It is quite easy to imagine the uproar in the MSM (and by the DemocRats, but I repeat myself) if W or any other leading Repub in the previous U.S. Administration, especially during an election year, had made utterances such as described.   When Obama does it?   Crickets...

I don't think this was an accidental display of Obambam's lack of brain power. (not that he has any) It just that Obambam's string pullers have never forgiven the Poles for leaving the Marxist reservation years ago.

Geographically correct, the camp was in Poland. The Poles weren't complicite, in any meaningful way. Most of the guards were Ukranian Waffen SS. I doubt this will hurt Obama in the least. Americans have a pretty dim view of Europe, at the best of times. The fact some Polish people are criticizing him might actually garner some support, at home. Be patient. Obama has a few months left to make a gaffe, that will really piss off American voters.

I await the announcement that BO has appointed Marion Barry (Pollacks infesting DC) as the new US ambassador to Poland, just to complete his demonstration of disdain. Missle defence, golfing instead of going to the state funeral, death camps....

Eastern Europe's treatment of Jews prior to WWII and even WWI has a history none should be proud of. Yes, the Germans were the most vicious and efficient but complicity existed in every country. Poles were no exception. Jewish partisans in Poland were turned in by other Poles. Not to single out the Poles it happened everywhere.

coach @9:49am - you have no idea what you are talking about. For starters, there were multiple concentration camps (not just a "camp" as you mention) in the Polish territory under the German occupation - main ones were Auschwitz, Majdanek, Treblinka or Sobibor. There were of course many others, but in those places most extermination camp casualties had taken place. Your claim that Ukrainian Waffen SS were primarily guarding those places is ridiculous to say the least. There were some odd Ukrainians being trained for this duty at the Trawniki camp, but they were never fully trusted by the Germans and there were very few and definitely not from Ukrainian Waffen SS. So it was Germans who were primarily responsible for all the death toll in concentration camps.

Unfortunately Obozo is not the first politician to publicly say such stupid phrase. As a Pole it really gets under my skin each time I hear it. It is just another big blunder by the amateur in the White House. It is just so friggin' sad MSM, as usual, chooses to sweep it under the carpet. Just imagine if a Republican presidential candidate had uttered that in the election year!

With Obama record it wouldn't be far fetched that the offensive comment has been designed to stir some ethnic tensions in Chicago.

Just to add a point here. Chicago used to have the biggest Polish population in the world outside of Warsaw. He just might have insulted a big part of the Chicago voting base.

It may be that Poles did not treat well all Jews, however many Jews were communists and communists did invade Poland in 1939, couple of days after Germans invaded Poland. Nevertheless many Poles helped Jews even though Germans introduced a rule that any Pole who helped Jews will be immediately executed.
As a matter of fact in no other country in Europe there was similar rule.

Evidence that the western allies deliberately suppressed starting in 1943. Which is why it came as something of a surprise to Allied soldiers occupying the places during 1945.

There was no Ukrainian Waffen SS" Division. There was a "Galician SS" division, which used the traditional Ukrainian 'Trezub' symbol on the collar tabs. They were mostly from Ukraine, and ethnic ukrainians from Poland. Himmler did not want them identified as 'Ukrainian' because he did not want any suggestion that Ukraine was recognized as a nation.

The International SS divisions were trained primarily as Infantry, unless they brought military experience with them from their homelands. Members of the French SS had their citizenship stripped after the war, and could only get it back by serving a 7 year term with the French Foriegn Legion. (Many died in Vietnam at Dien Ben Puh - sorry for the spelling)

Members of the Galician SS who were captured by Americans at the end of the war were turned over to the Russians, who summarily executed them almost immedietely. Those captured by other western allies recognized them as refugees, and most of those spent the rest of their lives in the west.

Obama himself is historically illiterate and wouldn't recognize such a misstatement. I strongly suspect he has only a cursory knowledge of the events of the war, of the Third Reich, of the Jewish reality during the war.

This, despite yet another enormous gaffe, when he declared to some Jewish leaders this week that he 'knew more about Judaism than any other president'. This is known as a 'shifting the burden of proof', a particular 'ad ignorantiam' fallacy. After all, what do we or his listeners know about the Judaic knowledge base of all US presidents?

This personal denigration of the US moves him to deliberately, on his own, disable and weaken the individual American's capacity to 'be American'...that is, to be entrepreneurial, to profit, to be intelligent, curious, questioning.

Instead, Obama's pathological need to control others makes him seek to weaken and render the average American dependent on the State (aka Obama's GoodWill), dependent on government, and to disable the laws that strengthen individual freedoms in the US.

You are right. However the problem is that "no love for Obama" morphed into "no love for US or americans" or even "dislike for US/americans". And propaganda from Brussels also does not help.

coach, I'd like to see a reference to your assertion that Ukrainian Waffen SS were used as concentration camp guards. The Waffen SS was used for fighting other troops and concentration camp guards were not noted for their military prowness. Perhaps you're mistaking the Bosnian islamic SS troops for the Ukrainians as the Bosnians seemed to be most effective against unarmed women and children.

Many nationalist Ukrainians in western Ukraine joined the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) which fought both the Russians and Germans. They were finally driven out of Ukraine by Kruschev in 1946 and many of them left through the western borders of Ukraine.

Given the treatment of Ukrainians by the Russian communists, it's no surprise that many would have joined with the Germans given their recent memories of the Russian caused holodomor. One of Hitler's stupidities was to consider Ukrainians to be untermenschen and thus a potential significant ally was turned into an adversary.

There's obviously a dislike of Obozo for Poland as it represents one of the most successful capitalist countries in europe today. Was out for some beers with a Polish colleague last week and he's convinced that death of the Polish president in Smolensk a few years back was clearly as a result of the Russians trying to control Poland. I don't think Poles are going to take kindly to the rantings of a brainless TOTUS.
