Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?

Cloward-Piven conspiracy theories grow more credible by the day.

While we were wringing our hands over the Obamacare SCOTUS fiasco, he went and reinstated a 27-year offshore drilling moratorium, effectively putting the entire continental shelf off-limits to new oil and gas exploration until 2035.

Anybody else starting to get scared?

Saudi princes and OPEC are delighted...

Sorry mike mccormick but my scared pony left the stable about the first time I ever heard of Obambam. I knew nothing about him and didn't care about him until I heard of some publisher wanting this guy to write an autobiography. From what I gathered this guy had done nothing in his life yet the publisher was going to give him a ton of money to write an autobiography. Something twigged in my mind that indicated that there were nefarious forces afoot about to launch an all out attack on the US using the US government to accomplish it. So far I have seen nothing in or about Obambam that would indicate otherwise.

A 27 year moratorium is just another commie fantasy. He's got till January.

I hate to say it but I think your wrong.
There are too many voters at the public teat who think that they would loose their entitlement.
The same way the libs and the dippers killed Canada the dem's are bent on killing the U.S.

Look on the bright side. It makes the US more dependent than ever on Canadian supplies. Of course we have the small problem of his political supporters opposing new supply from Canada at every turn, but I suppose you can't have everything.

Another way to consider this is that it's the new greenhouse gas reduction strategy. Carbon tax, failed. Carbon trading, failed. Renewables, failed. Electric vehicles, failed. Nuclear development, strangled. So what's left? Stop any new fossil fuel development anywhere.

The only problem the Obama administration has now is to figure out how to export this policy to the rest of the world. Well, they successfully exported deflation over the past 10 years, maybe they believe they can export this loser as well.

A little like Obamba reinstating the Patriot Act on may 06/12. - Crickets from the left.

They really must love the new National Defense Authorization Act that he signed into law on Dec 31 2011, while the left partied on for New Years.

Namely - Military detentions of American civilians in the US without due process, and indefinite detention without civil representation, Constitutional or civil legal rights.

Hope & Change - He's your man!

If Americans vote for this nut, than all I can say is like Albertan's voting in a known UN flunky. You deserve what you got.
Speaking of Redford how did you folks who voted for her feel now that she back flipped on Wages for MLA's. Indeed with scorn & contempt flipped you the bird.
Bringing back the golden pensions that King Ralph got rid of , plus increasing a debt of 13 billion when just 5 years ago we where debt free.
Bringing in laws that presume your guilty?
This is what you get for voting in Marxists. Hope your proud.

I don't know why no one sees this. The USA will buy all the oil it can from the ME because all the big money in the US is so much invested in their oil fields. That is now big money makes money in the US and they don't care that they are supporting Muslims to kill US troops. The US will not buy Can. Oil or drill their own as long as they can make money off the blood of US troops. They support Oby because he is Muslim and will keep their coffers full. Big money gives a shit about the USA.

sda continues to amaze, Kate! You're ahead of every conservative American blog, with the exception of the link and the "Lonely Conservative" to which it links.

Not that any of its cheerful reading to cap off a dismal week, the only consolation being I don't think it will play well for him between now and November.

It's a common misunderstanding that the USA is dependent on Middle East oil. It's Europe and East Asia that are dependent on Middle East oil. The USA imports most of its oil from Canada, Mexico, South America and West Africa, along with its still substantial domestic supply. The American military presence in the Middle East is more out of recognition of the region's strategic importance to the world as a whole, moreso than in its narrower national interests. The only thing it ever gets for its trouble is derision and hatred. As an American I'd rather see our military oriented more toward the Pacific, and let the Europeans start paying for their own defense and strategic interests.

Tony W I would saw that most of the Rep are singing from the same page as the dems (much like the Liberanos and the PCs). Mitt is just like Joe Who (clark), no spine, no mind - dense as a London fog. The other one (Barry/Pieeair) is a Communist. Americans have a real option (as we did, with Presto Manning) for real recovery: Ron Paul - that is all.

mike mccormick @ 1:18 PM:

Nope, but I just keep buying the real precious metals every chance I get. They are brass, lead, and blued steel.

