A monumental waste of money, like most things that government at any level involves itself in. What I don't understand is why newer longer cars were required. What's wrong with newer shorter cars and more of them ?
It reminds me, though I hate thinking about it -- more, I hate seeing it -- of the Mars Attacks addition to the Royal Ontario Museum which absolutely demonstrates form over function and nepotistic idiocy. Stephen Lewis's brother-in-law, Daniel Libeskind designed it -- and, no doubt, made a bundle off the project.
At first sight I assumed it was the Moscow underground since it's reputed to be a spectacular example of art deco (which I love)mixed with necessarily subtle anti-communist themes.
peterj, yeah, I didn't get the long cars thing either.
I've sent this along to my uber-liberal daughter and son-in-law who live in NYC, as a sugar-coated economics lesson. I expect it to have about as much traction as my un-sugar-coated outings.
It's a toss up on the area in which I'm weakest: biblical* quotes or pop culture references, so:
Blushing in advance, what the hell is Honey I Finished the Internet? It's related to a MOVIE, right?
* I'm just starting Proverbs in the OT. Tough slog. I gotta do Hollywood next?
There is an unused station in the Toronto system as well. I got to see it a few years back when I worked in the system. It too has been used for various movie scenes.
there is an unused subway station under city hall in Calgary , really cool considering Calgary's tracks run above ground. you can see it when you go under the 9th avenue tunnel and look back to the NW while heading south.
all this art reminds me that alderman Duh Farrell insists on adding art as a percentage of cost overuns as well.
Why this blog? Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice
of an ordinary Canadian
yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

mailserver in Europe)
I can't answer or use every
tip, but all are
appreciated!

That is art! Perhaps it's just as well that its not open to the public, todays young vandals would have it destroyed within a couple of months.
That's actually pretty cool (except for the graffiti).
A monuement to form over function...
The graffiti art is also pretty cool. It's actually art not vandalism.
Yes. Art for the sake of art...unused tunnel...

do they harbor any electric cars in there?????
Uh, this station is known to fans of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", as it was featured in the second live-action movie.
Cool.
I thought it was the set of a fantasy movie.

"what the hell is Honey I Finished the Internet?"
I believe it goes back to when Al Gore made a claim he invented the internet. Needless to say, like the man himself, it's a joke.

Not as pretty as NY's, but it was used for "Johnny Mnemonic" and a number of other film shoots.
I think its grand. Proto-Art Deco. Preserved in stone.
That would make fine location for a club or retail space. Or MY secret lair.....
Not the same as the Superman movie....is it?
