I was at the Toronto District School Board "Futures" conference on Equity the last 2 days and it was every bit as frightening as you would imagine. 300 teachers gave race huckster Tim Wise a standing ovation after he concluded his idiotic rant (via Skype because his flight was fogged in) about how al the ills in the education system are caused by "white privilege" and we need to focus on and accommodate non-whites the way we do disabled people.

How do we "accomodate" students of different races? Are the answers for blacks in math easier? 2 + 2 = 3, 4, or 5? instead of 4 ?

The best way to accomodate poorly performing students would be to actually teach them. Set a a standard and have them achieve the standard.
If they are having trouble, make them go to Summer School. Not being able to play outside in the Summer would have been a great motivator to me to make sure I learned during the regular school year.
"Not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" That should be chiseled in stone over the entrance way of every school in multi-ethnic neighborhoods until the day bone-headed liberals actually get it. (Which is why stone will be the appropriate medium in which to inscribe it.) That and reading Thomas Sowell's, "Black Rednecks and White Liberals" should be mandatory for all teachers.

I am now middle-aged. Long before the various HRC's, "diversity" workplaces, "affirmative action" and all the masquerades of Orwellian equity, I was identified as a member of the oppressing "race, colour, creed, and sex" through a faulty education system and a liberal political system. To this day, when I meet a new person and they ask "who are you?" I identify myself in just that manner, regardless of the race, sex gender, or culture of the person to whom I am introduced. I do this now mostly for the entertaining look of shock and horror it produces but more so because it will probably be true long after I am dead. I am not now, nor will I ever be, seen as an "equal" in western society!
Many years ago, I was charged with developing an "affirmative action" policy for minorities seeking to become teachers. At each meeting I attended with "leaders of the community" I was given the direction that the policy should not be based on a lowering of standards or any way offer a "second-class" program. That is how the policy was written; recognizing that many minority students were, for a variety of historical, sociological, and cultural reasons, unable to compete directly with students from other backgrounds, we created a pathway for applicants to meet our entrance requirements. It often took an extra year, but the government offered essentially to pay the tuition and fees for the minority applicants.
The result has been that, over the past 15 years, we have graduated some excellent, hard-working, dedicated, and thoughtful minority teachers, but they can be counted one's fingers and toes. Far more popular are those programs that ignore their own admissions criteria for minority students, ignore academic and professional standards for minority students once they have been admitted, and actively enable unprofessional behaviour among those students.

Too true. For this reason I think we need two terms: 1) racist (a person who actually "hates" a particular race or religion) and 2) racialist, a person who puts undue focus on race intimating that identified groups are naturally inferior and need "helping" intervention. The racialist doesn't hate but cripples and kills with kindness.
Once again the totalitarian left reveals it's undying racism: they believe blacks are too stupid to compete with other races so there needs to be special government programs to help the poor primitive underdeveloped races. Such racism is disgusting.

Unfortunately we do have too many do-gooders on both sides of the political spectrum that have blurred the lines into one big mess, and it becomes hard to distinguish between the good and the bad.
We need to stay focused on the main instigators that use these same people many who are polar opposites politically and yet fight for the same cause for different reasons. All of which is to our overall detriment. Open borders, welfare, and multiculturalism are some prime examples.
The main instigators work through the UN as a global governing body and global policy maker for all of these issues. We need only to say NO to the UN and any mandates that they try to stuff down our throats to keep our heads clear and fight for the right causes. In the long term, regardless of their endless propaganda and “truth-speak” we will be fighting for the betterment of all peoples and societies.
The solution to this idiocy is obvious.
1 Eliminate teachers unions.
2 Eliminate tenure.
3 Private schools.

So, I've been proven right! I've known this about the TDSB for over 30 years [that TDSB personnel intentionally discriminate against Christianity].
It's utter nonsense and appallingly unjust, given that it's Christians, back in the 1800s, who established public education in Ontario, at the elementary and post-secondary levels -- education for everyone, not just other Christians.
Astonishingly, the TDSB doesn't seem to understand that many black people are Christian, as are East Indians, as are many from the Middle East. This idea that discriminating against Christianity is somehow "payback" to privileged whites -- who, for God's sake and with His help, established a democracy with public education and health care for all -- is totally wrong-headed and also punishes the many non-whites who are Christians and who send their children to public schools.
Behind all of these nefarious, anti-Christian discriminatory practices are the atheists in our midst -- and, of course, the petty, class-warfare brats who operate out of a sense of envy: If privileged whites can have it, we'll take it away from them and have it ourselves.
The problem, however, with this discriminate-and-snatch policy is that these envious losers give nothing back. They take, take, take and leave the system stripped and depleted of any real educational principles, values, and practices.
Is it any wonder that with all of the money pumped into education in Ontario, our students still struggle to be properly educated? Is it any wonder that so many of our students get to high school, then university, without having mastered even the rudiments of reading, writing, and arithmetic?
The real problem is these anti-Christian dolts and usurpers who think they can rob Peter to pay Paul. The answer is: Because that's what Marxists do these days. In fact, it's been going on since the 1920s.
When the working classes of Europe in the early 20th century failed to rise up and overthrow capitalism as Marxism predicted (because even the working class knows it's much better off under capitalism), the Marxists had to come up with something else. So they hit on the notion of recruiting the underclasses in western society to do the dirty work: racial minorities, women, gays, immigrants, and "victims" in general. THAT is why they've been harping on racism beyond all connection to reality for decades.
As usual, the leftists have been adept in exploiting genuine if generally overblown societal problems like racism in order to advance their own far more sinister agenda.

Extremely hypothetical: imagine a Star Trek-like transporter existed and transported all the white people out of North America. Would racial minorities' problems disappear? Of course not. There would be a rise in class warfare and there would still be violence, strife and all the other things that cause those communities to be fractured in the first place.

Like any commodity or service, education involves the exchange of money from consumers to providers.
If consumers don't feel they are getting good value they begin to look for alternatives, in this case, private schools. Parents want schools to focus on math, sciences, English, history and social studies, while the BCTF insists on propagandizing children with programs on "social justice," climate change, gay/lesbian/bi-sexual transgender and two spirited inequities, the inherent evils of capitalism and other 'progressive' shibboleths.
Let's call a spade a spade: The BCTF is the most hostile and socialist trade union in British Columbia and many families do not want to put their kids under the direction and care of a militant, social activist organization. Rather than offering what parents want, the BCTF tries to coerce government into reinforcing their monopoly by demanding the elimination of funding to private schools.
Parents aren't stupid. While paying 100% of their school taxes, they receive only 50% back if they choose private schooling. Yet increasing numbers of parents are choosing the alternative, despite that penalty and the additional tuition required to make up the balance. The division is clearly drawn.
In choosing alternative schooling for their children, parents are saying "we don't want what you are offering," while the BCTF is telling parents that should their militancy succeed their union will control education and "you'll take what we offer because there won't be any alternative allowed."
