Seriously.
Here's a passage from the biography of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd President, on the White House's official website:
You gotta laugh.
Foxes United Against Chicken-Wire:
SunNews has a 20 minute video with Ezra Levant explaining his problems with Amir Attaran's attitude about access to info requests. It's entertaining and informative. For those who may not be familiar with AA,he is the man who started the Afghan detainee hoax, which was used to bludgeon our soldier's reputations and condemn the Conservatives by association. The media and the opposition parties gleefully participated.
Ezra does not delve too deeply into Attaran's relationship with Mr. Ignatieff which goes back to their days together at Hahvard, maybe later, I hope. But he does raise some interesting questions about AA's expenses at the Uof0. AA is invoking the academic version of the cbc defense to keep them secret.
If you've got 20 minutes,watch it.

The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin on California Governor Jerry Brown's recent announcement that the state's projected $9b deficit is actually $16 billion:
The whole column here.
"When two white newspaper reporters for the Virginian-Pilot were driving through Norfolk, and were set upon and beaten by a mob of young blacks — beaten so badly that they had to take a week off from work — that might sound like news that should have been reported, at least by their own newspaper. But it wasn’t.
"The O’Reilly Factor on Fox News Channel was the first major television program to report this incident. Yet this story is not just a Norfolk story, either in what happened or in how the media and the authorities have tried to sweep it under the rug.
"Similar episodes of unprovoked violence by young black gangs against white people chosen at random on beaches, in shopping malls, or in other public places have occurred in Philadelphia, New York, Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Washington, Los Angeles, and other places across the country. Both the authorities and the media tend to try to sweep these episodes under the rug…"

Thanks for that, WallyJ. Twenty minutes well spent.
The Sun clip about Iggy's buddy and the media's complicity in the affair should anger all Canadians.
The story was based on one man's accusation, which was not backed up. The globe,Star,CTV,and other private organizations may be guilty of poor journalism and their followers can deal with that, but our beloved cbc has earned a very close look at their practices.
The 'detainee crisis' should not have been given the coverage that was devoted to it.
The cbc should have looked into the background of Attaran. The man was and is rabid anti-Harper. He is a hyphenated Canadian with links to Iran.BTW,his wikileaks page appears to have been scrubbed clean. They should have then demanded substantive evidence before deciding that this was 'news'.
Maybe they did,and went ahead anyways, which is much worse.
When it turned out that it was all BS,the cbc should have apologized to our troops, the Conservatives, and to Canadians. They did not. They buried the results of the inquiry. This is not responsible journalism. Someone, very high up, made these decisions.
The 'chicken/egg question arises:
Does the cbc print the news and then the Liberals react,or do the Liberals print their news and then the cbc reacts?
Amir Attaran's e-mails from his taxpayer-funded office could be very interesting, especially if the cbc and Liberals are involved in them. AA is very reluctant to release them,it will likely take a court order.
What kind of drugs are the PM and his cabinet smoking?
Apparently, emulating the American dream of jailing everyone who moves is now a Conservative policy.
This never voted anybody but Conservative has always loved the US and my party, but it's a little harder these days.
And let's face it, a trip to the US these days, with their laughable and scary "Justice" system,
is no laughing matter.

Just read the review of this CBC book.Looks like a gentle puff piece.
I think I'll pass.
A stopped clock is right at least twice a day, and the New York Times has published an op-ed less interesting for its warnings against Alexis Tsipras (fears of whom are mostly hysteria; he fancies himself Greece's Fidel Castro, but more likely he'll be its Salvador Allende) than for actually holding communists accountable for something:
After World War II, Nikos Zachariadis, the dynamic 43-year-old leader of the Greek Communist Party, eschewed the example of wiser Communist bosses like Palmiro Togliatti in Italy, who restrained his followers from armed rebellion even after an attempt on his life.
Mr. Zachariadis launched a brutal civil war in Greece that devastated the country as it was emerging from a harrowing Nazi occupation. Despite the futility of the conflict, enough Greeks followed Mr. Zachariadis to prolong the insurrection for four years. Not only did the conflict claim more than 50,000 lives and turn a tenth of the population into war refugees, but it also put Greece at least a decade behind Western Europe in beginning its post-war reconstruction.
The new pied piper of Hellas is Alexis Tsipras, 37, the leftist rabble rouser with keen political instincts and few scruples who led his radical left coalition, Syriza, to an astonishing second place finish in the May 6 election.
They go on to pin the blame for the leftist terror squarely on Tsipras:
Mr. Tsipras...is not averse to using every form of pressure and intimidation available to achieve his goals, as those who know Mr. Tsipras have testified...
Greek police officials say Syriza encouraged the violent demonstrations that have plagued Athens over the past two years. Unlike all other Greek political leaders.
(Stuff like this is why the Surete du Quebec and Pauline Marois need to have a little chat. I digress.)
Mr. Tsipras refused to condemn the extremist gangs that burned large swaths of Athens during those protests, even after one group set fire to a bank branch that killed three employees, including a pregnant woman.
Which is why half the police backed Golden Dawn and the others will fall into line the minute Tsipras tries to pay them in worthless drachmae. If Tsipras thinks he can command their loyalty for long he is even madder than he looks.
Salvador, your new cellmate is on his way.

