The Brock university study is obviously nonsense. I'll bet it was funded by a research grant! It's easy to select two variables, in this case, a test of intelligence and a survey of political ideology, and try to correlate them as causal.

The old axiom of 'correlation does not equal causation' seems to have been ignored. But furthermore, by making such a correlation, they are moving into a hypothesis, as others have noted, that declares that the left political ideology of socialism is superior to the right political ideology of capitalism.

Now, that requires more proof than a false link between intelligence and political support.

The assumptions the Brock academics make are so funny. Study Question: 'I wouldn't mind if a family of a different race moved next door.' I want to know the ethnic composition of the neighborhoods these profs live in. Question: 'Schools should teach children to obey authority.' Well, are we talking about table manners and not swearing at the teacher, or are we talking about actually engaging with ideas? But, as we all understand, lefties aren't authoritarian the way conservatives are. I've always noticed that about them.

I think the idea of a vast, mothering, omnipresent government makes certain people feel safe. This has got less to do with intelligence than it does with personality type; it's why women vote lefty in such tragically high numbers. You'd have to be a sociologist pretty divorced from reality (but I repeat) to deny that men are more adventurous than women. Men are also more right wing. I always have a chuckle whenever I read articles like this. It's obviously done so that leftists/liberals feel as superior as they can to anyone who is not them. After all, a scientist quantified it. However, the second this "study" comes under scrutiny, this "study" and others like it disappear.

If social and fiscal conservatives are such anti-social morons, why is it that they have more intact relationships/families and can hold down a real job much better than their liberal counterparts? If there were no government jobs for these liberal "betters", would they still find work? Is conservatism a universal term?

Why answer these questions when smugness based on erroneous assumptions says it all?

As other have pointed out the correlation = causation fallacy, I won't go there.

We have a very easy means of testing the researchers conclusions by looking south. Mean black IQ = 85, mean white IQ = 100. Thus, it should be self-evident that US blacks should be overwhelmingly "right wing" and racist. 95% of US blacks voted for Obozo. They are, however, very racist.

Back to the drawing board, or as is the case in academia today, time to get another grant to study anomalous findings generated by previous research.

The survey is selecting for authoritarian personality traits which have minimal correlation with political views. From my experience, the more "progressive" people claim to be, the more authoritarian they are.

Many conservatives were liberal lefties when young. See, some liberals are so smart they become conservatives.
