I don't think they saw this one coming;
Forty-three Catholic dioceses and organizations across the country have announced religious liberty lawsuits against the federal government to challenge the Obama administration’s contraception mandate.
[...]
Several Catholic universities around the country also joined in the lawsuits, including The Catholic University of America, the University of Notre Dame and Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Notre Dame president Fr. John Jenkins, C.S.C., said the lawsuit was filed “neither lightly nor gladly, but with sober determination.”
“We do not seek to impose our religious beliefs on others,” he explained in an email to Notre Dame employees.
Rather, he explained, “we simply ask that the Government not impose its values on the University when those values conflict with our religious teachings.”
Related - I confess that not in my wildest dreams did I imagine President Obama’s campaign would be so awful.

Obama can kill his own babies, but demanding that Catholics kill their own babies is over the line.
Catholics with cahones...human fecundity on trial.
Put that in your gay marriage, contraceptive abortifacient mandate....
The Obama-Nation(tm) has got a hate on with procreative aspect of sexuality.
And now hailing from the Far Side we bring you 7 billion ways to avoid children...these comedians are so lazy they would marry a pregnant woman because they haven't the energy or the courage.
"We cannot fashion our children after our desires, we must have them and love them as God has given them to us."

Thus the Obama-Nation(tm) would be the "anti-Churchill" given that he sent Churchill's 'bust' back to Britain.

Watching Fox News just now they reported that of the 3 networks, CBS hat a 19s item, while ABC and NBC IGNORED the story. They did not compare time given to Sandra Fluke.
At The Media Research Centre:
“TV Networks Deliberately Censor Biggest Religious Lawsuit In History Against U.S. Gov't
“Bozell: ‘In 25 years I have not seen a more blatant example of bias by omission to protect a leftist agenda’
“Alexandria, VA – The evening news broadcasts all but spiked the largest legal action in history to defend our Constitutionally-protected religious freedom, according to a new Media Research Center analysis.
“ABC’s World News and NBC’s Nightly News refused to report news of the 43 Catholic dioceses and organizations suing the Obama administration. What could have been more newsworthy than this? NBCNightly News devoted an entire story to a lunar eclipse; ABC led their evening broadcast and devoted an incredible three minutes and 30 seconds to the sentencing of the Rutgers student who spied on his gay roommate with a web camera.
“CBS Evening News gave this historic news ... 19 seconds. . . .”
So, what else is new?
BRAVO to the Roman Catholic Church in the USA for taking on the Democrat/liberal culture of death—finally!
The Oblamer campaign is becoming hysterical.
Reminds me of a snake striking at anything and everything,
even the MSM clowns that support him.
They thought their messiahs re-election would be a lock.
Now they realize their empty suit with no emperors clothes has nothing but attack ads to run.
It is like eating popcorn and watching for the next Pink Panther movie goof.

Intelligent DemocRats have been worried ever since Hillary lost the nomination in 2007. By 2011 they were flat-out scared, and whipped up the OWS farce to try and get some traction.
Now they're flatly terrified. They know that light they see in the darkness ain't the light of a brand new day at the end of the tunnel. Its a train.
I keep telling you guys, random normal people are bursting out in public places spontaneously with Obama bashing all over the USA, and everybody in the place says "AMEN!". That ain't normal.
Good for them, I hope they win, because they are 100% in the right. Although Hans, I'm not sure what this has to do with gay-marriage or why you had to even bring it up.
The 'present' President does not like Alaska, he has decided to give "Seward's Folly" back to The 'Czars' in Russia:
http://www.wnd.com/2012/02/obamas-giveaway-oil-rich-islands-to-russia/
For maximum loss of dignity, I hope they continue suing Obama after he has left office.
Jema, what you linked was just unbelievable. That man stuns the mind of the sane.
@ Steven Burton:
Gay 'marriage' is just another way to avoid children...as homosexuality among humans is another venue to circumvent human fecundity.
In short, it's part of the panoply on the road to planned barrenhood.
So far the incidence of human hermaphrodites isn't of such a magnitude that they would want to contracept hermaphrodites as well...but given enough time they will get around to it.
Maybe they will call it the 'Hermaphrodite Mandate' which should make a good 'sci-fi Hollywierdo' movie...

