A Tale of Two Cities

Via: Izaak: "25 Years ago, Kennesaw, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, was nicknamed "Guntown USA" by Art Buchwald ridiculing the town for passing an ordinance which required every head of household to own a gun.

25 years later, violent crime in Kennesaw is nonexistent.

Meanwhile, Morton Grove, IL, the town that banned all gun ownership and equal number of years ago continues to have violent crime --including murder."

Must just drive the gun grabbers nuts that not effing one of their schemes has had a positive affect. Interestingly, there was a media piece a short while ago that stated that Chicago was more dangerous than Kandahar, and had the stats to prove it... hey, isn't Chicago where bammy & company came from, with an almost total ban on guns..... lol.

It goes along with the latest FBI report. the bad guys are afraid of armed citizens. Wake up Canada!

If I remember, morton grove was renamed "moron grove". Looks like it still fits.

Art Buchwald, obviously not as smart as he portrayed himself to be.

Almost a relief to read through that article and the one above it regarding Reagan with no mention of global warming, no carbon footprints.. just the regular 80's idiocy.

A quick scan of the wiki entries for the two towns shows that Morton Grove has a higher proportion of white people (statistically much less violent per capita than black people) at 73.9% vs 64.2% and less people living in poverty 2.7% vs 11.1%.

Can we conclude then that the rate of gun ownership is the determining factor for violent crime rather than ethnicity and poverty?

An armed society is a polite society. - Robert Heinlein.

P.S. Wikipedia says the handgun ban was overturned in 2008 by Morton Grove council.

Fun - but correlation is not causation.

Morton Grove, by the way, is 15 miles from Chicago.

Kennesaw, which overturned the ban in 2008, has a violent crime rate of 0.77 per 1,000 and a property crime rate of 23.74. Nearby Acworth, which has an ordinance requiring every household to own a rake, has a violent crime rate of 0.69 per 1,000 and property rate of 21.49.

Morton Grove has a violent crime rate of 0.47 per 1,000 and property rate of 17.09. Actually, lower than the above gun and rake owners.

Kennesaw is listed as 34 out of 100 rating for 'safest' while Morton Grove is listed as 50 out of 100 for safest.

Data from neighborhoodscout dot com. This same site will list the 100 most violent cities in the US, and the 100 safest. Nice site.

Kennesaw has had one incident which resulted in a death by gunshot in the past 25 years - a disgruntled employee shooting his former place of employment.
compared to how many deaths by gunshot in Morton Grove??

It’s funny how violent crime reduces when “non-victims” fight back.

Liberals are perpetual victims, it goes well with their drama queen self absorption and general loathing of themselves and the world.

They are by varying degrees masochistic and sadistic by nature. It is the prime reason why they won’t leave the rest of us alone.

Here's 2 links to some pretty comprehensive demographics, which you need to really get insight into the effectiveness of the law

http://www.city-data.com/city/Morton-Grove-Illinois.html

http://www.city-data.com/city/Kennesaw-Georgia.html

Open the links in side-by-side windows, you can see economic, social, racial, and political differences/similarities...NOTE: Kennesaw's crime stats stop at 2005

That's OK...I want liberals to be unarmed. It will make things much easier when the SHTF.

mray

"I want liberals to be unarmed....."

My feelings exactly!

I find it disquieting to see as many of these hypocritical psychotic Liberals actually arming themselves and “prepping” these days. (Usually with a three day survival plan to last until the cafe’s and deli’s reopen and or steal everyone else’s food).

It’s going to make it tougher to be sure, especially when their guns and meager supplies fall into the hands of the “disaffected youth” that get cut off from masters handouts in the Liberal ghetto plantations.

It's still immoral to require people to own a gun (Obamacare mandate for guns). The evidence is still quite clear in that guns = safety.

Boy, was this Art Buchwald guy ever not funny. Was his stuff all like that? "Some hick named Virgil dun shot hiself, hyuck hyuck." Brilliant satire.

Kennesaw is adjacent to Atlanta, 8'th most violent city in the country.

Even the diversities have figured out that a color TV set is not worth a gaping hole in their gut.

Yeah well I'm not impressed with ET's comment....

This is the same ET that claimed a people, invented in the 1970's, had resided in the levant for centuries.

The Kennesaw experiment is like the rotting albatross hanging arounf the gun phobics/haters necks.

Mention it as an example of the fallacy of their urban mythology and they recoil like vampires exposed to holy water, hissing and hurling personal insults.

I love it!!

A small note.
Check and make sure your personal protection .30 calibre or bigger has sufficient oomph to go through the heavy wood composite doors they make these days.

Don't want to give the mistaken idea that you LET your assailant in.

GREAT Britain (?) what a laugh...

All readers should take the opportunity to pan over to the adjoining article "You Can Help Put Your Neighborhood On Stage." It's co-authored by a retired police chief and a reformed criminal.

Today it's ironic to see these two articles together.

Fun - but correlation is not causation.

ET reminds me of the leftist who suspected his wife of cheating. On following her he saw her accompany a man to his apartment, go upstairs with him. Saw the blind being pulled, and shadowy figures embrace...

"If only I could be sure...", he said.

fiddle - the 'leftist' got it wrong, but I can assure you I found his wife just about 'right'. (wink wink nudge nudge say no more!)

Not trying to be picky, but Morton Grove overturned the ban in 08, not Kennesaw.
