Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?

The smell of singed air here is inescapable. Less than 50 miles west of my neighborhood, the latest wildfire has spread across 1,100 acres. It’s the fifth active blaze to erupt in our state over the past month. But ashes aren’t the only things smoldering.

Some footage I shot of the smoke over Fort Collins on June 10th.

It just means more work for Canadian fire crews and aircraft. Cancelling a contract in the middle of fire season and putting a company out of business does strike one as a little counterproductive, even for Obama's bureaocrats.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The smell of singed air here is inescapable. Less than 50 miles west of my neighborhood, the latest wildfire has spread across 1,100 acres. It’s the fifth active blaze to erupt in our state over the past month. But ashes aren’t the only things smoldering. "

Be careful, Michelle. Nancy Pelosi will be calling you a racist, before you know it.

9 water bombers for the whole US?? Mind you the federal idiots own the land in the US while the provinces own it in Canada. Apparently the Democrats could give a crap about flyover country.

Paris Hilton on:

"Liberalism is HOT!"

Paris Hilton off:

Does anyone know what motivated the federal government to cancel the contract? Was there a reason that seemed to make sense -- to Washington, anyway -- at the time?

Nothing that these dim socialist bulbs have done has made sense since day one.

Here is your sign. "Today the planet begins to heal and the oceans begin recede."

How anyone one the planet or in the universe can hear that and not think man this guys a complete idiot is mind numbing.

So I guess forsest fires that spew carbon into the air big time is ok it is just carbon from people being productive that maters.

Firefighting is not the USG's job. Let them burn that's the best way to avoid future fires that are much worse.

A guy at work was a logger over in Idaho for many years. He says that fire is now the primary means of forest management on US government lands. He also told his son not to follow in his footsteps. A blue-collar profession destroyed means nothing to the Sierra Clubbers/Democrats, though.

LAS, it's a little too late to revert to natural fires in forests. I agree that in the natural environment forest fires are frequent but they aren't as bad as the fires caused by misguided policies which have let huge amounts of combustible materials to build up in forests. The fires in such cases are far worse than natural forest fires which, in western forests, are more akin to minor grass fires which don't destroy all of the trees. We just have to look to the Kelowna fires of 2003 to see what happens when fuel builds up in improperly managed forests.

The solution to the problem is logging which will cause watermelon head explosions, but I'd rather hike in a selectively logged forest rather than one that has totally burned down. With houses being at risk from forest fires, there needs to be a large fleet of water bombers to deal with fires at the interface of human habitation and forests. For anyone who wants to live in the woods, clearing away trees for 100 yards or more around the house is the best solution as well as having a concrete house with a steel or slate roof.
