The UN just announced that its favourite African megalomaniac, Robert Mugabe, and his Zambian sidekick, Michael Sata, have been appointed United Nations international tourism ambassadors in recognition of the promotion and development of tourism.(h/t Kevin)

They should also be immigration ambassadors for encouraging their populations to move to other countries to prevent starvation.
The Great Turtle Bay Farse continues unabated.
The UN once again showing its utter irrelevance. That gong show has got to end.
I'm not so sure Sata is a bad guy.
a different bob says it well.
Could be worse, they could decide to appoint Kim Jon Un as their new head of whatever group they want to take control of the internet. Not that it would surprise me.
I honestly thought it was a joke when I first read it.
My Dad lost everything he owned to Mugabe. Screw the UN.
Finally the UN gets it right. Mr. Mugabe has done wonders for tourism in his own country. Thanks to his guidance all the citizens of Zimbabwe are now exploring the natural wonders of the afterlife-an activity formerly reserved to the 40+ crowd.
Excellent news. ... I hope they're being paid billions of Z dollars. Did I say billions? Trillions I say, Trillions and more!
This episode is reminiscent of a column by Mark Steyn dealing with similar nonsense coming from Islam e.g., "Call us violent and we'll kill you." It's irrational only if you make the (false) assumption that the other side wants to engage in a rational discussion.
The members of the dictators' club couldn't give a hoot for a rational discussion about anything. It's about power. The behavior is akin to that of a domestic abuser who demands that his or her victim accept the blame for the abuser's own behavior no matter how violent and/or irrational. Likewise, the UN foists these absurdities on a gullible democratic west in order to play a power game which basically says, "We'll feed you this sh!t because we can, and you'll eat it and compliment the chef."
This farce called the UN is well past its best-before date. Time to throw it out.
"So the question that needs to be asked of the bureaucrats enjoying the tax-free scenery from the UN’s headquarters on Turtle Bay, is how does a destroyer of nations like Mugabe become a tourism ambassador? "
And the even more important question is; when will our politicians in the developed world stop funding this insane institution?
How much longer will Canada and the U.S. continue supporting this farcical fantasy, the UN?
E-mails to MP's.
Please tell me one more time why we continue to be part of this useless and costly organisation?
The UN dating the third string like an old courtesan that knows makeup and plastic surgery can no longer keep her on the A list.
And the even more important question is; when will our politicians in the developed world stop funding this insane institution?
What, you mean the same politicians who handed Rhodesia over to a communist thug for no reason beyond an utter loathing of the Christian civilization Englishmen had brought to Africa, and would (by all appearances) be only too happy to see the rest of the Commonwealth suffer the same fate?
Short of a celebration in their home countries of a Romanian-style Christmas, never. These servants of the Father of Lies knew exactly what they were about in Rhodesia, and what they are about in Israel---systematically destroying Christian and Jewish civilization with a view to replacing them with something more to their master's liking.
They used Sata in the press release to try and equate the two.
If anyone criticizes the statement, they are automatically saying that Sata is equal to Mugabe, and vise-versa. Nothing but a smear campaign.
Just like saying Michael Jordan and Dennis Rodman are great basketball players. The statement may be true, but to equate them as equals does nothing but leave my computer screen dripping with coffee.
The 1st World finances the Un...
The 3rd world (mostly despots and dictators) is the majority and generously provides corrupt, inept bureaucrats......
So what's next for the UN, to posthumously declare Adolph Hitler UN ambassador to Israel.
I guess for UN officials this just shows that if you spend enough time in a sewer, nobody's shit stinks.
Maybe because we have a United Nincompoop lawyer for a premier we can get travel discounts.
Swell!
Maybe a couple of Canadians with stong UN credentials like Steven Lewis or Alison Redford could shed a little light on the appointments?
just askin'.
Lets all remember this the next time some Liberal/NDPee apparatchik starts in telling us we need to do something because its a UN protocol or treaty.
If you want something to change, write letters, folks! Without your angry letters nothing will change.
One, two or 10 letters won't change anything but hundreds or thousands of angry letters make the bureaucrats move their butts.
Lawrence Cannon seems to genuinely believe that recognizing Kosovo was worth it because UN wanted to. Lots of crazy things was done because of that. Do we want to be a part of that???
It's a shame that Idi Amin is no longer with us. He would have been a natural for the position.
"I'm not so sure Sata is a bad guy."
I am. Anyone that casually uses the clunky term "capitalist roaders" and is popularly known as "King Cobra" is a very doubtful role model.
Add in his laudatory praise for Mugabe, and I think Kate and Michael Ross are justified in referring to him as a Mugabe "sidekick".
True, Sata is a Mussolini or even Franco compared to Mugabe's Stalin (I'll avoid a Godwinish Hitler comparison), but that's damning with faint praise.
Africa is a mess for many reasons, but Western and Chinese left-wing enablement of far-left dictators is certainly a part of the problem.

Dick Slater well said indeed!
Just don't forget Alberta. You vot6ed for one of these UN varmints.
The position title is utterly irrelevant, they needed the no-show job's foreign-exchange wages and expense account and their UN buddies came through for them. Thanks 'wealthy-nation' suckers!
So explain to me again, why Canada gives millions of dollars to the U.N.?
Wouldn't you just love to have them come to a city near you to promote international tourism.
I retired from the military years ago, and I have no fond memories of United Nations assignments. The liberal types always tout our United Nations involvement with our military. But in my experience it has always been a morale disaster for our troops. And the corruption, and outright evil policies we were forced to follow left me with a bad taste. We would have been better to follow the American example and not put our forces under UN mandate but commit our forces only under our own command. We do that now under NATO and our forces are much better for it. Screw the UN

I'm quite happy for the UN to seem as deranged as it really is.
Perhaps Mugabe can display the same magic for tourism as he did with sustainable development. The UN knows best.
" Mugabe’s record on sustainable economic development is unique. Few dictators have destroyed a country’s economy more quickly or more completely. Between 2000 and 2007, the national economy contracted by as much as 40 percent. "
" Mugabe takes over UN sustainable development body "

When are we going to withdraw from the UN? It's beyond a bad joke.
When the Whites still had control and it was called Rhodesia , it was the food basket of Africa. Political correctness turfed out the whites and now it's a basket case. Zimbabwe is another social experiment that has gone horribly wrong. Mugabe in not competent to run a hot dog stand much less a country. The UN is a lost cause and a prime example of the inmates taking over the whole asylum. Time to cut them loose. All of them. Background checks will prove they are all escapees from various mental institutions.
The UN gave peace (piece) prizes to Arafat ... Obozo and Al Gore ... they pretty well lost their last shred of credibility a LONG time ago.
Crazy?? You bet...............
OK .. that was the Nobel Committee ... who handed out the peace prizes .... but it's the same principle.
