George Monbiot;

Energy policy in the United Kingdom looks like a jam factory hit by a meteorite: a multicoloured pool of gloop studded with broken glass. Consider these two press releases, issued by the Department of Energy and Climate Change last week.

Tuesday: the government's new energy bill will help the UK to "move away from high carbon technologies". Wednesday: applications for new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea have "broken all previous records". This is "tremendous news for industry and for the UK economy".

[...]

The new bill sets a limit for the amount of carbon dioxide that power stations can produce. This is 450 grams of CO2 for every kilowatt-hour of electricity. Compare it to the 50g which the Committee on Climate Change says should be the average produced by power stations in this country by the end of the 2020s, if the government is to meet its 2050 target.

Modern gas power stations produce less than 400g/kWh, so the new limit won't touch them. Worse, the level will be fixed – by primary legislation – until 2045 for power stations built today: in 33 years gas plants will still be allowed to produce more CO2 than they do at the moment.

Time to hide the knives in the Gore household.

He'll be devastated, assuming he is smart enough to figure out the obvious.

Wait - politicians doing things that don't matter, just to look good?

NOTIFY THE MEDIA!

Oh, wait...

I saw George MonBiot, but read Moonbat.
After reading the article I was relieved to see there was no error on my part.

Economic collapse eminent and they're still busy at the back side measuring what emanates.

In British speak; if you bung up peoples' arses they die.

So, he is complaining that government is using dodgy numbers and politically convenient definitions to the achieve a desired outcome. Karma, baby.

Live be government caprice, die by government caprice.

Monbiot - Moonbat

Potato - Potatto

Tomato - Tomatta

"like a jam factory hit by a meteorite"

Close enough. This morning I saw Juan Williams on Fox explaining that obozo's investment in green energy, even the the failures, was a good thing because the world is turning to green energy...etc.
Do these people willfully ignore reality?
He can argue whether it's right or wrong, but it's undeniable that the world is quietly and quickly strolling away from the green future.

"...in 33 years gas plants will still be allowed to produce more CO2 than they do at the moment."

Um... yay?

Beats the heck out of freezing. Perhaps the adults are slowly regaining control of the levers in the UK again??

If there is a bigger idiot on this issue than Monbiot, then God help him. Several years ago he was interviewed on CBC radio about his new book - one of his ideas for renewable energy was to install solar pannels right across the Sahara from Eqypt to Morocco to supply electricity to Europe. Gee, what could possibly go wrong with that idea.

We shall see, apparently.
Morocco chosen as location for German-led solar farm

November 15, 2011

Morocco has been chosen as the first location for a German-led, €400bn project to build a network of solar and wind farms across North Africa and the Middle East to provide 15% of Europe's electricity supply by 2050.

A coalition of companies including E.ON, Siemens, Munich Re and Deutsche Bank which is named ‘The Desertec Industrial Initiative’ (DII) have announced that "all systems are go in Morocco", with construction of the first phase of a 500MW solar farm scheduled to start in 2012.

George Monbiot again, eh?

Yawn.

Seems like a senior cabal of government people don't want Britons to compete at whether they'll freeze in the dark or starve.

Rotters.

There is an existential battle going on inside the fetid coagulation that is the current UK government. Realists are seeing that enviro policies are unaffordable, while enviros rant and rage against the cheapest forms of energy, fossil fuels. And, in particular, shale gas.

Watch this channel.

I'd like to see history of the term "moonbat" because I think Monbiot is the archetypical Moonba

Brilliant. Just Brilliant.

It must bother Georgie deeply that essentially everything he's advocated with respect to energy has turned to complete cr@p over the past five years or so. Kyoto down in flames, renewables tanking, temperatures not behaving according to green theory.

And now he and the rest of the green slime are being bit by governments using dodgy language to avoid stupid treaty commitments. I can't think of a time where governments have ever not done this, but it's always to causes which no longer have any political clout. This may be Georgie's real angst. The Greens just don't have the real push behind energy and environment issues the way they used to. It's been drowned by an ocean of red ink from spendthrift governments.

Dizzy, insane schemes like this come up at least twice a day, three times on Sundays. Morocco to Egypt, eh? Lovely idea. Maintenance will be a b!tch. Any idea what sand does to solar panels? And just how do they propose to get all this electricity to Europe. Teleport it? No sign of a transmission plan for this monstrosity. I love the wording "all systems are go". Who do these morons think they are, extras on a Star Trek set?

Not to mention the fact that two of the entities, Munich Re and Deutsche Bank are going to be up to their eyebrows in dealing with capital losses from Spain, Italy, Greece in a Europe where capital flows will have seized up completely. Methinks they will be just a little too busy trying to save the Euro.

I'll believe this when I see an MOU with breakup penalties. Otherwise, like most of Dizzy's disinformation, it's just more hot air.

Yes, they are lying bastards who only want their personal comfort - tax free if necessary. They are not stupid; they know their lies are lies. But they persist with them because they make loadsa-doh from them.

The traditional English word for such people is "charlaton"; I do not know the Brasilian word for this behavior.

Interesting................. I see postings by Robert of Ottawa at 10:10 - 10.13 - 10:17 and again at 10:48 however if I contribute a couple over the span of a few hours I get the old "you've posted just recently so wait a while before you post again" kind of treatment.

Kind of like the Left wanting to silence you. I know where I am not welcome - so .. like a true gentleman - I'll bit you A Dieu!

Showing your true colors, Kate.

Unlike George, a government has to occasionally make concessions to reality.

I had to wait to stop giggling before I could type...God, the hypocrisy. "See, we're doing the right thing, even if it's 9 times less than we're 'supposed' to be doing!

And different bob - don't let the virtual door hit you in the ass on your way out, you won't be missed - "showing your true colors Kate" is a stock phrase used by our resident troll(s) here. Take a hike, dizzy or whoever you really are!

// insane schemes like this come up at least twice a day //
Presumably you don't care to have your remarks taken literally.

// And just how do they propose to get all this electricity to Europe. Teleport it? No sign of a transmission plan for this monstrosity. //
Morocco is already linked to Spain
& from the link --
// Algeria is the next obvious country, due to its close proximity to Western Europe's grid. //

// Any idea what sand does to solar panels? //
You oughta let them know about the sand.

A critical 2009 commentary It's a staged 40-year project. The concerns seem to be mostly political.

I love how you can post several lines like that and still not actually SAY anything, diz. It's a pretty surreal experience seeing someone go though such contortions to avoid making any point whatsoever.

Michael H Anderson
I imagine that being you must be a "pretty surreal experience" at the best of times.
I realize that I have failed to respond to your several personal advisories on this & previous threads, & I regret that.
So here is something for you to chew on. [at the least it should save on carpet]