It is going to get much worse before it gets better. I intend to be as prepared as well as I can.

KYPD,

Miss anthropy:

The us like all countries that depend on oil to make products and deliver services depends on ME oil either directly or indirectly. Oil is a fungible product - its price is determined everywhere in the world by the global supply and demand curve. When ME oil is reduced or at risk the price goes up and the US and similar economies suffer. The uS suffers more than its competitors because it is signifcantly more reliant on fossil energy for transport.

Texas at 4:39: Ditto over here in Miami.

Texas : Buy food. You will need it.

Was out driving today and I had the misfortune of ending up behind a Chevy Volt. Traffic was backed up for a mile behind the 20 mph go cart. I have to admit it wasn't a bad looking car, nut so was the Pinewood Derby car I built in the Cub Scouts.

a@c @ 5:13PM:

Yes, and water, and a water purification method of some kind.

Don't get me started. There are a ton of things to put away for a "really bad day". I have been slowly packing stuff away since 2008, and have a fairly good stash of supplies "just in case".

So yeah. Food. Check.

Reginald I hate to tell you this but the proper name for the Volt you followed is the Obambam Buggy. In a few years when Obambam has shut down the power grid the good folks can mount a pole on the front of the jalopy and use a couple of horses to drag it just like the old Bennett Buggies of yore.

The US does not pay 'world oil price' for Cdn oil. There is a surplus of Cdn crude at the midwest terminals like Cushing OK, and Cdn crude is sold at a discount. Learn about NAFTA for the details.

Texas et al.. In my visits around the blogs, I am seeing the fear of the future start to show. Not a pleasant view.

Texas-

Water is an engineering problem, not a scarcity issue. Note the Israelis have few problems with desalination.

The other problem with this little moratorium is that most of the shale gas is in private hands already and the drilling has almost come to a halt.

Inventory is now the buzzword, not discovery. Markey is trying to figure out how to offshore it before the pipelines can be modified to transship, with excess government tarrifs, naturally.

More on this later.

MKelley, that's a good one.

I think it's beyond obvious now that Obama is as energy-savvy as someone who is not energy-savvy. Sorry. I couldn't think of a better quip there.

Happy Canada (Dominion) Day, everyone.

Melinda,

Tell the people in the desert southwest that water isn't a scarcity issue.

On the subject of water purification, check this out.

White America is realizing that they have a racist president that hates white people.
What a surprise.

Texas-

Dip that Colorado River pipeline into the Pacific and reverse it, instead of LA stealing 2/3rds of the water that would have flowed there. That's engineering.

Nile desertification is going to be smidge harder to reverse.

Missanthropy @ 4:16;
The ME produces about 25% of world crude consumption. It is the backbone of OPEC which indirectly controls the price of world crude. The USA presence in the ME is a counterweight to those forces who would control that oil for their own political priorities. Even Russia which is a net exporter would love to determine who got oil at what price. China's consumption is increasing in double digits yearly.

It is American self-interest that keeps the USA in the ME but I agree with you that the Euros have gotten a free ride for decades. I did not agree with Canada's particpation in Libya and most certainly will not in Syria. ME tribalism combined with UN corruption makes one want to gag. By the way I supported Iraq and Afganistan until the Allies thought they could re-invent democracy there. I think the USA now realizes that strategic warfare with an in/out gameplan is the better alternative. In that light I would support beheading Iran as well.

It is getting more clear every day that Obama wants to stop domestic and Canadian crude because of his betters in the middle east. The first clue was bowing to the Saudi king and relying more and more on middle east oil. Some Americans blame BIG OIL,just remember that the biggest oil is Saudi Arabia and they want $100 a barrel oil.American and other foriegn companies just provide the know how for ARAMCO to market their production.

Mr Obama, Mr President, Sir: "Oh say can you see".... a hair's breadth past your freaking nose..."in the dawn's early light"?

OOPS, comment at 2:14 PM should read "BY" the dawn's early light!

Between the US shale formations and the Bazhenov Shale in Siberia, which are 80 times larger than the US shale deposits (estimated), I would wager that petroleum prices will remain under pressure for some time to come, as in centuries.

This math is fun!
