a safer country.
The story in the MSM on Luka Rocco Magnotta has slowly taken another (dubious) turn:
"Some time this spring, Mr. Lin [the dismembered man], a romantic and a Francophile cat lover, crossed paths with Luka Rocco Magnotta, a self-proclaimed porn actor and white supremacist with a reputation for torturing kittens" [emphasis mine].
"... In online postings, [Magnotta] was alternately portrayed as a Russian national and a white supremacist forced to flee Canada because of his racist beliefs" [emphasis mine].
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/body-parts-victim-was-a-romantic-looking-for-love/article2450023/
Given that Lin Jun registered for an Internet domain that suggested he was gay, it seems pretty clear that this was a gay-on-gay murder. However, now that it's being suggested in the media that Magnotta is a "white supremacist" I wonder if the story's going to be turned into a "racist" crime instead?

I saw the Kinks in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1983. Either google or my memory is wrong because I thought it was probably a few years after that and at Massey Hall, but google sdays they played MH in 1973 when I would have been 9 YO. Just two years ago their drummer Peter Quaife died in Belleville Ontario (relatively speaking just down the road from here)where he had lived for the latter part of his life working as a cartoonist.
I can't believe that Ray Davies was playing an acoustic guitar! He was, wasn't he?
I've tried to verify it, but I think he played Hugh's Room a few years ago.
Haven't thought about "Sleepwalker" for a good long time, William. I guess they'd started to trim their tour personnel right back to plain vanilla "rock'n'roll band" levels by that time.
Thanks for the memories.
As someone posted earlier about the Bilderberg meetings, Alison M. Redford was among the many participants. Why would Redford rank among the global power elite, unless you take into account Canada's vast oil reserves are located in Alberta. Maybe some of her constituents should ask her.

"The Late Man, according to Spengler, acts like a mouse-sized, self-adulating simulacrum of the god whose existence he dogmatically denies but whose role of unmoved mover he wants to assume. Guided by his theories, the Late Man, as liberal-socialist, tinkers persistently with the social and moral universes, while granting no possibility of unforeseen or untoward consequence in respect of his agenda. The Late Man, with his contempt for the past and his narcissism, cannot acknowledge that anything inherited, whether custom or institution, has ever justified its function. “It is no good,” Spengler has his specimen left-liberal say; “we could make it better,” and indeed, “here goes, let us set up a program for a better world!” In Spengler’s judgment, “the children’s Land of Do-Nothing” ranks in insipidity with the “World Peace” movement and the “Workers’ Paradise.”"

"Greece’s debt problems mutate into energy crisis"
"ATHENS – Greece’s debt crisis threatened to turn into an energy crunch on Friday, with the power regulator calling an emergency meeting next week to avert a collapse of the country’s electricity and natural gas system.
Regulator RAE called the emergency meeting after receiving a letter from Greece’s natural gas company DEPA, dated May 31 and seen by Reuters, threatening to cut supplies to electricity producers if they failed to settle their arrears with the company.
An energy crisis would add to the debt-stricken country’s political and financial strains, threatening households and businesses with power cuts ahead of a June 17 election which may decide if the country will stay within the euro.
The Greek government already risks running out of cash next month if it fails to receive fresh bailout funds from its lenders."

The latest 'bout socialism & Citoyen MulcairBloc.
"In case you haven’t guessed, here it is: Chevy Impalas and Equinox will no longer be assembled at the Oshawa production line because of the high Canadian dollar driven up by Alberta’s oil sands."
...-
"Terence Corcoran: Mulcair, GM, Pembina and the old left"
"News Friday that General Motors would be shutting down one of its two assembly operations in Oshawa at a loss of more than 1,500 jobs did not generate instant cries of Dutch disease. Give it time. A vast institutional network, fuelled by the old left, now sits in perpetual readiness to explain any sign of weakness in Ontario’s manufacturing base. In case you haven’t guessed, here it is: Chevy Impalas and Equinox will no longer be assembled at the Oshawa production line because of the high Canadian dollar driven up by Alberta’s oil sands.
The direct link between oil sands production and auto output crops up in a new report this past week from the Pembina Institute, the Calgary-based green think-tank. Titled In the Shadow of the Boom: How Oilsands Development is Reshaping Canada’s Economy, the Pembina report portrays the oil sands as a hazard to Canada’s economy, a scourge on the environment and an inflation-causing job killer, among other things.
That appealed to NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair, who instantly hailed the Pembina report during his fly-in fly-out visit to Alberta on Thursday, the day after (coincidence?) the report was published. “Because it was written by an Alberta think-tank, you have to believe what the Pembina Institute said yesterday. They did a very good, thorough review of the literature.”
Not quite, Mr. Mulcair. The boys at Pembina, who are nothing if not agenda-driven, did a very selective and biased ideological cherry-picking of the oil sands literature. The only sign of thoroughness is in their dogged search for bad economic theories and ideas that would serve Pembina’s well-funded prime objective, which is to undermine carbon-based energy development, halt oil sands production and paralyze much of the Alberta economy.
Pembina’s claim of an oil sands versus auto trade-off is a prime example of its selective capacities."

“Feds to Florida: halt non-citizen voter purge”
“About 58 percent of those flagged as potential noncitizens are Hispanics, Florida’s largest ethnic immigrant population, a Miami Herald analysis found. Hispanics make up 13 percent of the overall 11.3 million active registered voters.
Independent voters and Democrats are the most likely to face being purged from the rolls. Republicans and non-Hispanic whites are the least likely.”

Florida Tells Holder To Blow It Out His Ass
http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/348076/20120602/florida-voter-purge-state-defiance-justice-department.htm
(International Business Times) — Florida state officials will continue their quest to purge purportedly ineligible people from voter-registration rolls, a representative of Secretary of State Ken Detzner said Saturday, in defiance of objections from the U.S. Justice Department and county officials who say the policy violates two federal voting laws.

MA Democrats: No Entry to Convention Without Photo ID
On Saturday, Massachusetts delegates will meet in their state's Democrat party convention. The votes of these delegates will determine whether there are primary elections for their party nominations. With so much at state, Democrats have decided to implement Voter ID requirements:
A PHOTO ID WILL BE REQUIRED TO ENTER THE MASSMUTUAL CENTER
Wait, what? Democrats tell us that photo ID requirements disenfranchise minority voters, who, inexplicably, have limited access to photo IDs. Yet, at their own convention, they insist that all delegates provide a photo ID to even have access to the convention floor. When their own party is at state, it seems their priorities are somewhat different that their rhetoric suggests.
If the Democrats actually believe the rhetoric from people like Ben Jealous, then they have disenfranchised scores of potential delegates with this photo ID requirement. If, on the other hand, they instituted the photo ID requirement to ensure the integrity of the votes of the party delegates, they should repudiate the NAACP and work to ensure that their own rules carry through election day.
Voter ID is good for me, but not thee is not a winning campaign slogan.
