Steven Chu is the mental basket case that wants to see the price of gas at $10. a gal. to save the planet. He sees Europe as a role model for the USA. The man represents everything that's wrong with Obama and his inner circle. One of his quotes:

The island states in the world represent - I remember this number - one-half of 1 percent of the carbon emissions in the world. And they will - some of them will disappear."

No matter how much evidence to the contrary, this mans mindset is stuck on stupid. A firm believer in bio-fuel and wind power. Anything that emits carbon is evil. Only Al Gore or Suzuki could do more damage to the economy in three short years than this twit.

When I saw the Avengers reference I couldn't quite figure out how Diana Rigg in black leather had anything to do with energy policy. As it turns out, the series name has been appropriated by a movie I'll never see.

Chu is a moron if he thinks we don't have clean energy. We do, and that happens to be nuclear power and hydroelectric power (using his definitions). Rather disturbing that he can't understand the concept of energy density which is key to providing cheap energy for an industrial civilization. Considering that CO2 levels are a red herring as far as climate change goes, burning coal efficiently qualifies as clean energy also.

This post by Chu reflects the "unicorn in every garage" mindset of the Obozo administration. Yes, it would be nice to have antimatter batteries that would last for the life of an automobile without needing replacement, but we don't have the technology yet. We're not going to get the technology ever if we keep concentrating on "green" energy using inefficient low energy density sources that were happily junked by their users as soon as a higher energy density source came along.

If we really want to be able to change the earth's climate, then we need to ramp up our energy production by several orders of magnitude. I'm curious about how Chu thinks we'll ever get off the planet using wind power, or is he expecting some form of magical solution to the problem.

So according to Chu, we should take inspiration from the Tesseract.

An device first discovered in WWII and initially used for warfare. That seems to provide near limitless energy from a hunk of material that fits in a briefcase.

Far as I can see is this freak is an integral componant to de-energise the world, by regulation, and put us back to a paleolithic (stone age) society.

What really worrying here is a Secretary of energy basing his hopes on a bad Hollywood movie.
Had some funny parts, but man it was all ham.
Turning science fiction into a real alternative is insane.
No wonder we are now stuck in a no growth, science poor World.Besides increasable regulations, any real science is pounced on by Corporate monopolists, or Environmental agencies.
Its why where stuck with effectually 60s tech. In everything but computers. Which is now being pummeled by these same organization with government beating the drum for regulations.
Now you have the heads of Government relying on fantasy solutions.

It's really sad to see a very intelligent man fail to realize his own limitations. Steven Chu, a man intelligent enough to have won a Nobel Prize in physics, joins Noam Chomsky (and others, I'm sure) in this. Actually, what he's done over the past three-plus years is worse than Chomsky. Chomsky assumed that because he was a genius at linguistics, his opinion on politics, warfare, etc., was worth more than other people's. Chu, as a physicist, must know the problems with "alternative" energy sources; he's just been corrupted by being made Secretary of Energy.