This pompous United Nations bureaucrat trashes Canada - is then thoroughly taken to task by Sun News Brigitte Pellerin
Way to go Brigitte !! Never thought I would see the day when a Canadian news organization calls BS on the UN.
She mocks him, she rolls her eyes, she points out the UN's hypocrisy.

Thanks, Ken. Even if the one-half number is exaggerated (which is always possible), any honest reading of the numbers suggests a huge number of patriots in the Greek police who are unlikely to salute when Tsipras runs the hammer and sickle up the flagpole at Syntagma Park.
Related: Reuters (via the Post) has a profile of Tsipras, after reading which one could be forgiven for concluding that Pierre Trudeau pimped Margaret out to Fidel and had the pup abandoned at the Greek embassy.
After only three years in parliament, and with no background in finance or law, he would be far out of his depth around a table with the European Central Bank or the International Monetary Fund...
But to his supporters — whose number now reaches far beyond the confines of the radical left — he is a saviour...
Young Greeks sound almost giddy about Mr. Tsipras. A slogan batted around on the Internet takes advantage of the rhyme, "Come on Alexi for a Greece that’s sexy."
Alongside the policy proposals on his Facebook page — where his portrait with gelled hair, black shirt and pop-star scowl practically burns through the screen — are a riot of hearts, kisses and smiley faces posted by mostly female fans.
"I would marry you in a sec!!" one gushed.

"Book is opened on closed doors"
"The most secretive Canadian government in the last decade?
The Harper Conservatives, right?
After all, the consensus media has been railing against Prime Minister Stephen Harper since the days of Reform, accusing him of all sorts of covert action and of having a “hidden agenda” that will eventually bring an end to the Canada we know and love.
Well, if you too believe the Harper government is as surreptitious as they come, you’d also be dead wrong.
And wrong by a long shot.
The worst? The hiccup majority of Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin who loved “in camera” sessions, that’s who.
Second worst? Prime Minister Jean Chretien, of course, the Liberal leader who left Martin holding an odious bag.
The parliamentary press gallery’s apology to Harper is undoubtedly in the mail."

ron in kelowna, thanks for the SUN News clip. I especially checked it out because you wrote: “Sun News Brigitte Pellerin . . . mocks [the UN Rapporteur], she rolls her eyes, she points out the UN's hypocrisy.” That certainly happened. However, at the link you gave, the three SUN News folks were Krista Erickson, Jessica Murphy, and the wonderful John Robson, who did most of the mocking—with just the facts! (His sense of humour is the icing on the cake.)

"*It is becoming okay not to like Barack Obama."

"8. Richard Fernandez
Roger Simon has a piece titled, “Is Obama Imploding?”. He writes, “It is becoming okay not to like Barack Obama.”
That sudden change in atmosphere is what Malcolm Gladwell called the Tipping Point. And a number of indicators suggest that if we’re not there yet, then the roar of Niagra Falls, if hidden round the bend, is now audible to the paddlers in the canoe. I think the election of French Socialists and the collapse of Greek politics were clear signals that the chain of explosions had started.
Maybe you could argue that it went back further, possibly to the Arab Spring. Or 2008, with Lehman Brothers. Just perhaps you could name September 11, 2001 as the Day When It All Began.
But if the Day has begun it has by no means ended. What does reaching the Tipping Point mean? It means, I think, that nothing is now Too Big to Fail. Obama could be gone in months, a kind of lame duck rambling to himself. Or something else could happen. And that is the trouble, past the Tipping Point stuff happens really quickly."

"*Is Obama Imploding?"
"In The ESPN Man, the New York Times’ David Brooks wonders why Barack Obama remains personally popular despite the horrendous economy.
The key is his post-boomer leadership style. Critics are always saying that Obama is too cool and detached, arrogant and aloof. But the secret to his popularity through hard times is that he is not melodramatic, sensitive, vulnerable and changeable. Instead, he is self-disciplined, traditional and a bit formal.
I think Brooks is behind the curve here and Obama is about to implode. The signs are everywhere, including the just released North Carolina poll showing Romney in the lead by eight percent in a state Obama won narrowly in 2008.
Other indications of incipient implosion that Brooks appears to have missed or ignored are the swing to Romney among women voters in the latest NYT/CBS poll and the overwhelming public sentiment that Obama’s new stance on same-sex marriage was politically motivated."
