Can't recall how many times I saw the Kinks - always a great show! There's a great new 5CD + DVD box set of BBC radio and TV shows coming out this summer, from the 60's all the way to their last BBC session in 1994.

I'm not really one to self-promote, but I had an interesting back-and-forth the other night with a pro-recycling candidate for Saskatoon city council, and I'd thought I'd share.

I tried to capture the meat of the debate here,.

Essentially, what I discovered was that this wannabe politician, who's been pimping the universal, mandatory recycling debate in this city for years, has no clue about the economics of waste management.

Shocking, I know.

Gotta love the Kinks. I saw them in Toronto, 1970 or thereabouts, on the "Arthur" tour. Poor Ray couldn't finish his story about his sister moving there for all the piss-drunk Scots yelling at him to shut up and sing. At least he & Dave were getting along alright that night. Good times.

The upcoming Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report will contain a chapter titled Human Security. According to an official outline, this will examine the following topics:

Social and economic activities, including employment
Education
Inequalities, gender, and marginalized populations
Culture, values, and society
Indigenous peoples
Local communities
Local and traditional knowledge
Migration and population displacement
Conflict
Community resilience

The lead author of this chapter is a nutcase. He belongs to an organization called the Resilience Alliance which seems to be some kind of global governance organization.

The focus seems to be global governance, hierarchies, and transformative change. As far as I can tell there’s nothing remotely scientific about panarchy. It’s pure politics.

Having read through the nebulous gobblygook on the Alliance’s panarchy web page a few times, I don’t feel one iota better about the fact that Adger is now in charge of an IPCC chapter.

The global warming jig is up and the gravy train has derailed. Their expertise on social issues is just as valid as it was on climate change. Their next gravy train is called Agenda 21 and they are all getting on board. The IPCC specialty is brainwashing and the UN is looking for World governance, so this is really a match made in heaven. Endless perks for life. Can you blame them for giving it their best shot ?

The story in the MSM on Luka Rocco Magnotta has slowly taken another (dubious) turn:

Given that Lin Jun registered for an Internet domain that suggested he was gay, it seems pretty clear that this was a gay-on-gay murder. However, now that it's being suggested in the media that Magnotta is a "white supremacist" I wonder if the story's going to be turned into a "racist" crime instead?

I saw the Kinks in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1983. Either google or my memory is wrong because I thought it was probably a few years after that and at Massey Hall, but google sdays they played MH in 1973 when I would have been 9 YO. Just two years ago their drummer Peter Quaife died in Belleville Ontario (relatively speaking just down the road from here)where he had lived for the latter part of his life working as a cartoonist.

I can't believe that Ray Davies was playing an acoustic guitar! He was, wasn't he?

I've tried to verify it, but I think he played Hugh's Room a few years ago.

Haven't thought about "Sleepwalker" for a good long time, William. I guess they'd started to trim their tour personnel right back to plain vanilla "rock'n'roll band" levels by that time.

As someone posted earlier about the Bilderberg meetings, Alison M. Redford was among the many participants. Why would Redford rank among the global power elite, unless you take into account Canada's vast oil reserves are located in Alberta. Maybe some of her constituents should ask her.

The only sign of thoroughness is in their dogged search for bad economic theories and ideas that would serve Pembina’s well-funded prime objective, which is to undermine carbon-based energy development, halt oil sands production and paralyze much of the Alberta ­economy.

Pembina’s claim of an oil sands versus auto trade-off is a prime example of its selective capacities."

MA Democrats: No Entry to Convention Without Photo ID

On Saturday, Massachusetts delegates will meet in their state's Democrat party convention. The votes of these delegates will determine whether there are primary elections for their party nominations. With so much at state, Democrats have decided to implement Voter ID requirements:

A PHOTO ID WILL BE REQUIRED TO ENTER THE MASSMUTUAL CENTER

Wait, what? Democrats tell us that photo ID requirements disenfranchise minority voters, who, inexplicably, have limited access to photo IDs. Yet, at their own convention, they insist that all delegates provide a photo ID to even have access to the convention floor. When their own party is at state, it seems their priorities are somewhat different that their rhetoric suggests.

If the Democrats actually believe the rhetoric from people like Ben Jealous, then they have disenfranchised scores of potential delegates with this photo ID requirement. If, on the other hand, they instituted the photo ID requirement to ensure the integrity of the votes of the party delegates, they should repudiate the NAACP and work to ensure that their own rules carry through election day.

Voter ID is good for me, but not thee is not a winning campaign slogan.