His biggest qualification in 2008 was that he ran a campaign for president. Turns out he can't even do that right.
I find it somehow ironic that the US election is likely to evict an extremely incompetent CEO and replace him with a vulture capitalist. I wonder which parts Mitt is going to sell off to lessen the debt load. Alaska? Hawaii?
"Gay 'marriage' is just another way to avoid children...as homosexuality among humans is another venue to circumvent human fecundity.

Seriously? gay marriage is being pushed somehow because it'll help lead to humans not having children. Are you talking about homosexuality or gays getting married, because gays are just as infertile unmarried, so I guess I just don't get what you are trying to say. I have however heard of many gay couples seeking surrogates and trying to adopt. I myself don't see where I had a choice in the matter of being gay, and it might surprise you but I want and will have kids.
I did however not your use of ' and ' around the word marriage, which as usual just leads me to believe it's all fighting over the definition of a word - many of which have multiple definitions. I'll say it before and I'll say it again, God can sort the real marriages from the fake marriages, or sorry 'marriages'.
the sad part is that it doesn't even matter what kind of campaign 'bama runs...the media will report on it as a triumph of ingenuity...
and even sadder than that is the fact that no matter how the votes go into the box on election day, when they come out to be counted 'bama will be the winner...just like every other socialist 'election' in china..the ussr...or as in iran...
there's even a good chance that there'll be more votes cast than voters in some districts...the dead aren't on the list but they still get to vote...and vote...and vote.
I'm all for religious freedom, but the cycle of unwanted children being born into unfit homes is a serious problem. There are so many children who are destined to be deadbeats right from the get-go.
Aside from that, I can state for a fact that no one is going to hell for indirectly providing birth control to people who need it.

So you are cheering on the Catholics against the Obama-Nation(tm)'s contraceptive/abortifacient mandate; but are completely oblivious of Catholic teaching on homosexuality?
Welcome aboard, but I don't think the gay marriage mandate is part of Catholic teaching either, as it relates to the 1st amendment rights. But then Obama only recently revealed his intention in this regard...
Cheers

Phantom, I agree with you. They have reason to be scared. The President has utterly nothing to show for his four years in office, either domestic or foreign policy. How can they possibly run on achievements when they don't have any? They can't even blame Congress, because up to the end of 2010 they had a super-majority in both Houses and they STILL couldn't get anything useful done.
What bothers me in all this is the polls. They still seem to be showing at best a dead heat for the Republicans. To me that means only one of two things: 1. either the polls are deliberately warped in their reflection of US voting intentions, or 2. the average American voter, particularly those on the left, really are well and truly stupid.
With the worst economic performance since Herbert Hoover, why is this dillhole still even in contention?
"So you are cheering on the Catholics against the Obama-Nation(tm)'s contraceptive/abortifacient mandate; but are completely oblivious of Catholic teaching on homosexuality?"
What does one have to do with the other? I support Catholics not being forced to do things that go against their religious freedom. I support Catholics teaching whatever they want. I support the constitution. I support freedom.
I believe that if we all don't support each other's freedoms as we give them away one by one that all of us are going to lose all of our freedoms.
And I like to think I see the big picture - I don't think excluding an entire group of people (some gays) just to appease another group of people (some religious people) is going to help anyone in the long run. I think it turns many possible registered republicans into independents and independents into democrats. In effect I believe it shifts the electorate to the left over a stupid word.
I believe that, on the whole, the electorate is fairly uneducated and easily led by buzz words, and as such it's easy to paint the republicans as "evil" because of certain positions.
I believe we are alienating large portions of youth, as demographically by age homosexuality is much more accepted by the youth than by the elderly.
I think in the long run being anti gay-marriage leads to more Democrat/Liberal wins and therefore more Democrat/Liberal destruction on everyone's rights - as an example let's say Catholics being forced to pay for employee's birth control.
"I don't think the gay marriage mandate is part of Catholic teaching either, as it relates to the 1st amendment rights"
Again I don't see what one has to do with the other. I don't want to force any churches to marry gays. Gays can get married in Canada but nobody is forcing Catholic priests to perform these marriages. And I believe Stephen Harper is smart to avoid the gay marriage issue 100% because it's over here and should stay over.
Joe - It's either that or else it is Obama giving Texas and California (throw in New Mexico) back to whom they took it from. (Manifest Destiny and all that). Maybe by then he'll know the difference not just between the Maldives and the Malvinas, but the Malvinas and the Falklands.
The White House and its allies like to characterize all problems as “communication”miscues (that, we were told, was why Obamacare never became popular). But in fact Obama’s failings are substantive. And given the policy failings, it is no wonder the communication falters. It turns out it is a lot harder than many of us imagined to run for reelection with a record you can’t defend
What we have here is a failure to communicate.
cgh
I wouldn't be at all surprised if half or more of the polling agencies were as complicit as MSNBC or ABC in distorting facts and issues in support of an Obama reelection. I never put too much stock in polls - who are these people who answer their landlines and respond to polls? Not regular Joes I don't imagine. I mean think about it - a lot better chance of reaching an unemployed Obama supporter at home than a hard working Republican.
Steven Burton - Catholic priests are not forced to perform gay marriages - yet! I, as a Catholic will be forced to accept the legality and legitimacy, legal and moral, of gay marriage. Hard to do without being fined for expressing overtly or quietly my religious stance on the matter.
Well, no, Andrew, you can't state that for a fact.
There should be no compulsion to "marry" homosexuals or redefine marriage.
Obama gambled that he could bully or hoodwink not just any group but Catholics. He lost.
Moving on....
"yet!"
Why would it ever happen? Who's fighting for that? Should it ever come to fruition you can expect me on your side shouting it down! But I think it's more about the right to get married and the legal rights that come with it, and very little to do with the Catholic Church. Sorry you're personally offended.
"I, as a Catholic will be forced to accept the legality and legitimacy, legal and moral, of gay marriage."
As a Canadian you will, as a Catholic it doesn't affect you. Morals are a personal thing. Laws are government's domain and a legal marriage isn't a religious marriage in the eyes of God. 2 separate definitions - just remember which marriage you're talking about and you should be okay.
"fined for expressing..."
The Tribunals have to go!!! But that's also separate from gay marriage.
Steven - The Tribunals have to go! Agreed, so could you spread that word around the gay community because they seem to be one of the main sources of their support, and visa-versa! And should a family member of mine decide to marry, he may get my congrats, by mail, and perhaps a toaster, but not my presence at a ritual of godless political utility. That said, I think he is too wise to do so, and that he is in the majority of gay thinking on this matter. That said, the rise of gay divorce will give new meaning to its ugliness.
There is no gay community - that's another invention of the media. So sorry, can't help ya.
Not sure what the rise of gay divorce proves about anything. From none to any number will probably seem crazy with it's infinity percent rise (just kidding). Seriously though, since you brought it up, what does the rise of straight divorce give new meaning to? It went up quite a bit last century. I suspect it means nothing - true marriages based on love and shared adversity/triumph last. Other marriages tend to fail. People are people - most gays aren't different from anyone else.
"Morals are a personal thing."
Sure they are.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Steven Burton very strongly identifies as a libertarian. Why radical libertarians should want the state to sanction any interpersonal relationship is more than I've ever understood, but there you go.
Anyone who thinks churches in Canada won't be forced to perform gay marriages is a fool. All it will take is a lipdipper government.
I myself don't see where I had a choice in the matter of being gay, and it might surprise you but I want and will have kids.
Uhh, you realize that involves a woman? Ohhh, you mean you want to use a woman to produce a child?
James nails it. This will happen as sure as the sun rises the next time there is a lipdipper government. The treatment of Saskatchewan's marriage commissioners is a precedent.
The next thing you know, they will be coming out with a vaccine that turns a normal fetus into a hermaphrodite. The perfect platform for the "new man".
Update-
President Obama won both his primaries Tuesday, but faced fairly tight races -- facing minor challengers -- or no challengers at all.
In Kentucky's closed primary, the president won with 58 percent of the vote, as 42 percent of voters chose "uncommitted."
In Arkansas, with 89 percent of precincts reporting, Obama won 59 percent versus 41 percent for John Wolfe, an attorney from Tennessee.
West Virginia gave a Texas prison inmate nearly 40 percent of the vote.
-
I guess all that Democrat 'leg tingling' is gone..
"Uhh, you realize that involves a woman? Ohhh, you mean you want to use a woman to produce a child?"
Uh no, you trying to "use" women to make your point? Is it "using" women when someone adopts? Get a clue.
"Why radical libertarians should want the state to sanction any interpersonal relationship is more than I've ever understood, but there you go."
Sure if we were creating a new country from scratch, but we're not. There are many legal benefits that come with marriage that I would like to share with my partner. I think it's just easier this way. And I don't think it harms anyone.
Ken (Kulak)
Saskatchewan marriage commissioners work for the province, not churches and they perform legal marriages, not church weddings before God. 2 different definitions of the word marriage. If your personal beliefs are interfering with your job, or vice versa, than quit. Might not sound fair, but you have that option. The situation is still very far removed from forcing churches to perform marriages.
I don't want to argue the piddly little points. I don't expect to convince anyone here to change their personal beliefs.
I just honestly believe with all my heart that we have to pick our battles and that this battle isn't worth fighting. Like I said above, I believe it alienates a large portion of the electorate and that we're losing the youth in droves. I believe in the long run by fighting this one we're going to lose so many much more important battles regarding economic issues, and that by allowing the democrats to use this against us, they will win more elections, and consequently we all lose more rights.
Gay marriage, while important to me personally, has never been important enough for me to vote Liberal or NDP, because there have always been much more important issues to the survival of the west. That's why I am here reading this site, and agreeing with most of it. I realized that gay marriage was unimportant in the grand scheme of things, and I hope you all do too, because we have way bigger fish to fry together!
Is it "using" women when someone adopts?
Who will be the child's mother?
"Who will be the child's mother? "
Nosey...Well, Patrick does tend to do much more cleaning and cooking than I do, but at the same time he fishes more than I do. I do all the driving, but.... Not sure who's the woman in this one, oh wait nobody! Oh btw how is a woman getting "used" when she puts her child up for adoption? I believe you were trying to answer that but instead started asking me really personal questions...
What if the child wants a mother? What if the child needs a mother?
One other point Steven - Already in this country, Catholic Schools are being forced to organize GSA's (I believe they're called)even though such social engineering is offensive to most parochial and other private schools. The argument of course, is that parochial schools receive public monies. And I am forced by law to support the public schools. Hows about I be allowed to direct all my education taxes to Catholic schools, and you can send all your ed. taxes to the public system that you seem so enamoured of? What we need is a legal challenge like that being organized by Catholic institutions in the U.S., against Obama's unconstitutional directives on birth control initiatives.
Steve said: "I realized that gay marriage was unimportant in the grand scheme of things, and I hope you all do too, because we have way bigger fish to fry together!"
I always get a chuckle out of this argument. If it's such an unimportant issue, why don't we just leave it the way it's been for thousands of years?
Oh, I see. It only becomes unimportant AFTER it's been changed to the way you like it.
Wow. I've never seen so many people gang up on one before. Bravo to Steve for enduring 40 comments worth of logical fallacies and ignorance.
Woah, I went to work for 10 hours and came back to find I'm 'obviously enamoured' of the public school system?!? lmao news to me. I don't think any school religious or non religious should be teaching gay/straight/sex anything! That's for parents (maybe television and the Internet lol j/k). I think all schools should teach maths and sciences and computers and communications. Maybe finances as well - that might have helped me in my younger years lol. Religion and politics and everything else should remain at home or at church.
And in the VERY SAME post Atilla is referencing I told you how I didn't fight *for* gay marriage - I voted Conservative for about a decade now. It was LESS important for me than all the economic crap going on and the fundamental removal of rights, and it should be LESS important for you as well. I think it's like cutting off our collective conservative noses to spite our collective conservative faces.
