Ice warnings halt U.K. rowers' Atlantic crossing

Morris said he hopes the cancellation of their voyage still draws attention to global warming and the melting of the polar ice caps.

"increased risk of death" - wimps. It's not an adventure if there isn't a risk of not coming back.

The mindless twits don't even get the irony of this.

Ya just can't make this stuff up, can ya?

You see they get to have it both ways

1) No ice, there is global warming
2) Lots of ice, there is global warming because the ice broke of 2 years ago because of global warming.

It's called springtime Morris, was he taught by that same bama beyotch in the last story? How did this world get so dumb so fast? Because of the massive failure of unions to forget education and secure higher wages only, teachers unions nurses unions auto-workers unions, they all elevate the stupidest to the leader spots, (Buzz Hargrove) and then they dictate to the others, they then get the compliant dullards in the media to report their stupidity as fact and "shazam" you have a new crop of fools. Roll the crisis of the year, the media complies, and the profets reap the profits.

More hard evidence climate change science/hysteria is bogus but the legislating juggernaught forges on. Not one government has halted or repealed carbon taxing as being based on a false objective.

It's not, and never was the AGW loons you had to fight, it's your own rapacious governments.

does wood come from trees and pollution do occure when trees are cut into slabs so why aren't they using their arms and legs instead without any use of rubber outfits because that too has oil/grease in it.

Savage says, "You can't fight Mother Nature, especially on the ocean..."

But you warn of global warming and I assume we should fight that, and fight with taxes?

Probably are pretty good rowers, but losers none the less.

"We row pretty much blind" seems to describe their blind support of this discredited scam. No matter how much solid, factual evidence is presented showing that AGW is a lie the left "rowing blindly" press on as its all about control and extracting money to punish our society for daring to be successful.

Given the ice slab broke off the glacier two years ago, couldn't this pair have taken a hard look at the ice predictions before increasing their carbon footprint by the voyage to Canada with their boat? After all, it's not that long since the 'Titanic' anniversary, and that was an ice issue, too.

Opps...again!!!!

No disrespect meant but are these guys effing stupid? I have rowed a boat and the strangest damn thing is that you turn around once in a while and look where in the hell your going. At sea, there are a lot less obstacles than on lakes.

I guess if you're peeing your pant for fear of hitting an iceberg at 2 knots you could opt for a mirror or TV.

Planned their trip for 18 months?

Dingbats.

All they need is one of these.

The Raymarine RD418D 4KW Digital Radar Dome provides superior target detection at a range up to 48nm. (48 nautical miles)
Widescreen Displays.

They would probably forget to turn the Widescreen Display around.

"You can't fight Mother Nature, especially on the ocean"

But ... but ... I thought we could warm mother nature and we already made all the ice melt ....

I'm so confused about this global warming/climate change/climate disruption/bull**** thing.

Well if there was really global warming wouldn't they be rowing across the Arctic Ocean? Sounds like they are simply trying to hitch on to a trendy cause to draw attention to their 'heroic feat'.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, to learn that there are icebergs off the coast of Newfoundland in May.

Any May, in any year.

This is a fine example of the state of degeneracy in Britain. Although this bunch of clowns could have come from Canada or the USA or some European state, they are representative of the 21st century leisure class (not really any different from the 20th century or the 19th for that matter).

They have nothing useful to do or contribute to society and undertake pointless adventures to fill their days. Not necessarily a bad thing if they just go do it on their own and leave the phony activist BS out of it.

Besides that ... as noted by one of the commenters above ... they pissed their pants over having to evade floating ice cubes at 2 kph. Putting them in a special category of not just useless people but useless clowns.

Britain ... circling the toiler bowl of history while clutching the flush handle.

Irony deficiency is a terrible thing.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Now I've never been to sea Billy, but I betcha that I could dodge an iceberg with a row boat.

The excuse offered up for the failure to launch ranks right up there with; I could be the most famous rodeo bronc rider in the world if the horses would just stop bucking.

Bloody cowards! The prospect of ice didn't stop Edward Smith back in 1912, in fact he didn't even slow down!

Nope, Morris( no relation to me!) should get into that rowboat and head for the North. Might have a chance to see some polar bears before global warming makes 'em extinct.

I don't think it's the big ones they are worried about, it's the "growlers", smaller flattish pieces that only weight a ton or two.

Very little of it shows above the surface, but coming down off a swell in a rowboat and landing on one would certainly ruin their day.

Yeah well...get back to basics....

Icebergs/growlers originate in TIDE-WATER glaciers.

These are outlet glaciers which under GROWTH pressure extend into tide-water and fracture due to tidal force because they are floating.

If the glacier was receeding there would/could be no icebergs/bergy bits. The ice would be up on the beach going drip drip not out in the bay going SNAP!

NERDS!

@9.32 bartinsky has the final answer on this one, and actually 99% of what is wrong with the world today.
"A new crop of fools everyday."

These fools left their sense of irony in the same place they keep their common sense.

"Not one government has halted or repealed carbon taxing" - no, money has no odour, and it is tasty;
and a lot of people want to pay these taxes. What is better than a tax which the taxed want to pay?

The probably apocryphal but still plausible ad:
"MEN WANTED: FOR HAZARDOUS JOURNEY. SMALL WAGES, BITTER COLD, LONG MONTHS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS, CONSTANT DANGER, SAFE RETURN DOUBTFUL. HONOUR AND RECOGNITION IN CASE OF SUCCESS. --- SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON"

What a pathetic bunch these latterday Limeys are!!

John Lewis
"What a pathetic bunch these latterday Limeys are!!"

They used to rule the world. Now they barely rule the UK. Has something happened to the developed world since the waterways are full of birth control pill residue?

"Morris said he hopes the cancellation of their voyage still draws attention to global warming and the melting of the polar ice caps."

I'm sure it will.

In a similar (icy) vein, I heard that a cute letter made it through the censors at our local newspaper. It said that re-electing Obama would be like the Titanic going back and hitting the iceberg a second time.

Perhaps Charles and Camilla will take up the challenge (please God).

The boat will be shipped back to England how? On a sailing ship perhaps? Or would they be so globally irresponsible as to put it on a fossil fueled ship?

@ Peter O'Donnell
I wouldn't count on Charles as he is a eco warrior in the wing nut catagory. Look for his very own section in here:
